hey guys dont know if somebody made a topic about this before, but could someone tell me what happened to the covenant after halo3? didnt read all books and im just wondering if they will return
the only thing i know is that the H-C-War is over know and Humans and the covenant are friends know but what happened to the covenant after this? thanks
prophets are going extinct
brutes are going extinct
grunts, jackals, are going to their home world and in a post-apocalyptic disarray
elites are returning to their home world
humans are returning to earth and untouched colonies
> the only thing i know is that the H-C-War is over know
“Officially”, yes. The killing has stopped - largely (It is implied that some folk have not got the message due to a comms blackout)- and whatnot, but all that covers up the fact that no one (especially the Covenant races like the Elites) really wants to stop killing each other is a superfluous, shallow and totally pointless “peace treaty” that only means something to two people, Arbiter and Hood, I don’t think the war is actually over in spirit. I doubt it ever will.

The Prophets lead the Brutes in a vicious campaign against the Elites until 2559. They disappear after this, abandoning the Brutes. Without that leadership, the Brutes collapse into inter-species warfare. The Elites cannot maintain their technology or civilization in general as the Prophets administered all of that. So their civilization is in danger of rapidly slumping back into the stone ages. The Jackals go back to doing what they have always done - Pirating, smuggling and chasing a profit; living their own lives basically. They were the least integrated into the Covenant out of all the races. They were more like Mercenaries. The Engineers have completely vanished without a trace. It was guessed that the Prophets took the remaining ones after the Great Schism. The different Covenant factions, and ONI, are fighting over the few remaining ones like there is no tomorrow. And Humans and Covenant are not friends. Not by a long shot.

I havent read the book in forever, but there is a divide in the elites, where half(roughly) are with the arbiter and the other half is plotting his assassination because they still want to fight the humans
By the time Halo 7, 8, and 9 roll around, the Prophets are likely going to want to lay some old school, biblical style vengeance at humanity’s door on account of us, you know… ruining their whole pyramid scheme, “invest in us and we’ll take you to paradise” deal; and I look forward to snapping their skinny necks in retaliation.
Prophets basically disappeared. The few of them left ran away to some place.
Brutes were forced back onto their homeworld, ones that tried to fight back were killed by Elites, and ones willing became servants.
Grunts are back on their homeworld enjoying the peace.
Jackals still roam the Galaxy hording technology and the like. They are annoying and steal from Elties and Humans pirate-style.
Drones likely returned to their alpha-hives.
Engineers seemed to disappear entirely, the Prophets took most of them when they disappeared, and none were seen since, until Glasslands.
Hunters are probably still friendly to the Elites, but haven’t seen much of them.
Elites are stuck on their homeworld with no technology trying to figure out how to survive. But ONI is plotting to cause an Elite Civil War to keep them down long enough for Humanity to rebuild, and eventually wipe them out entirely (yeah, the humans are being -Yoinks!-, I’m not surprised)
Humanity is growing more rapidly than any other force in the galaxy, and will be in full control before long.
Prophets:
Retreated deep into unknown space. They’ve always had some population issues (partly thanks to Forerunner intervention if I remember right) and their numbers are close to extinction.
Brutes:
Probably “remained the Covenant” for a while but started fighting their clan wars again. Murdering each other.
On top of that: Elites are commiting massive genocide against them.
Jackals:
Probably went back to their normal life of space pirating. Something the books have always said was their #1 wish.
Grunts:
Who knows? I bet most of them are enjoying not being bossed around and used as bulletsponges anymore, sippin’ on some food -Yoink!-. Others might still be hanging out with the other factions however.
Hunters:
Unknown. Like so much about them.
Drones:
Unknown. But given their treatment by the Covenant I think it’s safe to say they went the route the Grunts also probably took.
Elites:
Have come to a religious limbo of sorts. Arbiter trying to hold everything together while other clans are rooting for delivering a final blow to Humanity. Are busy trying to refind some reason for their beliefs (in The Return for instance) and are enjoying themselves killing some Brutes. Oh: and they’re in desperate need to knowledge on Forerunner/Covenant technology because they’re losing ships fast.
That’s it in a nutshell.
I personally fully expect the Prophets to return with a plot to align with our new enemies to get their revenge on Humanity and the Elites. Elites will probably join our sides, but will probably come with some struggle.
The rest of the races: I doubt we’ll see them back en masse. Maybe some remnants that still align themselves with some of the sides (Covenant or Seperatists) but I think the major Covenant book can be closed for good.
> Humanity is growing more rapidly than any other force in the galaxy, and will be in full control before long.
I highly doubt that. Let’s not forget that humanity suffered a great deal at the hands of the Covenant, and even though we can be thought of as having “won” the war, victory came at a significant cost, and–as in any war–it’s going to take some time for forces on both sides of the conflict to rebuild.

Recover time is probably quicker, seeing how this is the distant future. I think halo 4 will show us coming out stronger than ever.
The leadership, Prophets, were almost completely wiped out when the Flood invaded High Charity. Any survivors would likely be going into hiding, and the species itself is probably nearing extinction.
The Elites broke away during the Great Schism. They went back to Sanghelious to relearn their old ways before the Covenant, where they are split. Some favor the humans and some still hate them. It seems that some small wars or battles between these sides will happen sometime.
The Brutes are fighting themselves, like old times, some are fighting Elites, and some are being used by Elites on Sanghelious.
Jackals are pirates, scavenging weapons and ships for their own needs.
Grunts were most likely returned to their homeworld.
Drones were most likely returned to their homeworld, or are being used in place of Engineers.
Covenant Engineers dissapeared, some believe the Prophets took them.
Wouldn’t this be a better question for the Universe forum?
The Covenant is in shambles with a lot if in-fighting; only the Arbiter’s crew is openly supporting us, not all Elites are thrilled to be allies with their previously sworn enemies.
