In the fiction how are the brutes written out of it?
There’s still some degree of conflict for a few years after halo 3. There’s also a group lead by a brute named Lydus who is attempting to broker peace with the elites for his faction. The peace talks got attacked, so I’m not sure how that went after.
There is a cult started by brutes on a few human planets and converting Humans into their beliefs of the One light. A alternate belief of that of the Covenant. It’s all in Halo: Last Light. You should really read it
So, at this point they are just a couple random packs and thats it?

There’s likely far more to it. There just hasn’t been much central focus to them at this time since the narrative has been focused on how the Elites and Humanity have been faring post-war more than anything. The short story “The Return” seems to at least indicate that there’s still a relatively sizable slice of Brutes still actively waging war against the Elites. But again, the exact size of this conflict in relation to the greater Brute population just hasn’t been mentioned or covered yet.
I wish they would show up in h5 but I doubt it.
