I agree. I’ve always wondered why we cant just choose the design and color of each piece of armor. That would look so badass! I hope that they do that with the next-gen consoles.

An option to control the under armor colors would have been awesome! It would allow for more customization and make the armor pieces bolder.
Also we need some bolder colors as well, the current pastel has been washed out too much.
Being a Gunpla fan I understand better than most how much colour separation changes our perception of things.
I honestly don’t understand why on earth the black under suits were removed but it’s one of the few things I feel is wrong with this game, visually at least.

Rainbow Six Vegas did that six years ago (plus custom camo patterns and it was great!) It wouldn’t take a new console, just a more ambitious development strategy than to just one-up the last thing we/Bungie did.
This was something that bugged me in the very first pics that were released and I always hoped it was due to betas and that and it would be changed.
I can see that some may like this change but most seem to not. So I’m going to go for hoping to see an option appear in the update to choose the colour… even if it is just either black or your primary or secondary colour choice. If not the TU… which would be unlikely anyway, but in the next game.
I miss the all black under armor, it made spartans look way better. Now they kind of look like action figures rather than soldiers. It’s not something that bothers me too much but I hope they change it back.

It would make sense, we are able to choose three colors for our symbol but only 2 for our armor when we should have the option to choose the color of the body suit.
I like Halo 4’s armor (sorta), but this would have made it sooo much better-- it makes each individual piece of armor actually stand out.
I actually think we should get an option in Halo 5 of changing the color of the undersuit-- just barely. Not so much changing its color (it would always stay dark), but adding just a shade of a certain color, still dark enough to make the armor pieces look good on their own.
And someone mentioned this earlier, but I think the colors are a little too weird. They must have looked at Reach and then went overboard in trying to fix it. Halo Reach had very dark colors, and Halo 4 has… well, a rainbow.
The colour changes are for Spartan-IV uniformity under the UNCS Spartan-IV colour scheme protocole. Since all of us are technically on a Fire Team we are suppose to match one another whist still being identifiable. The black under-armour (even if it looks better) would be to individualized and would make us look like we aren’t part of the same program.

Possible, as Palmer has the all black under suit/armour as well as the other Spartans we see in the campaign. Majestic team does not have this they have a black and blue under suit.
However if this was the reason behind the design choice. It is pretty lame as we are meant to be on Crimson and don’t see any others and I would have thought from a game design point of view you would want the characters/player models to look the best they can.
In this pic it looks like Bungie did prototype having three colours in the early days of Halo 2. The elite with blue and dark green armour with a red under suit.
