I haven’t played the Halo Wars titles, last Halo story I played was Halo 5. I know the Banished are the antagonists of Halo Wars 2 and they seem to be following that storyline…But what happened to the whole Cortana, Warden and AI rebellion storyline?

I think we’re all curious about that. The gameplay trailer didn’t really show much - in fact, the initial trailer with Cortana was the only clue into Halo 5.

Ah ok, I hadn’t seen people talking about this, and assumed it was addressed in Halo Wars 2 or another piece of Halo media outside the games. Good to know I haven’t missed much then!

That structure where they made Chiefs armour looked very Forerunner so perhaps they’ve somehow made amends due to the Banished threat.

The Brute Warlord refers to the “Harbinger and the Banished”. Perhaps the Harbinger are a rename of the Created. Although they are said to be serving the will of Atriox.

It won’t be resolved in this game. Think how we did not meet the Prophets or Gravemind in first game. So over the Horizon there’s this Rogue Servitor keeping humanity down but that’s not the immediate conflict.

Atriox took a mace to the Domain.
It would be very jarring to have such a big plot point resolved in between games. You might as well do a prequel at that point.

This is what I got out of it too. “The Harbinger and the Banished share the same goal”. Which is…interesting I guess? Are the Banished trying to incorporate with AI?

Harbinger might be a call back to “harbinger of your destruction” line used by the Prophet of Truth. So maybe another Covenant style faction. That would maybe explain the coloration of the enemies not all being red and Banished style.

Thanks for the detailed post, I understand they’re going for a soft reboot, but the little we’ve seen of the story has really surprised me in how the Created have seemingly taken a backseat.
I’m interested to see how it all plays out.

It went to trash were it belonged, we don’t want rise of skywalker with cortana instead of palpatine.

I didn’t like the story of Halo 5. I thought it was their worst campaign yet.
BUT we can’t magically ignore the significance of what Cortana did in Halo 5. So, I presumed they were gonna continue that story, and I wanted to know if they resolved it in other media.
Believe me, we probably share the same opinion on Halo 5’s story.
I suspect that Cortana or some AI is the Harbinger they spoke of but there was really no indication of AI help. It would be illogical to ignore Halo 5 anyways

Just as an aside. Isn’t Storm Covenant an unofficial nickname? If it is they probably should have rolled with that.
