What Happened to Strafing?

In all previous Halos, even Reach (especially no bloom MLG) your strafe meant something. You could outshoot the other person even if you were down a few shots if you had a good enough strafe. This doesn’t seem to be the case in H4.

Is it the bullet magnetism and the fact everybody uses the easy to use DMR? Hopefully with the BR as the starting weapon in the MLG v1 settings strafing becomes as important as it once was.

Strafing is a goofy video game mechanic that looks out of place in a warfare game.

I thought strafing was much more effective in Halo 4 than Reach? I’ve noticed it especially with the BR.

Well, strafing isnt as bad as you pin it to be, Its still there, just a bit different to do, and you have to get used to it…

But the overcompensation for lag with Bullet magnetism doesnt help

The DMR is way to easy to use and it needs to be nerft ASAP!!! and i agree with you on the MLG part.

Because casual dont like it when good players can dodge their shots. It creates skill gap and casuals hate skill gap because they suck. All the weapons in Halo 4 have way too much aim-assist and bullet magnetism. Can’t lower those because then the casuals will complain the game takes skill, OH WAIT they won’t even notice the game is harder because they are sheep and will agree with anything. And put in a good ranking system sucky people will be with sucky people and good players will be with good players.

Rechnically, strafing is even better than it was in Reach. But due to the effect of overuse of aim assist and bullet magnetism, it actually feels as ineffective as in Reach, if not more.

> But the overcompensation for lag with Bullet magnetism doesnt help

No compensation for lag in bullet magnetism, at least not much. The actual reason still is to make aiming with the controller easier.

Strafing was terrible in Reach because movement speed was so slow. Its not really effective in Halo 4 because auto aim is so massive but I still think its a little better than before.

With auto aim, bullet mag, and all these other things, halo now has no skill strafe, or outshooting, 95% of the time, whoever landed first shot wins. in halo 3 i could get hit twice, turn on them, outstrafe and win the fight. in halo 4 theres just no skill mechanic…

I strafe. I see people strafing all the time. I fight people who strafe all the time.

I also see a lot of people use AA’s in place of strafing so maybe there’s your answer.

Just add a few jumps,crouch’s,15 feet strafing and 3 foot strafing and you’re ready to go. Think I said that wrong…

There are many reasons why strafing in this game feels terrible.

  • Larger Hitboxes
  • Increased Bullet Magnetism
  • Increased Aim Assist
  • Slower base movement speed
  • Lower movement acceleration
  • Lag Compensation System

Those 6 factors combine to make the game the biggest joke FPS currently out there.

fat spartans with guns you don’t even have to aim with

Because that’s not entirely subjective at all.

Also I disagree with your opinion because unlike Call of Duty, Halo isn’t trying to be a “realistic” shooting “sim”. It’s at heart an arcade shooter, and the more arcadey the shooting gets (ala strafing being reintroduced) the better due to the fact that this is what the mechanics are like, it makes the game better and more fun to play.

You got the two highlighted correct. As for slower base movement speed and acceleration… compared to what? To be honest, I don’t think you even have the numbers to tell which game had the fastest movement speed and acceleration and which had the slowest. Numbers exist for the former, but I have seen none for the latter. In the end, you have the field of view affecting the perception of speed and also the feel of strafe.

But as for everything else: hitboxes have always been the exact same size, they never, ever change. And no such thing exists as “lag compensation system”, at least not how you think.

to bad this is what console gaming is all about now days… little kids.

“Strafing is a goofy video game mechanic that looks out of place in a warfare game”.

I hope this isn’t serious. If so… well, I don’t know if I’ve read anything more tragic as far as Halo is concerned.

Strafing is a lot better in halo 4 than reach.

Yeah, I never see people strafe anymore.
