What happened to Skirmishers? Is there an official name for their species? Or were they thrown into the sub species category?
Oh and I was reading someone’s head cannon on the universe forum and thought it was pretty interesting. First, would the Kig-Yar be categorized as a bird like species? If so could someone argue that, since in the bird family it’s typical to see males be more aesthetically pleasing, Skirmishers are male and Jackals are females?
Thank you, random user for the idea, Id credit you but idk who you are
They are called T’vaoan and are a sub species of the Kig-Yar. There’s a couple of known T’vaoan characters still around. Chol Von (female) attempted to create a united Kig-Yar government and Sav Fel, returned to piracy.

Well originally yes [Avian-Saurian]but they are currently diverging into more avian varieties-those of T’vao- and more primal saurian forms-those of Ibie’sh-.
Remember, the name classification is to be taken with caution as they are aliens, so they don’t necessarily fit Earth’s evolution model and species nomenclature very well.

Well skirmishers are a kig yar cousin species they do not appear to be in Jul 'madam’s covy faction but has not been confirmed skirmishers are more agile and fast, and more intelligent, Jackals are almost skirmishers on drugs. But female kig yar have been known to fight in the human covenant war, but not on the front line.

I thought the Halo 4 Kig-Yar were the same as the ordinary Jackals. I didn’t know they were another subspecies of the Kig-Yar I thought 343 just designed them differently but still had them as jackals.
In halo.wikia they only mention Jackals and Skirmishers as the Kig-Yar species.

It’s the same with the Grunts in Halo 4, they are another sub-species.

How come the storm covenant didn’t have the main species of the grunts and jackals apart of their faction as well? Why only these new (new to us) subspecies why wasn’t the storm covenant comprised of a mixture of these species?
> [Perosus Latrunculus] are well known for their evolutionary diversity, much like other [genus] of star complex [Sol]. The main characterisations of [Kig-Yar] sub-forms are those of the locales present around [Eayn], the three sub-species are T’voaon, Ruuhtian and Ibie’shan.

Ah I see. So the main covenant were only bringing in the major species of the races for the most part? But saying that wouldn’t there still be a lot of them on their home worlds too?
Wasn’t the name “Storm Covenant” just a journalist pulling stuff out of his rear end? I’ve never heard anyone in-universe use that name either. They always refer to it as Jul 'Mdama’s Covenant faction or something similar.

They are called the Storm Covenant. Look at some of the names in Halo 4, the storm rifle for example.

That name was used only in a OXM article. Have you heard someone in the books or games specifically say “Storm Covenant”?
EDIT: I should also have included that the Type-55 was not specifically made for nor by Jul 'Mdama’s Covenant. It was made to be the successor to the Type 25 and “storm rifle” is a literal translation of the word “sturmgewehr” (like the Sturmgewehr 44) which is now translated as assault rifle.

> The name ‘storm covenant’ is false. That was a careless journalist, or something, who got things wrong. Also, calling them main species and subspecies is a very way of doing it when you relate both. Kig-Yar a diverse bunch, unggoy also have differences, not only them but there are different Jiralhana’e types, even sangheili. http://www.halopedia.org/images/d/d7/H4-SpOps-JulMdama.jpg

It feels like these “new storm covenant” species names are slapped on to them. My impression is that 343 just created their own design of the original Elites, grunts and jackals but decided to make them their own different species in the end for what ever reason. I think these “new” species were intended to be the ones we’ve been used to over the years but with 343’s new design. Just like what bungie did with the Jackals.
