The AR is too powerful.
Not in the “OMG TOO OP PLZ NERFFFFFFF”
As in…what happened to short controlled bursts.
They aren’t there any more.
Heck, there’s even a medal called “Spray n Pray” (which doesn’t make sense since it’s a long distance medal…)
It should be “Short Controlled Bursts”
That’s how the gun was used in other games.
That’s how is should be used now.
Sick of being able to just hold down my trigger.
This would be fine, if it weren’t for the bullet magnetism, which 343 said “shouldn’t be noticeable” in an episode of the sprint.
Spoilers. it’s noticeable.
Ive only got the spray and pray medal with the smg.
Yeah, burst did not work well in other Halo games. You would take an extra eternity to kill your opponent.
with longshot ar and stabilization jets spray and pray medal is pretty easy to get now

have it using the AR

AR, SMG and SAW (And the answer) can all get it.

Yea its super easy with the answer because of the explosive bullets dealing most of the damage and the saw doesn’t have much spread ranged either
As the SMG is barely controlled with burst firing, getting a ranged kill with it should be “Spray n Pray”.
As the AR and SAW can be pulsed, ranged kills should be “Controlled Bursts”.
… The Scattershot needs the “Ricochet” medal to promote players bouncing rounds off walls and floors more… (You can get a farther kill than a shotgun if you do!!!)

The extra games didn’t have headshot multipliers on autos did they? Yea so there’s no need to double buff the autos. This is what I have always said. They either need to have increased spread to punish the sprays over distance or remove the headshot multiplier and up the base damage a little bit because getting ended by long range AR spray headshots is completely luck based, which is the opposite of how Halo is built.
Well since Sgt Johnson has passed in Halo 3, his lessons can’t be implemented into the new games. RIP Johnson. But seriously it’s like I can’t even do short controlled bursts anymore otherwise I’ll die pretty quick, have to go full blast on the trigger.
Yeah, the AR was always underpowered in Halo 1 - 3. I’m glad it’s a more viable weapon now.
I’m pretty sure Halo Reach and Halo 4 are the only games where bursting with the AR makes any sense.
It was wildly inaccurate in CE regardless of what you chose to do, and in Halo 3 I’m pretty sure it had no bloom mechanics whatsoever.
It’s not as though that technique was ever ideal. Now that we spawn with a useful pistol, the distance at which short bursts are useful is dominated the the pistol. I’m totally cool with that.
Actually bursts can work pretty well with the AR. But all things considered the AR has never been about controlled bursts.
The biggest lie UNSC sergeants have been spreading for years.
The assault rifle was best in the beta… And short controlled bursts was really effective coupled with precision shots.
But people complained it was too “over powered” and they made the weapon not as skillful/great. The bloom effect and burst fire ensured that if you burst fired precisely, you dealt more damage than leaving spray and pray to chance.
It’s never existed as a meaningful tactic at any level.
This isn’t a military shooter. You’d think after 14 years and 6 games people would figure it out.

That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be. This game right now even in Warzone is an AR sprayfest. It’s embarrasing.

We’ve got a gun for short controlled bursts. The BR.
It depends. If someone is within 15-20 feet of me, I’ll unload the whole thing. But there are times where instead of reloading my magnum while shooting an enemy at a good distance, I’ll switch to my AR and pop off a few rounds and get the kill.
So, distance. That’s the answer to your question. I burst fire if I can fit the entire spartan in my AR reticle. If they’re closer, I let it fly.
