What happened to Red Reticle?

Other than the plasma pistol and pulse carbine, I don’t get a red reticle while aiming at enemies. During the flights, I had assumed this was a bug, because it did show up in the training mode, but well, it’s still like this. Also some people in the halo discord confirmed their games do this too. As a halo player for all 20 years it’s existed, this is just strange to me, and feels innately wrong, because I’m so used to that red showing up as feedback for “Yes, you are indeed aiming at the right thing!”, and it really helps out, especially for precision weapons. So what’s up, does anybody know why this was changed?
[My best guess as for why this was done is, maybe 343 removed the Auto-aim from all the guns except the plasma ones, and traditionally, the red reticle denotes “auto aim will work right now”. Thing is though, even if there was no Auto-aim, I’d still like the red reticle when you’re aiming in optimal range; it’s a wonderful UI feedback tool that makes the game feel excellent to play.]

Yeah can someone please explain this? The energy sword and needler has “red-dot”, but none of the other weapons does for me. I don’t belive that it has ANYTHING to do with cheats in tearms of coding (as some people belive) since this wasn’t a problem for halo 4 pc edit. PLEASE bring back the red dot! It’s a trademark for Halo, and i belive it should be in the game on pc aswell

They turned it off tso PC cheaters can’t cheat. That way they cannot write a script when the radical turns red it will not auto track or auto aim or whatever because we all know PC gamers are plagued with cheaters.

making the game less enjoyable in general to avoid potential cheaters does more harm than good. a program that would use the red reticule to autoaim would also need high level image processing to stay on target.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind the lack of red reticle if I could just customize the colour of my reticle in the first place.

I agree that they should have kept it but the script isnt to auto aim when red. The script is much simpler than that…The script would be to shoot when red. Theoretically you would never miss a shot with the sniper because as soon as it turns red it would shoot. No reflexes required. You could spin in a circle and as long as the reticule turned red you would land a shot. Granted the majority of players would not be running a script like this.

from what i read, the RRR cheat works by firing as soon as the reticule turns red.
by the nature of that cheat, it is inhumanly fast and absolutely consistent.
this makes it easy to spot with an anticheat script that compares rrr to firing reaction times (how fast it is and how identical the reaction times are), and if the margin of error is to low, your RR gets turned of for the round. easy solution.

the reaction time and consistency would make this cheat very easy to discover by a simple anticheat script that checks and compares how fast and consistently you pull the trigger after rrr.

Agreed, removing the red reticule fixes the simple cheat method, but they could easily do heuristics and determine if people are cheating. Not sure why they went with the band aid approach instead of designing the game with anti cheat theory

I’m a big fan of red reticle, I hope it’s in campaign at least.

yep. a simple " first shot after rrr" table that takes the diffence between the highest and lowest delay after red reticule, and if the difference is to small the cheater gets booted.

thats even simpler than heuristics and would find other auto-trigger methodes too. because bots are inhumanly consistant, ant consistancy is mathenmaticaly obvious.

by the same methode the anticheat can look for perfectly consistent aim deceleration on target to find sticky aim bots and check for perfectly consistant aim acceleration to detect proactive aim bots.

stick aim, proactive aim, and auto trigger are the main aimbot types.

if this system is to be cheated, it would have to be a less perfect aimbot, which makes that less of an issue for game enjoyment.

Makes no sense to me though though. Halo MCC had this feature on pc, yet they won’t keep it in Infinite? Seems to me that if the argument is anti-cheat, that would suggest they don’t belive in the anti-cheat system. Would be just as “easy” to write a code for aim-lock, wall-hack or any other cheat. Just but “red-reticle” back in Halo please, or completely remove from both platforms.

I don’t like the current trend to remove nice functions who existed already for no reasons, or exaggerated ones.
Red reticle should be there for all weapons.
