What happened to Halo? Where did the magic go? You know, the Halo Magic? The magic which kept gamer after gamer online for hours and hours. It’s not your companies fault, but to the Halo 2 and to the Halo 3 fans it’s your turn to try to find this magic again.
In my opinion, Halo 2 and Halo 3 had one “THING” in common. This is going to sound strange to some, but others are going to understand what it is I’m saying right away. Bungie, somehow succeeded in creating a virtual sporting complex for gamers. Halo 2 and Halo 3 was fun for non-competitive gamers and competitive gamers alike. For the most part the maps, in both Halo 2 and Halo 3, were perfect for online matchmaking. If gamers wanted to better their “Halo Skills” they had to put the time in to practice, just like one would practice in basketball, football or baseball, and the best part is it was really fun to practice in this virtual sporting complex Bungie created. Non-competitive gamers enjoyed the competitiveness of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Everyone wanted to better their “Halo Skills” in both of those games and, yes, it was frustrating at times, but it was really fun. Many gamers made the transition from being a non-competitive gamer to becoming a competitive gamer.
Reach is a fun game…It’s fun…Personally, I can’t play it for hours like I could in Halo 2 or Halo 3. It, seriously, lacks competitive game-play and there will be many who strongly disagree with my words. It doesn’t matter to me though because I’m just trying to put words out there which, hopefully, will help find this Halo Magic again.
There are going to be many gamers who aren’t going to be happy with Halo: CE Anniversary, but, please, keep at it. If everyone at 343 Industries wants Halo to be the dominant game it was then, please, keep trying and hopefully it will get there. However, if 343 Industries is happy with their projects and the numbers are good then congratulations.
The Halo 3 to Reach transition reminds me a lot of the Halo CE to Halo 2 transition. In both transitions the skill required to be successful was reduced significantly but at least Halo 2 was consistent while Reach is very inconsistent.
The inconsistency and lack of visible skill progression means Reach doesn’t have the pull of previous Halo games. Reach isn’t fun either because of the inconsistency so people just stop playing.
I love this game. I can play it for hours on end. The hate Reach get is ridiculous. Halo is still the most competitive console game out there. I play the CoD series and the Battlefield series, but those games aren’t as much about winning as Halo is, they are more about individual achievement. I think the bloom is the biggest factor in players struggles with this game, but I’ve gotten to the point where I like it and I’m good with it. I really think Halo4 will bring alot of people back because 343 is listening, but its hard to change Reach for the masses because the game was build around bloom.

What exactly do you mean by inconsistent? And BTW just to say, how does this relate to Anniversary? I didn’t see one word for CEA XD I never played the old Halo’s but my husband did. He adored Halo 2 and hated Halo 3 and I can’t help but agree on the Halo 3. From what i’ve played in just Halo 3 I love reach in comparison a ton more. Better sound, better graphics, and waaaay more competitiveness. I mean I do tend to get fustrated at the players here and there but that’s the players and how they decide to play…not the game. Halo Reach takes more skill if you ask me. Mainly in snipers. The only HUUUGE thing I hate is host advantage. EVERY single time we get someone/some people from Mexico/Australia/Canada that get host and have a beyond laggy game which makes for double shields and non-counting headshots. But I still love Halo and I love that my husband got me into the best fps game there is
But a FEW terrible qualities like BAD vehicle mechanics, AA’s, glitchy loadouts and little incentive to play well are BAD BAD BAD but 343 can’t be blamed for this NOR should Bungie…
the MORONIC and INSATIABLE gaming public that buys any new game when it comes out is to blame…‘demanding’ new content in every release…
343i needs to go back to basics, take all the good from all the Halo’s and make it work…it’s not like it’s rocket science…

The bloom, dodgy geometry/physics that cause grenades to stick or bounce incorrectly/unpredictably. Bad spawning system that isn’t consistent and overly complex to the point it’s impossible to predict and bad for high level competitive play.
The general balancing of the sandbox with many weapons being far easier to use effectively than in previous Halo games thus reducing the skill gap on them.
Anniversary will still have 85% bloom and the zero bloom pistol still has spread making it random.
> Halo Reach takes more skill if you ask me. Mainly in snipers.
The sniper in Reach is one of the easiest snipers ever in a Halo game because of the huge hitboxes, it is right up there with the Halo 2 sniper.

Reach is better at hiding lag than other Halos but lag does suck and together with bloom makes the game intolerable.
On-host you can just spam away at the body and geographically distant people off-host won’t get consistent enough hit registry to be able to do the same.
The headshot hitboxes for host are actually smaller so if on-host you can get away with firing slightly faster but you have to be more precise with the headshot for the kill.
Mainly I just wanted to say I agree Reach has it’s glitches but i’ve seen waaay worse and you can’t expect things to be perfect.
The sniper is a precision weapon, it has a very small ridicule and it takes more skill than nearly every weapon on Reach if used fairly against another sniper. My husband actually used mainly the beam rifle in Halo 2 which has an even smaller ridicule then a sniper. The only ones it doesn’t take skill for is camping wall/rock glitchers who make me sick. And they still get raped. Good snipers aren’t campers. The only sniper campers are the cappy ones, glitchers or the sniper whorez on slayer.
Lag is lag. I can’t even express/say all the things that have happened with lag. Snipers and BTB being the worst with lag for some reason? Mexico players being the worst as well as Colombia. I even fell through the floor with my husband yesterday in a game with lag!? No matter you preciseness in snipers it doesn’t count, i’m sorry but it actually hitting them when you shoot to the side of them is NOT preciseness XD If you played snipers enough you’d see how it is XD They’ll be skipping and sliding everywhere and on their screen you look like an idiot standing there. I’ve seen clips of host advantages, I know how bad it is. Extreme lag is more common in snipers and BTB it’s not even funny.
Sorry it’s early and i’m tired with only 5 hours of sleep and some annoying dreams so I may have some grammer or typing errors XD Ingnore that hon ^-^
I’d have to agree with the OP. My friends and I still play Halo 3 religiously while our Reach game is collecting dust somewhere.
What I am so disappointed is that they would allow the anniversary maps to be polluted with these jet packs… etc etc. If they are intending to keep it original, using the Reach engine wasn’t the way to go.

Hon, this isn’t Halo 4. We don’t know what their doing on that subject, it’s going to be it’s own engine. The Anniversary campaign is it’s own and the new maps are basically just an add on for reach. You can’t expect a new system for a ‘not-new’ game!
the fun ended when Reach launched but the CEA campaign is far more fun then the Reach simply put. When I play Reach campaign it feels like an ODST with over shields and when I play CEA campaign it feels like I’m a SPARTAN 2 super soldier.
CEA completely owns Reach in campaign, the games more responsive and the weapons are better balanced and useful. Why didn’t Bungie just leave the Pistol from Halo:CE alone and just move it to Halo2/Halo3/ODST/Reach? The pistol on CEA is better already than the one on Reach. wow 10 years have gone by so fast.
I just wish the MM played exactly the same as on CEA, in other words I wish we could play CEA with MM playlist but not controlling Noble 6 and Reach characteristics and game physics.

^^^^ Holly nailed it on the spot. Halo CE actually took skill to play with no auto aim… Halo 2 wasn’t awful but then H3 came out it was like having a computer just aim for you. Unreal how much they have made this game to cater to make $$$ and that’s it.
