What happened to halo 4?

I’d like to start off saying I have always been a huge halo fan and loved halo 4 and played it the week it came out. I spent countless hours playing it and defending the game from haters but just recently I got back into playing halo 4 and what happened? No DLC holder’s playlist, most map choices are created in forge (so what was the point of paying for DLC?), and all the game modes are on a week rotation with no gaurantee we will see them again.

That’s not all, but there have been a couple game modes and maps that just plain don’t work. Hivemind on Temple, part of the map is inaccessible, like walking down the map in front of the human spawn, while getting on top of the map is accessible? What? Or the constant host migrations that cause people to get damage boosts and instantly regenerating shields? Admittedly it was probably a problem with lag and hosts but my connection is tip top so when I’m experiencing a host problem for 2 hours along with my friends (host changes every minute) there is something clearly wrong with the host migration program.

Experience, it has the same problem Reach had where challenges were worth something but now it only saves you maybe a match or two. I know it got better from 200xp challenges to what it is now but I guess that is my opinion as it only affects gun skins and armour.

Team Killing…when was that implemented again? I have been team killed countless times for grabbing the sniper rifle or sword by my own team mates before I can retaliate.

In summary, why are most maps forge maps that may or may not work or have pretty crap design layouts, and when can we expect a solid line up of game modes and when did Team Killing come back?

I hate to even ask these because it was never a problem a year ago but it robs the fun of halo.

From a concerned gamer.

What happened to Halo 4?

It started out awful but painfully slowly was improved to be where it is now and is somewhat recognizable as a Halo game again.

To me Halo 4 in the beginning was horrible, to me they have fix at lot they can fix.

-I don’t think you can fix host migration problems unless you have dedicated servers.

-Team killing is only on certain playlist.

-If I recall a large part of the forge maps were community made.

-DlC playlist are part of the rotational playlist. (unfortunately)

-Im pretty sure we will see the gametypes again in rotation playlist.

Hope that shreds off a little concern or clears things up.

Team Killing never left TC.
Team damage was removed for INFINITY gametypes, and still is.
Additionally Splatters have always resulted in team damage. I assume the Splatter was left on so somebody in a ghost couldn’t speed boost a guy carrying a flag.

I also hate forge maps. It is bad enough that if I play Exile on BTB, the weapon/vehicle placement is one way, and then it is another way if I play Exile in CTF. Not only do I have to learn the map, but each @#)48 playlist changes the weapon locations. THEN they add in all these DLC maps giving players even more to try to learn, and THEN they throw in Forge maps.

It is no wonder that so many people have left. The average player just doesn’t stand a chance when there are HUNDREDS of combinations in rotation.

WTF are you talking about? The situation I highlighted has been happening since Halo 3, its pretty standard procedure in Halo games. And people didn’t leave because of your reason, they left because the game was horrible and unbalanced at launch.

What happened to Halo 4? It started out horrible and has turned into to satisfactory game. That would be my opinion on it.

Actually I really do have fun playing multi-player now. Especially Big Team Battle. Or any Big Team match/game modes. I do like regular Team Slayer too.

My main issue now, and the reason I get bored with the game after a few matches, is that we end up playing the same maps over and over and over again. For those of us that have the DLC maps I mean. If there was a way they could figure out to allow us to play with the DLC maps more regularly, and no, not for just one or two week special events, I would be playing as much as i did Halo 3 and maybe, maybe, as much as i played Gears of War 2 and 3 online.

And yes, I know the reasons/excuses. Just stating that buying maps and not getting to play on them in public multi-player, or only getting to play on them for a few weeks and then see that playlist disappear, sucks.

Ohh, and ditching Firefight for Spartan Ops. Spartan Ops is OK but no where near as fun as Firefight was, In My Opinion.

they should remove team killing from EVERY playlist and not just doubles, ts and bts
especially from grifball i mean wtf i get more killed by my teammates than by the enemies

Halo 4 was 343i’s attempt at asymmetric warfare. They experimented with a bunch of stuff, and they threw it all together without really considering the whole. I suspect they learned a lot, which is why the game improved so much since launch.

You need to break a few eggs to make an omelette, and I think Halo 5 will be mighty tasty thanks to Halo 4’s hits and misses. Just look at Halo 4’s evolution since launch.

They’ve made significant weapons updates and managed to do a decent job balancing a very tricky weapons sandbox.

They added simpler, more “Halo” gametypes like regular old Slayer where they effectively removed perks.

They learned a ton about what AA’s do and don’t work.

So they’re heading in the right direction… fewer bells and whistles and more Halo 101. If they keep it going, Halo 5 could be as impactful for this generation of gamers as CE was for my generation.

Short personal answer: 343 Industries -Yoinked!- up.

Long personal answer: Halo 4 just started out as a mess and never really managed to recover. Sure it had updates that seemed to indicate 343 Industries was listening to the fanbase, but a lot of it had this “Too little, too late” feeling. Hell, some stuff was just embarrassing to watch. Remember the request for the classic red X upon death? We got an X, but a white X that tended to blend with the environments and traveled with a dead player’s body and vanished pretty quickly due to instant respawn. How exactly was that so easy to mess up?

Then you have to remember that there was a lot of “Well, we have no plans, but…” answers. Custom games got it. Theater got it. Spartan Ops got it. Yet what do we have to show for it? BS Angel coming onto the massive custom games thread to say that it was being looked up and nothing substantial happening months later. Spartan Ops? That was avoided for a bit before eventually being revealed that no Season 2 was on the way. Theater? Again, ignored until being revealed that no Campaign or Spartan Ops theater opinions were available.

I could probably go on and on with things like Armor Abilities, Loadouts and other questionable mechanics being implemented, but that usually ends up being a subjective argument at best. I’ll just say that I could get past them, but it wasn’t exactly the direction many were expecting or hoping for.

Ordinarily if the multiplayer for something isn’t too good, at least I have the story-based modes to fall back on. Not for Halo 4. I rarely replay the Campaign and have no desire to ever revisit Spartan Op’s shameful copying and pasting button pressing fare.

Could’ve been better.

Halo problems are tooooooooooooo big… Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, Lag, pure maps, stupid spartan ops that have no point(crimson go left, are you on left? go right…) All time long… And spartan ops is on 2 maps, so same -Yoink- all day long… From right to left and back… Bad DLC politic… Bad maps, camping achievements… “Halo 4” is created only to get campers from COD and to 343 get many… That is it… If you stay for 5 sec, you are gone from radar…

And what is good now? Nothing… Game is a limited, as people that created the game…

I always figured the reason we never got Theater was because of how the overall graphics on the game looked. When you think about it, here was a massive graphic overhaul from Halo 3 to 4. And as a result of that, we lost Theater and the open sandbox feel of the other games. Halo 4 was very linear. It looked awesome, but all the levels consisted of moving in a straight line and pressing switches. We didn’t have a level in Halo 4 that was like “The Ark” from Halo 3 or “Assault the Control Room” from Halo CE.

Couldn’t agree with you more on Spartan Ops.

lag has nothing to do with the game, but either with ur internet connection, or the hosts connection… i agree with you that there are to less maps for sp ops and that gets kinda boring but the majority of halo players are playing matchmaking, i wouldn’t mind if sp ops would have been left out, though the cutscenes are awesome.
dlc playlist coming soon let’s see if they keep it, and it’s good that u disappear from radar otherwise it would be lame
