what happened to del rio ?

how did Lasky became the Captain of Infinity !?

Because Del Rio is a -Yoinking!- -Yoink-.

During the Longsword mission they quickly mention what happened to Del Rio, and its actually a pretty decent “common sense” moment for the plot.

Del Rio gets back to Earth with the Infinity. He tells command what happened on Requim and that he left Master Chief there. UNSC Command understandably flips their -Yoink!- because Del Rio refused to listen to the guy who saved humanity multiple times over and left him to most likely die on an alien planet with a hostile force. UNSC Command, most of whom were people who either worked with Chief or were saved by him, immediately demoted him and gave Lasky command of the Infinity.

After the events in Halo 4 he’ll also probably be court marshaled and thrown in jail. Because he’s directly responsible for all of those people dying on Earth.

When Del Rio returned to Earth with the Infinity and informed Fleetcom of the situation at Requiem, Fleetcom took his decision to leave the Master Chief behind extremely poorly and decided to remove him from the Captain’s chair in favor of Lasky. You can hear this bit of information during the trench run on the last mission.

What those two said. I wanted Chief to kick his -Yoink- so bad. Dude was a -Yoink-.

Hopefully he was busted down to a lower rank or court marshalled, he was obviously drunk with power and is responsible for the deaths of everyone that died from the composer due to his refusal to engage the Didact on Requiem.

This.

My favorite part of this sub-plot, is that it shows how much earth and command respect Master Chief.

“Master Chief is alive? And you left him to fight this powerful force, which will come to earth, all alone?”

In all fairness if Chief had gone with Del Rio he could have possible put a stop to the didact at Earth anyway, the missions leading up to the last were pointless because each time Master Chief failed. Didact escaped from Requiem. Got the composer and got to earth unscathed. The only worth while missions for Cheif was the librarian speeding up his evolutionary process to protect him against the composer. Apart from that i think Del Rio made a fair point to warn FleetCom.

The only reason the shields to the Diadact’s ship were taken down was because Chief was already close to the ship/below its shields when it went into slip-space towards Earth. There’s no way to gauge how well UNSC weaponry would have worked against the Didact’s ship had its shields been in tact.

The point is that the Infinity was able to assist in stopping the Didact at Earth. However many people were digitized.

Had the Infinity stayed at Requiem they could have stopped the Didact without needless loss of human life.
