I see tons of discussion about progression in halo infinite, but none (that I have found) mention casual/social ranks as opposed to battle pass progression). These are two different types of progression that I think are being overlooked.
Casual/social ranks are those that are earned from simple xp like kills/assists/wins/losses etc. You grind through these ranks from recruit to general, Halo games have had casual ranks for as far back as I can remember. It’s just a simple badge to show off how hard you’ve been grinding. These are different than the ranked playlist ranks (bronze/silver/gold etc). I believe halo 2 was the last before they separated casual/ranked.
Battle pass is a totally different system. This system should run parallel with casual/social ranks and ranked playlist ranks. Progression through the battle pass simply awards cosmetics, boosts, etc. As you grind through your ranks of recruit to general, you can also be completing battle pass challenges to unlock items (armor, skins, etc.)
For some reason, these casual ranks have been completely left out of halo infinite. It would be one thing if I was asking for them to add some new feature, but this is a feature as old as the franchise. It should be added immediately. We need to be able to:
Grind social/casual ranks (recruit-general): XP
Progress battle pass: challenge based or xp
Grind ranked play: skill based
Does everyone miss this feature like I do? I love how the game feels and it is truly fun to play. But my xp for assists, objectives, etc. are being thrown in the trash. It’s a waste to even show me “+50 assist”…plus 50 what? What did my assist help with? As far as I can tell, nothing.
Upvote it if you agree.
