Hopefully he was on a shuttle when -Yoink!- cortana zapped the planet. He crashed to earth cursing the fact he didn’t end her himself before the one tonne super solider got in his way

If Master Chief had complied with Del Rio, it’s highly likely nothing would have stopped the Didact and humanity would have been Composed to exist forever more as tortured minds fighting the Didact’s battles. He made the wrong call, and when Master Chief and Cortana stood up to him, only then did he order her destruction. It was pride, not protocol, dictating his actions, and he gets no points from hindsight seeing what Cortana has done, because he had no way of knowing or suspecting that this was even a possibility.
