Jiralhanae
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Post-war[edit]
“Yes run little demons. Hunt them down. Find out where they came from, and bring me back anything useful.”
— Atriox after beating Red Team.[25]
After the Covenant’s disastrous defeat at the Ark, Jiralhanae society splintered among many tribes. A large number of Jiralhanae returned to Doisac, where they continued to fight among themselves as the organization imposed on the species by the Covenant fell apart.[2] Many Jiralhanae refused to cease their campaigning against the Sangheili and the two species remained locked in an irregular conflict for years to come. When the remaining San’Shyuum retreated into hiding, the Jiralhanae returned to their primitive, savage nature, allowing the Sangheili to gain the upper hand in battle. A Sangheili shipmastervisiting Kholo noted that at least some Jiralhanae factions had separated from those loyal to the former Covenant and were waging an internecine war against each other and thus the Brutes like their Elite counterparts, were fighting in a two-front war.[10] Additionally, due to the Jiralhanae’s lack of advanced technology, they were unable to attain resources or even food for themselves, instead resorting to raids on Sangheili settlements. This, in turn, only served to provoke further violence between the two species.[15] Jiralhanae clans hidden in corners throughout the Orion Arm continued to gather strength, intent on resuming the work of the dissolved Covenant.[26] There were some exceptions, however. On March 5, 2558, the Jiralhanae Chieftain Lydus represented a polity of Jiralhanae willing to begin peace talks with the Swords of Sanghelios and the UNSC on Ealen IV.[15] However, initial peace talks were foiled by a mercenary group hired by the human New Colonial Alliance.[27]
The Banished, a mercenary organization that had broken away from the Covenant in the early 2540s, is led by and predominantly composed of Jiralhanae. They began to amass a considerable degree of power in the war’s aftermath, even invading and occupying the Ark in 2559.[28] A few Jiralhanae allied with various remnants of the Covenant; some fought on behalf of Merg Vol’s forces during the Battle of Draetheus V in 2554, and others fought in the Battle of Installation 03 as part of Jul 'Mdama’s Covenant in 2557. A number of Jiralhanae, such as Manus and the crew of Piety, remained loyal to their Sangheili commanders during the split of the Covenant.[29][2] As such, some served the Sangheili as security guards and servants on Sanghelios. However, this did not come without conflict. In March 2553, Jiralhanae servants in the state of Ontom launched insurgent attacks, which resulted in the death of dozens of Sangheili. Their revolt was quickly quelled by the city militia.[30]

Borrowed from Halopedia; apparently I can cut and paste images. This fills me with evil…I mean neutral thoughts.

The real world reason is 343i was worried if they couldnt balance them with everything else, and played it safe.

This is really sad. While I get that they are mostly just portrayed as the villains in the series (not to mention that they are fictional), knowing that they face a very bleak future of violence and famine makes it seem unfair that their entire race is painted as barbaric monsters (definitely earning their namesake of Brutes). Atriox is intelligent and cunning enough to mobilize many of them into a dangerous military presence, so it’s not like they’re all mindless savages.
I hope someone (or someones) come along to help bring them out of this current “dark age” that that they are in right now.

Very well said, maybe one day we will get a Story about a brute similar the Arbiter’s.

Play Halo Wars 2. You’ll enjoy the different variety of Brutes.

Its how they’ve always been though, really. They survived nuking themselves into oblivion just before the Covenant found them and I have no doubt that they’ll come back from this too.

The brutes are present in the current comics but just not involved in the events of halo 4/5. The brute home world has hit rough times so they have signed a peace treaty with the Arbiter. (Well, they tried to anyway. The UNSC tried to coordinate the meeting but they were sabotaged by Captain Cutter’s son.)

Understanding they’re not really part of 4/5 i wish there was more of a nod to them i.e on genesis there’s the lone grav hammer i believe. Just wishing there was more in the intel or easter eggs like a downed ship or something. They are integral to the overall plot.

Maybe they’ll show up in H6… hahaha. Dream on. Brute Boss would be great!!!

The Brutes are back in Halo Wars 2 and they’re better than ever!

Yes i own halo wars 2 but for some reason its hard for me to in vision atriox as a brute, its not at all what they looked like in halo 1-3 and lets just be honest what time is halo wars 2 in align with halo 5? the guardian at the end of halo wars 2 really threw me off, now we have people on the internet thinking that guardians are like dudes that can travel the multiverse and that the next game halo will make will be half campaign half command of a fleet like halo wars 1/2 + 1st person. they think that halo wars 2 is like another reality and that the spirit of fire follows a guardian through a portal to where they meet the other reality which is halo 5. i believe none of it though. if your into those kinds of things where they think they can tell something amazing about halo before it happens i think its dumb. if you really want to know about halo before the things come out you need to do it yourself. the best place i think to go is comic con convention where surprisingly, those mega constructs halo sets actually contain spoilers about viechles and characters coming out. but back to brutes, i always would think of brutes as a cross between Chewbacca and the Hulk when i was younger. They’ve suffered a lot and are pretty much that one species that lives through everything thrown at them( like the flood). i might just be super crazy but for some reason i have this nagging feeling the in halo 6 the flood will return and brutes will have a big role to play. . . . . .

Apparently Halo wars 2 is after Halo 5. Im very bad remembering the dates

Halo Wars 2 takes place less than a year after Halo 5,but the timeline with the two endings directly links the entire timeline together. Both events occurred at the same time. There are various forms of Brutes just like the changes with the Elites or varying human populations.

the brute specis is still around, as mercenaries, or factions like atrioxs banished.

I’ve been dying for the Brutes to make a comeback in the games & after playing HW2, it’s safe to assume they will be in future mainline games. That including Halo 6. But if they aren’t in Halo 6 then I’d be disappointed tbh.

I think after what happened in halo 3 the brutes went back to their homeworld Doisac. They quickly began fighting amongt themselves and had a resource shortage because the covenant didn’t give them advanced technology and they couldn’t invent the technology on their own. So things got so bad that they had to raid elite and human colonies to not starve to death. I think I also remember a story about brute uprisings on sanghelious (I’m sorry if that’s spelled wrong) so I think a few of them also were either captured or chose not to betray the elites.

I think most of them joined the Banished though some were with Jul Mdama and then turned on him at one point.
