What Halo 6 Needs to Succeed

The title itself is self explanatory. Now keep in mind that with how large this is, I HAVE to split it all up into different comments (probably 3 to 5). So with that said, this is NOT SPAM! So with that said, lets begin. Here are 16 things Halo 6 needs in order to succeed.

  1. Better Graphics:

I decided to get this one out of the way first because its simple. When Halo 4 first came out, it looked awesome, it was beautiful. Then Halo 5 came out and while still impressive, it wasn’t the great “next-gen” graphics that I was wanting. It just looked like Halo 4 with a slightly upped graphics and different HUD, nothing special. Character-model wise, it was great, environment wise, it could be better. When I say the environment, I’m refering to rocks, grass and trees that while look nice, arent as detailed as I would have liked. The explosions in Halo 5 don’t look so good either. If you compare the graphics, environment and explosions of DICE’s Star Wars to Halo 5: Guardians, then you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Those were my expectations and what I’m expecting for Halo 6. Other than that, I really hope that, unlike Halo 5, Halo 6 really looks “next-gen”.

  1. Better UI/Main Menu

So in order to have a good Halo UI/menu, we have to look at past Halo menus and ask which game had the best menu? And I think most fans can agree with me that Halo: Reach had the best UI in all the series. From the main menu, to its player lobby. You can look at each player, see their name, rank, armor, service record, file share and see their armor completion and commendation progress and even see their species preference. In Halo 5, you can’t even see their name or rank unless they’re in your fireteam, which is stupid. The carnage report also shows the 3 best medals earned in the game, who killed who the most and all the medals earned in the game. In Halo 6, we could do this, but show who is the MVP like in Halo 3. So for Halo 6, we really need the Halo: Reach UI.

  1. A Great Campaign with “Proper” Character depictions:

Having the Campaign being a great Campaign is obviously a must. I say this because Halo 5’s campaign wasn’t great. One of the problems with Halo 5’s campaign was its false marketing and its lacking narrative in its cutscenes. With this said, 343 must make sure Halo 6’s campaign marketing doesn’t lie, and the overall campaign experience from story, level variantion and design, character narrative and single player and co-op gameplay must be fantastic.

One of the problems I have with Halo 5’s campaign is some character depictions in Halo 5 were just wrong. Dr. Halsey and Cortana were depicted in the Halo 4 look in Halo 5’s prologue, which took place on Reach, so they should have been depicted as seen in Halo: Reach. Do I even need to mention what they did to The Arbiter? I mean, jesus what did they do to you? He was perfectly depicted in Halo 2: Anniversary, he looked strong, intimidating, eloquent and noble. So why suck out the eloquent and noble look out of him? I’m referring to his physical appearance of course and not his armor. Now I don’t hate the Halo 4 look of the Elites, I mean it worked in Halo 4. They looked like Elite terrorists, and they were (or at least they worked with an Elite terrorist). For Jul 'Mdama and his his Elites, the Halo 4 look to the Elites worked, for someone good and noble like the Arbiter, it doesn’t. Canon-wise, he shouldn’t look like that. His look in Halo 5 was apparently due to “resource management”. Well I say they need to manage their resources better. There’s even a thread about The Arbiter’s anatomy change from H2A to Halo 5.

Now compare these images of The Arbiter from Halo 2: Anniversary’s prologue and epilogue and The Arbiter from Halo 5

Now which depiction of The Arbiter looks better to you? For me and many fans, its the first one, his depiction in Halo 2: Anniversary, hands down no comparison. So for Halo 6, please dipict characters properly with their proper design and not retcon your character designs like you did with The Arbiter.

  1. Split-Screen:

Pretty obvious why, many people were outraged by its removal in Halo 5 as many fans still play split-screen. While it doesn’t really affect me personally, I still sympathize with those that want this feature back. It was, and still is, a great way to play with your friends in the same house and was great for Machinima in the past. Without it, Machinima is harder to make. Having split-screen return is definitely a big priority for Halo 6.

  1. Better Customization:

Lets face it, Halo 5’s customization is lacking, options wise. Nobody asked for only Helmet, Visor and Armor, and what were they thinking with “having” to have Service Tags be 4 letters and/or numbers? Another problem with Halo 5 was its emblems. Now don’t get me wrong, a lot of Halo 5’s emblems are awesome and some even funny, but the lack of the ability to color each part of our emblem and customize our emblem like in Halo 2-Halo: MCC is sad. Having premade emblems like in Halo 5 is fine, but let us be able to color each part of it however we want and let us create our own emblems like almost every other Halo before it.

For Halo 6, we need all of Halo 4’s customization options back, but for new customization options, I bring in the idea of Heads Up Display (HUD) customization options. I give credit to Wangtime for this idea and I’ve expanded upon it. We could earn different HUD’s for us to use in multiplayer. Each character in Halo 5 had their own HUD so why not expand them into the multiplayer and be able to change the color of them? I want to have a Red HUD for my Spartan and Elite. Oh yeah Elites, join me in the next thing on this list.

  1. Playable Elites:

This has been a huge debate for many Halo fans. Many want them back while some want them left out to keep gameplay balance. So how do we deal with this. Well I think I’ve figured it out. To keep balance in competitive Arena, Elites are not allowed there, but are welcome in pretty much anywhere else. Social Arena, Warzone, Invasion, Firefight (we’ll get to that later) and Custom Games. Playable Elites are so important to many of us cause many players see themselves in the Halo universe as Elites. And to be denied the ability to express themselves that way as its been done in the past is just sad. I am a huge fan of The Arbiter Thel 'Vadam, so I like to show my loyalty to him by playing as an Elite (and by having my Halo Waypoint emblem be his emblem lol).

Playable Elites added customization variety and added gameplay diversity. Reach did it fantastically with Invasion and I still regard it as my all time favorite Halo gametype, more than Warzone and definitely more than Warzone: Assault which is pretty much a much worse version of Invasion. Seriously, Invasion needs to come back! For Warzone, players could choose which species they want to play as at the start of the match (like choosing a side in classic Star Wars: Battlefront). If players don’t choose within 7 seconds, they are immediately assigned what their preferred species is (somethings that also should return from Reach). One idea that I had was with Elites, teammates appear Dark Blue on the player’s reticle (like in Star Wars: Battlefront II) and with Spartans, as always, teammates appear Green. Machinima was another great use for playable Elites, if we never had them, we would never have Tucker’s child in RvB and having the Arbiter in the Arby “n” the Chief series be a Spartan in Halo 3 and Halo: Reach would have been weird.

Halo 5’s ending (SPOILER ALERT) has the Covenant defeated and Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris reunited with The Arbiter and the Swords of Sanghelios on Sanghelios. Teasing us with Spartans teaming up with Elites in the Campaign and yet not having Elites playable in the multiplayer is frustrating. With the state of the Halo universe, we need to team up with the Elites to take down Cortana and the Created and Elites training with Spartans in multiplayer would make sense canon wise. I don’t think I need to mention the Anvil Station in Halo: Online, but hey, more of a reason canon-wise it can be done. If you want to see how big the demand is for Elites to return to Halo multiplayer is, go the the link here.

Nothing else to say but please bring them back

  1. Loadout Weapon Customization: [Edit: WARZONE ONLY]

I know this is kind of a frowned upon thing for Halo to some, but it could very well be a good thing if done correctly. And heres how I see that. Customized weapons with attachments are “only” in Warzone. We can add attachments to our loadouts, the more attachments we add, the more REQ level it’ll cost to bring into Warzone. A standard BR or Longshot BR costs 3 REQs to bring in as a loadout weapon, so if you add an attachment like a silencer, it’ll cost more to bring in. I’d say we should be able to add about three attachments and choose our skins for our loadout weapons in Warzone. Another thing we can do to make it stand out more is being able to give our customized loadout weapon a name. One last thing to add is being able to change the color of our weapon skins. Say you got a Spiral BR skin and your like “oh I don’t like the colors” you can change the colors on it to what whatever you want. So if you have the Sprial BR skin, you change it from Red and White to Pink and Blue, Black and Blue, Red and Green (whatever you want).

Instead of unlocking weapons in REQ packs with preset attachments, we unlock attachments for us to use to customize our loadout weapons. So scopes like Recon, Longshot, Sentinel and Projection sight could be unlocked via REQ pack and/or getting a certain ammount of kills with a weapon. As time goes on, DLC could include new attachments like the Halo 4 Battle Rifle scope, the Halo 4 DMR scope and the Halo 2 Battle Rifle scope (for the Halo purists). By doing this, players are given more customization options than ever, and that’s what we need.

Edit: we’ve been given a Battle Rifle with a classic zoom in and the Halo 2 BR is on the way, so it’s not crazy for us to think that they could add more weapon variants.

  1. Guns! Guns! Guns!!:

If we want Halo 6 to be better than Halo 5, more guns would be nice. Here is a list of returning weapons I believe should be in Halo 6, including some weapon ideas (not counting Warzone weapon variants)

Human:
Magnum
SMG
Assault Rifle
Battle Rifle
DMR
Frag Grenade
Incineration Grenade
Hydra
Rocket Launcher
SPNKr Rocket Launcher
Spartan Laser
Shotgun
Sniper Rifle
Railgun
SAW
Chaingun Turret
Rocket Pod Turret
Guass Turret
Flamethrower (Halo PC version)

Covenant:
Plasma Pistol
Plasma Rifle (H2A Multiplayer design)
Storm Rifle
Covenant Carbine (Short to mid-range)
Needle Rifle (Mid to long-range)
Plasma Grenade
Concussion Rifle
Plasma Caster
Fuel Rod Gun
Focus Rifle
Beam Rifle
Needler
Plasma Repeater (equivilant to SAW)
Energy Sword (and Prophets’ Bane)
Plasma Turret

Prometheans/Forerunners:
Boltshot
Perhaps a Promethean SMG? (the Oppressor maybe?)
Supressor
Light Rifle
Splinter Grenade
Sentinel Beam
Scattershot
Binary Rifle
Incineration Cannon
Splinter Turret
Maybe a Promethean Sword?

*Only if the Brutes return in Halo 6, even if they don’t return, the Gravity Hammer at least should return *

Brutes:
Brute Plasma Rifle
Brute Spiker
Perhaps a new Brute Assault Rifle? (The Spike Rifle maybe?)
Spike Grenade
Brute Shot
Maybe a new Brute Rocket Launcher?
Gravity Hammer (and the Fist of Rukt as a new Legendary Weapon)

Another idea involving weapons for Halo 6 is introducing different weapon variants. In Halo 5, we now have the crappy new Rocket Launcher and the good SPNKr Rocke is t Launcher, a welcomed return. We have the standard Magnum and will also get the M60 Magnum (Halo 1 Pistol). When this happened, I started thinking if we could do this for other weapons? What if we got the Halo 2/Halo 3 variants of weapons like the Battle Rifle, SMG and Particle Beam Rifle? Or perhaps the Halo: Reach Sniper Rifle and Shotgun? While this isn’t exactly “necessary” for Halo 6 to succeed, this still would be great for Halo 6 to do and I say it should be done.

  1. More Vehicles:

Same thing as weapons, but in this case, vehicles. Having more things to drive is great, so here is a list of vehicles that I believe should be in Halo 6, with one idea (again not counting Warzone variants of each vehicle, we’d be here all day)

Human:
Mongoose
Gungoose
AV-30 Kestrel (basically a UNSC version of the Ghost, look it up)
Scout Hog
Troop Transport
Warthog
Guass Hog
Rocket Hog
Scorpion
Grizzly (maybe a Mythic Tank)
Mantis
Hornet and/or Falcon (we want a UNSC air vehicle 343!)

Covenant:
Ghost
Spectre (We want this 343!)
Wraith
Banshee

  • Only if the Brutes return *
    Brutes:
    Chopper
    Prowler

Forerunner:
Phaeton
War Sphinx (this doesn’t need to be in the game, but if it does end up there, maybe it could be a boss in Warzone, don’t know how big they are so I don’t know if it could work)

  1. Plenty of Playlists at Launch:

This has only been an issue for me in Halo 5, I don’t recall ever having this problem in any other Halo game. Its simple, don’t have so few playlists at launch. We want our Arena playlists (ranked and non-ranked), we want BTB, Infection and Invasion at launch. Halo: Reach and Halo 4 got this right with plenty of game modes to play with at launch and different ways to play. Having plenty of playlists at launch is a must so things don’t get too stale. Now am I saying we should have every playlist possible at launch, no, but having “just” the right amout of playlist to play at launch (Not too much, but not too less) lets us enjoy the game more and for a much longer period of time.

  1. More New and returning Game Modes:

One of the problems with Halo 5 at launch was its lack of playlists and lack of game modes to play, even in custom games. We don’t even have an Infection playlist over a month into Halo 5’s launch and yet Halo 4 had an infection playlist “Flood” at launch. Halo: Reach is kind of Halo 5’s opposite. One of the best things about Halo: Reach was all its modes and features, so much to do at launch while as already stated, Halo 5 was lacking. We need to do what Halo: Reach did, we need plenty of game modes at launch.

Even if modes like Juggernaut aren’t too popular in matchmaking, at least being able to play them in custom games would be nice. Without Juggernaut, we would have TTT in H2A (seriously its fun, try it out if you haven’t already). Without Oddball, we can’t play Grifball. So having as many modes as possible would be fantastic. Here are the list of game modes I believe should be in Halo 6 (not including gametype variants like SWAT or Grifball, we’d be here all day)

Assault
Breakout
Capture the Flag
Dominion
Extraction
Headhunter
Infection
Invasion
Juggernaut
Regicide
Ricochet
Slayer
Stockpile
King of the Hill
Oddball
Race
Strongholds
Territory
VIP
Warzone

you know they would have to sell the game at like $120 to cover the cost to develop all that content right? actually I think more like $200…its not gonna happen.

I’m inclined to agree except with the more weapons part. Throwing in a bunch of useless weapons just for fan service hurts the sandbox balance.

  1. New Warzone scenarios:

With Halo 5, we only have two versions of Warzone, standard Warzone and Warzone: Assault, and I think that could be expanded upon. Reason for that is because Warzone at times can feel a bit repetitive and even boring, and this is to help remove that repetitiveness. One quick and simple idea for Warzone is when playing as a Spartan in Warzone, Sarah Palmer is the one talking to the player throughout the match. When playing as an Elite in Warzone, Arbiter Thel 'Vadam will instead talk to you throughout the match. With that said, here are my ideas for Warzone (including the pre-existing Warzone mode)

Warzone: Control
Traditional Warzone. Take down bosses and eliminate enemy Spartans (and Elites) to earn points. First team to 1000 points wins.

Warzone: Slayer
Traditional Warzone, but with no capture zones. Points earned only by killing enemy players and AI’s. First team to 250 wins.

Warzone: Invasion
A hybrid of Warzone: Assault and Invasion. Spartans vs. Elites. Two rounds, one as attacker and one as defenders. No vehicle or power weapon spawns. Power weapons and vehicles can only be brought in via Requisition. (As a quick note, I believe we should have standard Invasion like in Reach 6v6, and Warzone: Invasion 12v12)

Warzone: Incursion
This is any Halo fans dream come true, a hybrid of Invasion and Infection. Lets face it, YOU WANT THIS! Instead of Palmer talking to you ingame when your a Spartan, its Roland. When you’re the Flood, the Gravemind will talk to you throughout the match. To get a good idea of how it could work, check the video below (just remove ordinance drops and replace them with REQ items)

Keep in mind this was before Invasion was confirmed out of Halo 5 came out and before Warzone was announced so changes would have to be made.

Warzone: Firefight
Team up either with your friends or players from around the world to fight enemies in Firefight with Requisitions added in. Enemies could include Covenant, Prometheans AND Flood (yes Flood Firefight finally)

  1. Introducing new REQs and have all Requisitions earned in Halo 5: Guardians carry over to Halo 6:

This one is pretty much self explanatory. New REQs is a must, assuming that REQs are returning in Halo 6. New REQs could include different weapon variants, new mythic weapons and introducing mythic vehicles (maybe the Grizzly from Halo Wars) and overall new REQ cards. A few weapons I’d love to see is a Projection Battle Rifle, Projection DMR and Projection Sniper Rifle. The Projection Sniper, while having no scope could be excellent at hip fire like the Beam Rifle in Halo 4. Those are just a few ideas, but new REQ cards are definitely needed for Halo 6.

With all the time spent earning REQ cards, it would be a shame if people had to unlock everything all over again in Halo 6. If I earned the Prophets’ Bane or Norfang REQ card in Halo 5. I would like to keep it and have it brought over to Halo 6. It would suck if a player finally got what they wanted in Halo 5 after so long only to have to earn it again in Halo 6. Bungie is doing the same thing with Destiny, letting us transfer our stuff from Destiny into Destiny II, which is fantastic and is some 343 should do with Halo 6. So please 343, lets us carry our hard-earned REQs over from Halo 5 over to Halo 6.

  1. Firefight returning and/or a Spartan Ops Season 2:

Many Halo fans including myself were a bit disappointed that Halo 5 lacked both Firefight and Spartan Ops. 343 explained that Warzone was their replacement for both modes, but at times Warzone can be repetitive (see #12 to see what I mean by that). So for Halo 6, a return of Firefight and/or Spartan Ops would be appreciated by fans. Firefight could be expanded upon by allowing us to use our REQ weapons and vehicles, but I believe if they did that, we could use each of our earned REQs as many times as we wanted. So if you have 2 Prophets’ Bane cards left to use, they aren’t wasted in Warzone. If you have it, you can use it forever.

The same can be done for Spartan Ops, we can create our loadouts like in Halo 4, but we can have one power weapon as a secondary weapon. Again, if you’ve unlocked a weapon like the Prophets’ Bane or the Halo 1 Pistol, you can use it as a secondary weapon in Spartan Ops. I’d love to have my character have a DMR and Prophets’ Bane in my loadout. Amagine at the end of each set, players are pitted against bosses from tougher enemies to actual characters like Warden Enternal, Jul 'Mdama and the Prophet of Regret. Bosses in Firefight would be a great addition to the mode and would make it a lot more fun to play. So for Halo 6, having Firefight and/or Spartan Ops return would be fantastic (probably not both, but you never know).

Another idea I have for Firefight and/or Spartan Ops (if one or the other actually return is the addition of “Custom Fireteams”. This is basically pretty much Squads from Call of Duty: Ghosts, but for Firefight and/or Spartan Ops in Halo 6 if you don’t want to play alone. Basically you can make 3 other Spartans (or Elites) and choose their armor and loadout. You can only customize their loadout and armor with armor and weapons you’ve already unlocked. After customizing their armor and loadout, you can get your team a name and use them in Firefight and/or Spartan Ops. Gameplay with your Fireteam would be like Halo 5’s co-op where you can revive, be revived and command your team. Unlike most things on this list, this would be something brand new to Halo and I think most fans would love this feature.
Oh and if Spartan Ops does return and we can make Custom Fireteams with Elites, I feel Spartan Ops should be renamed “Infinity Ops” or something. Mainy because I’m tired of this whole emphasis on Spartans. Spartan Ops, Spartan Abilities, Spartan Rank, Spartan Companies etc. Its just so tiring of hearing it.

  1. Forge and File Browser at launch:

One thing that kept people from buying Halo 5 at launch was a lack of a Forge mode and file browser (mainly forge). Now I do understand the reason for no Forge at launch for Halo 5. 343 wanted to get Forge right and they wanted more time to get it right. I understand that and have no problem with them holding it off for Halo 5. But if they truly got it right, waiting again for Forge is going to suck for some. Now if they absolutely need to hold off Forge for Halo 6, fine, but I’d recommend having it at launch or as close to launch as possible.

  1. Better Theater Mode:

Lets face it, Theater has really gone down hill after Halo: Reach. In Halo 4, we lost Campaign Theater, in Halo: MCC, we also didn’t have Campaign theater (even for Halo 3 whuch has had it in the past) and lost the ability to record small clips. In Halo 5, we yet again don’t Campaign theater, can’t record small clips and now we lost the ability to take screenshots. It just keeps getting worse and worse and worse after each game and that needs to stop! Not only should it stop getting worse, it should also be better than Halo 3 and Halo: Reach’s Theater mode. For one thing, we need all theater features that were lost in Halo 4, Halo: MCC and Halo 5. Two, theater could possibly be improved by allowing us to merge clips from either different films or the same film. Another thing is we could possibly add music to our clips and add Words/Titles in front of our clips, this would make Machinima making even more easy and the only thing to add into it would be audio from the voice actors. So thats how you make Theater better.

Thats the end of the list, but here’s a quick recap (take notes 343)

• Have a great Campaign with great narrative and have characters properly depicted (like how The Arbiter was dipicted in H2A)

• Bring back Split-Screen, Invasion, playable Elites in multiplayer and high level of customization options like Halo 4, whilst adding new customization options like HUDs

• Customizable loadout weapons for Warzone would be nice (not necessary, but would be nice)

• As many weapons, vehicles, game modes as possible

• Have just the right amount of playlists at launch so the game doesn’t get so stale quickly, but not too many at launch so it doesn’t get watered down and have certain playlists like Invasion and Infection at launch

• Having new Warzone scenarios like mentioned and listed earlier would make Warzone infinitely more fun, enjoyable and less repetitive

• Have all our hard-earned Requisitions from Halo 5 carry over to Halo 6 (please 343!) and introduce tons of new REQs to collect in Halo 6

• Bring back Firefight and/or Spartan Ops (not necessarily both, but at least one or the other)

• Have an improved Theater Mode across both multiplayer and campaign (and Firefight and/or Spartan Ops)

• Improve the overall graphics (think DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront)

• And finally, have Forge and a file browser at launch

Well that is everything, if 343 does this (or at least most of it) I believe Halo 6 will not only succeed when it comes to game sales, but will be loved by fans of the series. Keep in mind when I’m talking negative about 343’s decisions like lack of Elites or worse Theater in each game, I’m not bashing 343 or anyone in particular at 343. I am just expressing my thoughts and disappointments about certain things. I don’t hate 343 or anyone at 343. So with that said, I hope you guys enjoyed my list. Adding attachments for your weapon would ONLY be for Warzone, not in Arena. Never Arena

To many playlist water down the population, just like to many weapons makes it hard to balance weapons.

Obviously not too many playlists, but like I said: just enough playlists so the game doesn’t get boring so quickly

No offence, but I’m not gonna read five pages of ideas, and frankly I like the new Arbiter armour more.

Besides that, every idea is okay from what I read in your recap.

But people want Oddball playlist, CTF playlist, slayer playlist, infection playlist, and they want social of all of them. Add in BTB and Warzone and it’s just too much. If we had the population of Halo 3 that would be great but we don’t. Which means the more playlist there are the more watered down it gets.

cool ideas, not much to disagree with! I want MOAR

Its nice to see something well thought out, personally i think too many playlists fracture the community and population too much, now having a social and ranked is a must. Aso i dont really agree with the weapon attachments, basically you just explained warzones system all over again except now you choose what is on each weapon. There is enough weapon variation that im sure the one that someone wants already exists.

  1. I never said anything wrong about the Arbiter’s golden armor, it looks awesome! I absolutely love his new armor, I just don’t like his physical anatomy change from an H2A Elite (which looked perfect in my opinion) to a Halo 4 Elite. One, its retcon, two, it doesn’t look as good as he looked (anatomy wise)

  2. I knew some people wouldn’t want to read 5 pages so I made a brief summary at the bottom, you can at least read that

How to figure out the right amount of playlists would be difficult, not not impossible. I, and I believe many fans don’t want a lack of playlists like how Halo 5 started. If we had at least had Social Arena, CTF (ranked and non-ranked) and Infection I’d think we would have be fine.

Aiming mechanics which are intuitive, predictable, engaging, and rewarding.

Eh, the playlist thing can be slightly increased I mean…

Oh yeah sorry, I edited my post after reading the recap after you posted the reply. I agree that the anatomy needs changing though.
