What Halo 4 needs to be more awesome

Something similar to this

Seriously, Reach really lacked in the humor, which for me makes Halo Halo.

While I like Halo’s humor (esp CE) I feel 4 looks a very serious beast indeed.

Lot of upset (cortana), character exploring (MC) and Evil intrigue (New nemesis, Didact? ect) going down in 4…

thats why we have the iwhbyd skull its optional

that video made me laugh so hard

‘I’m a real boy!’ LOOOL

OT: I would like to see a bit of humor, but a lot doesn’t seem right for Halo 4 because of it’s serious tone.

REACH was to have a more serious story to it.
I do agree we’re missing the comedy, hopefully it makes a bit of a return in H4.

It needs health.

As a long time Halo Player I have “reached” this point where I want to see the final kill via instant replay or something.
I also hope that they bring back the funnier side of Halo, Halo 3 was the funniest of the Halos and I want that feeling back.

thought this was gonna be a halo hate thread and just having a look but yeah, i miss the good ol’ days with the classic humour :’)

shame reach didnt translate covie speech

Watching the video now, LOL my god the grunts are hilarious.

Promethean Watcher to Promethean knight: " EHI! I just came out from your…back! That’s disgusting!"

PLEASE NO.

We have Conan doing some voice acting near the end of the game…what couldn’t be funny about that? xD

It’s time IWHBYD gets a revamp.

I propose the following.

IWHBYD
Effect on marines and Grunts (Grunts seem to speak in English in H4 when alerting): Funny and rare dialogue
Effect on Elites, Hunters, Prometheans (or pretty much everyone): Unique animations that make gameplay feel similar to CE (such animations could be deemed unnecessary by players during combat which is why this would be an optional effect).

Animations could include:

-in CE, when you stuck an Elite or Grunt with a grenade or needle shards, they ran around in circles or tried to get it off. Not necessarily funny but it was much more immersive than ‘oh look, I’m stuck. I’m just going to run at the cyborg and try to take him with me’ or ‘arrrggghhh!’
-in CE, when a Grunt fell from a big height but survived, when he landed, it looked like it hurt. In any other Halo game, when they land, they either die or they just do this tedious ‘meh, that was nothing’ landing animation
-Thirsty Grunt
-in CE, 3 jumping Grunts on PoA
-in CE, Elites could point at you
-in the H4 E3 demo, the Elite whacks the Grunt
-in H3, there was the -Yoink!- Brute
-in H3, Chieftains had an unused (afaik) chest beating animation (seen by modding)
-in Reach, there was the crazy trooper
-in Reach, there were dancing Hunters
-in every Halo game after CE, there was crate climbing AI. While it was stupid for Elites and Brutes, it was funny watching Grunts clamber up and it’d be ok for that to return

Think of the new IWHBYD as this. Half funny, half serious, yet imbuing both aspects with life and immersion. I think this would appeal to both sides (but mostly the players who want funny  I certainly want funny!).

Because currently, as of Reach, Covies are just a bunch of robots/feral Flood in disguise. They have no emotion. They don’t really care about each other. They can be careless about themselves!

What happened to the pissed off Brute berserking that was in H3 and especially in H2? Reach Brutes still do their berserking animation but they’re so damn slow… hardly a convincing act of rage.

What happened to the swarming that occurred when you killed the dual wielding Elites (in H2, in the Cairo bomb room, killing 1 or both of the dual wielders will cause all the Elites to come towards you, even if you hide in the elevator)? AI aggression was maxed out in Reach but killing the General on LNoS means nothing. Killing the Field Marshall means nothing. Killing the Elites on Nightfall means nothing. All it does is cause retreating behavior on the remaining Elites and Grunts. I have yet to see actual retaliatory behavior (other than kamikaze Grunts).

What happened to the Elites crouching at the dead marine bodies (in Reach, it could have been fellow Elites or Hunters or Grunts)? Even H2 showed the enemy side (Brutes would weep over their dead comrades if no enemies were around)!

My point is, a pure serious H4 is simply unacceptable. It’s a fact that H2’s story is far greater/stronger than Reach and yet it had funny moments (cowardly Grunt, Grunt saying ‘if hungry, eat Jackal’ as a scripted occurrence rather than IWHBYD effect, Johnson saying ‘it’s classified’, ‘would it help if I said please?’).

I really want H3 teabagging physics. Reach lacked that.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Halo being serious. But I think Reach misinterpreted “serious.” What we have now is a boring and dull color pallete that looks anything but beautifully alien and boring enemies that are nothing but obstacles. In previous Halos, the lighting and colors were bright and shiny, and to me looked much more realistic, especially for alien worlds with alien technology. And the humor of fighting these enemies made actual gameplay more fun, but the cutscenes were intense and emotional. Sometimes.

My point is, you can tell a great story with the little funny moments. The video I posted before isn’t how Halo 3 always played. Every once in a while you got a gem of a one-liner from a Grunt. But the story was still just as serious as all Halos, just with different plot devices than Reach.
