What Halo 4 armor are you?

I don’t think anyone will read this, but it’s worth a try

Most people change and wear armor exclusively for cosmetic reasons, but some of us like to wear armor reflecting our own Halo playstyle and personalities.

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor [GEN2] is the second system-wide generation of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor. This type of armor(s) have many, various armor variants and upgrades designed to prepare the Spartan IV’s for whatever combat situation on the battlefield. Each of these variants focus on different things and have their pros and cons. They may excel in some areas, but otherwise lack in another.

Air Assault - Utilized primarily by ONI security personnel on Earth’s and Luna’s space elevators.
Aviator - Recommended for use by Broadsword pilots.
CIO - A variant for Combat Intelligence Officers.
Commando - A variant for special operations.
Deadeye - Designed for snipers.
Defender - Designed for general area denial and tactical defensive abilities.
EOD - A variant designed to facilitate explosive ordnance disposal.
Enforcer - A variant designed for remote security base detail.
Engineer - A variant designed for repairing and reconfiguring technology in combat.
EVA - A variant designed for extra-vehicular activity.
FOTUS - A variant based on forerunner technology.
GUNGNIR - Upgrade of GEN1 model developed by Project GUNGNIR.
HAZOP - A variant for missions considered too hazardous for standard equipment.
Infiltrator - A variant tested on the orbital battleclusters above New Carthage.
LOCUS - A variant chosen for its resiliency.
Oceanic - Designed for combat in waterfront areas.
Orbital - A variant designed for EVA activity.
Operator - A variant designed to optimize vehicle operation.
Pathfinder - A variant designed for missions in intel-poor environments.
Pioneer - A variant designed for missions in new or hostile environments.
Protector - Variant designed for VIP security.
Raider - A variant designed with Samurai-like aesthetics.
Ranger - A variant designed for remote operatives engaging in hostile environmental conditions.
Recon - A variant designed for stealth reconnaissance operations.
Recruit - Issued to all SPARTAN-IV recruits.
Rogue - A variant designed for extended solo operations.
Scanner - A variant designed to aid search-and-rescue strike teams.
Scout - Designed for scouting operations.
Soldier - A variant tested at the Damascus Testing Facility on Chi Ceti IV.
Stalker - A variant designed to aid in covert shadowing of a target.
Strider - A variant for joint-combat excursions in isolated theaters.
Tracker - A variant designed to aid in long-range pursuit of targets.
Vanguard - A variant manufactured by Hannibal Weapon Systems for face-to-face enemy assault.
Venator - A variant that gained prominence during the defense of Concord and single-enemy fighting.
Warrior - MJOLNIR’s mainline armor kit.
War Master - Lethbridge Industrial’s most popular and most exotic armor.
Wetwork - A variant designed for assassination operations.

If you were a character in the Halo universe, what armor variant would YOU wear and use?

Deadeye.

Warrior. I wouldn’t say I specialize in anything.

> Warrior. I wouldn’t say I specialize in anything.

Recruit PRME and the full Warrior set (with the Recruit forearms) are two of my favourite armor combinations in this game. Since War Games and Spartan Ops is considered canon, my Spartan is technically considered “canon”, too and I would like for my character to be wearing a full set rather than a random, armor-cosmetic combination.

Spartan Thorne wears Recruit and Warrior armor, and I think of Fireteam Crimson as a parallel team to Majestic. So I think of my Spartan (me) in a red Warrior suit as a character kind of like Thorne. I’m kind of like him, too.

Fun Fact: the “Recruit” forearms in-game were originally the Warrior forearm. Or at least, whatever it would’ve been called. Point is, it likely would’ve been unlocked in the place of Twin Plates as your first new set of forearms.

If you look at the Spartan-IV NPCs and any member of Majestic except for DeMarco, you’ll notice that they are wearing a forearm variant that is not seen in-game. This is the original Recruit forearm, yet it seems it was replaced with the “Warrior” forearm late in development.

Yeah, I’ve also been told that the Warrior armor set was originally supposed to be the starting armor in the game. Really the only reason I bought the Halo 4 LE was for the map packs, nice skins, and because I thought Recruit armor was exclusive.

I’ve also noticed the “Forearms” thing, as I have tried to replicate the Spartan models in the NPCs. I was really sad that I could never have those forearm pieces on my Spartan in Halo 4 :frowning:

This isn’t the only case of cut armor variants in the game either.

Here is a leg variant that I believe someone in Majestic has:

And here is another piece of cut forearms.

It is likely that 343 wanted the number of forearm and leg variants to be equal, so they likely had to trim some fat so they’d end up with 8 variants for each armor type.

Edit: It seems that BOTH DeMarco and Madsen wear leg variants that were cut from the game.

As you can see, Madsen has the above posted leg variant, while DeMarco has one I haven’t seen before.

The design of Madsen’s legs seem to bear some resemblance to the Overlocking variant. DeMarco’s resembles the… whatever legs Palmer has.

Couple these two cut legs with the two cut forearm pieces, and we can see that 343 originally intended for there to be 10 variants each, not just the 8 we’ve got in-game. This was likely due to time constraints.

I like the Raider armor.

Cosmetically it looks cool.

Canonically its intimidating and almost scary if you get a nice color scheme (throw in a bit of dark red) right. If I was working in the front lines or attacking, I’d want the Covenant or Insurrectionists to remember and fear that armor.

Pathfinder

I like to solve things on my own.

LOCUS, baby. With the Orbital chestpiece. So great looking. It’s my primary kit in H4, and was what my S-IV wore as a member of Fireteam Crimson during the last days of Requiem.

Let’s try not to get out-of-topic, but darn, I wish that these armor pieces had made it into the final build of the game. I prefer their look over everything else in our current Halo 4 armory :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the info and pictures! Please tell me if you’ve got more interesting stuff on Halo 4

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind if Contoured got replaced by those two armor pieces I listed above. The “Recon” legs look pretty darn spiffy.

lol I wore Infiltrator
However, if I seriously take myself as a “canon” member of Fireteam Crimson, I go with the full Warrior kit with red and white as my colours, with the Legendary visor (Fireteam Majestic wore the Legendary visor).

Has 343 left Fireteam Crimson “anonymous” to leave the look of it’s Spartans to the imagination of the player? To give us an opportunity to picture ourselves in their places, kind of like how Bungie did with Noble Six in Reach? Or will 343 actually create real characters behind Crimson?

Just wondering.

Fotus.

I HOPE they don’t reveal anything about Crimson. Currently, I like to believe that my Spartan, Crimson-One, I suppose, was a former ODST and whatnot.

Honestly, half of the fun of Spartan Ops comes from “roleplaying”, at least for me.

Haha, at first when I started playing Spartan Ops, I couldn’t get myself to “role-play” because they were already a named Fireteam and EVERYBODY plays as Fireteam Crimson.

Now, I made up a backstory for my Spartan. Because I wore ODST all the time, my backstory was that my Spartan was a former ODST during the Reach days, and by the time of Halo 4, he was bumped up to become a Spartan-IV and “Crimson-Two” of Fireteam Crimson.

I just wish that everybody had the same colours in Spartan Ops Matchmaking. Fireteam Majestic all have blue and white as their colours with the Legendary visor - I wish Spartan Ops Matchmaking put each player in red and white, with the Legendary visor. It makes a lot more sense.

Rogue I’m a lone wolf.

Locus with infiltrator, stealthy…but can pack a punch

I would probably be Orbital. I’m not entirely sure what “Extra” Vehicular Activity is, but I like using vehicles. I also would probably be Venator and Rogue because I tend to be a lone wolf, and I usually try to avoid taking on more than one person at a time.

Kinda funny how the armor I chose because I thought it looked good actually matches my play style.

I like to be an ONI-affiliated spartan that’s capable of performing ONI objectives while in the middle of a huge battle.

I’m torn over what helmet to use.

CIO: Covert operations, but has a forced white color that I don’t like.

Recon: My favorite from previous titles but I think ONI has moved on to better designs

My chest is CIO, anyways my spartan’s preferential role would be either CIO or Recon.
