What Halo 4 and 5 needs

Innovation

I’ve been playing Class based progression shooters for the last 5 years it has plagued this console generation as did side-scrollers back on the NES and Sega Megadrive (Genesis)

Enough is enough.
Being a shooter doesn’t mean you have to go the typical way, please do something new with the genre for Halo 5 or at least give us some nice set-pieces in Spartan ops to keep us engaged.

I don’t want skill based arena shooters either, they’ve thankfully died out in the last few years which is good as there was a plague of them also a few years back.

INNOVATION
Add a new mechanic new concept something please. Ugh.
Playing the same games for 5 years is starting to feel like a drag, almost every shooter release has this typical CoD style of multiplayer, which was great, until everybody started using the concept.

Get rid of all the stupid over rated crap, or keep it but don’t use it as the foundation of your multiplayer.

Far Cry 3 did an interesting thing for it’s multiplayer.
The Winner of the winning team gets to choose whether to punish the top player on the losing team or let him go. As you level you unlock new punishments and new mercy animations, this alone gave me an incentive to level as it was… COOL … I don’t care if at level 20 i get recon helmet or at level 43 I get a DMR silencer, I DON’T CARE.

Do something new 343 please, Good Ol’ Halo isn’t the path to take. So many games have been ruined by generic additions.

RANT RANT RANT

You get to this level and then you unlock that and that helps you get that and then you get to this level and you can’t level up anymore.

Halo just needs to be Halo. But there are 3 things which should NEVER be added to Halo.

  1. Aiming down the sights.
  2. Prone.
  3. Weapon attachments.

If 343 added them I simply wouldn’t buy Halo 5 or 6. No debate is needed.

I wouldn’t even mind a change in tone of the multiplayer either, honestly.

I feel like now that the CoD way of doing things has saturated the market with these increasingly arcadey shooters, and it’s beginning to drag everything down. Yes, fast-paced combat has proven itself to be effective in the past, and even still to this day, but I feel like there’s an opportunity to explore a more tactical side to shooters that we’ve never seen flushed out in a halo game.

Halo ODST had hands down the best campaign, and I think that can be attributed to the tonality created by the atmosphere and the pace of which we were forced to play. It wasn’t just a mad, mindless dash to the end waypoint. You actually had to soak up the environment and it forced you to be more predatory in your decision making. Decisions had consequences.

I’m not asking for a splinter cell game with a Halo skin (could you imagine though).

One of the best concepts I’ve ever seen executed in a multiplayer game was scenario-based matches based on the map layout. Don’t make every map just the layout for various playlists, but design the maps AROUND the playlist.

Example: A capture the flag map, based on a normandy beach feel. Incorporate progression mechanics that keep the attackers fighting to make it to check points and detonate defender turrets and the like.

This is not an easy fix and clearly the formula they have does sell, and probably very well (I have not seen the actual numbers). It’s also hard to cater to die hard halo fans in addition to introducing new mechanics. It still has to feel like halo. But incorporating tired mechanics that have marked this era of shooter is not going to revolutionize any franchise. They have to have a hit with Halo 5, or they will lose a huge chunk of their audience.

Beat other developers to the punch, don’t play catch up.

Please step out of the comfort zone and experiment, or lose customers. It is that simple.

Halo 4/5 needs a ranking system to keep the game alive, not be boring and dull after playing the game for months to come.

As everyone can tell the population on-line is very low and i feel it is because of the lack of a ranking system. we need a ranking system that was placed in halo 2/3 or something similar where the game felt alive fresh and you had some type of incentive to play the game more and win.

This game also needs a ranked/social playlist to keep everyone happy as once before
