What got you jaded?

Just wanna see what’s the thing that got you jaded in Halo 5, if even briefly.

I just had a Warzone Assault match where I entered halfway into the Garage with red team spawn killing us, one guy got enough REQs to call for a Banshee Ultra, and by the time we reached the Core, red team had a full team of high REQ vehicles pinning the entire blue team down and we’re barely REQ 4. And that’s after a Warzone match where we lost 840-ish to 1000 because my team consisted of drooling -Yoinks- that appear to not know how to play the game aside from stealing Warden Eternal and treating it as Team Slayer.

Safe to say that I’m getting pretty sick of the Yoinked up limited design, and I’m even more looking forward to Game Modes that don’t require me to put up with cheap “legitimate strategies”

Getting splattered by the slightest tap of a ghost usually sets me off. Actually anything involving a ghost really. Nothing bothers me more than hearing that demonic hum followed by a “pew pew pew pew pew pew” and the chase commences.

The lag. I’m really disappointed that this next gen console and this next gen game still lags me out of a game, and gives the other team so so many free kills because my Spartan is just standing around while I’m either at a black screen, or some kind of limbo where the time stands still. It’s overwhelming. Almost every game I’ve played this occurrence took place in some fashion. Sickening.
I can’t remember anything like this happening to me in H4 or the MCC.

Try hards, bad map rotation, lack of maps, crap maps

The fact that matchmaking always puts me on teams that get curbstomped for periods of 10+ games at a time, the fact that I cannot work towards armor I want because it’s all tied to random numbers, the fact that I can’t escape bad teams by going to free-for-all because it’s currently a -Yoink-, the fact that all basic gametypes are ranked and stressful, the fact that the only “social” gametype involves the other team always spawning with weapons and vehicles leagues ahead of what my team has available, and the fact that all unlocks were clearly designed in a way that hurts the game, all so the developers could take advantage of people who are stupidly willing to pour huge loads of money into random reqs and that we let them get away with that.

The only thing that annoyed me was how literally poking a vehicle would splatter you, but they fixed that real quick. So I have no problem with this game.

  • All of the Warzone rounds i’ve played today have been on US servers. Not huge amounts of lag but it makes all the difference. Especially those extra couple of shots. Or that slight warping that causes you to miss, or maybe shots don’t quite register on time.

  • Awful REQ system leaves you in the -Yoink- when your team is losing. Random chance of unlocking certain weapons can give other players the edge over you.

  • Can’t hear vehicles until they’re on top of you.

  • Boring map design, not enough maps.

  • Weapon takes up a 1/3 of the screen.

  • FOV is like i’m wearing Horse blinders. Can’t see the random bits of -Yoink- strewn about your feet or a player stood right beside you.

  • Grenades are a players primary weapon. They’re also ludicrously powerful.

  • No grenade proximity prompt. I can’t even see the ground in front of my feet when i’m looking forward and the sound the grenade makes doesn’t come from any particular direction. How am i supposed to keep track of it while 1/3 of my screen is Battle Rifle and the rest is encroaching hit detection and flashing -Yoink-. All while wearing blinders.

  • Movement feels like trudging through mud. Jumping is especially bad, like trying to jump under water.

  • Useless radar.

  • Gunplay is drawn out too long.

I got a medal in a game of Arena Breakout just now, never saw it before, didn’t know what it was, Halo Waypoint doesn’t track it so I still don’t know what I did to get it.

My Halo jadedness started with Halo 2’ smg start and the woefully inaccurate at-launch BR (post title update obviously BR became pin-point accurate). Then my jadedness got worse with Halo 3’s AR start and BR spread. Reach was beyond a painful experience for me. When Halo 4 hit, I was just done with the game.

As for Halo 5. I really want to love this game, it got a lot right imo. But I absolutely can not stand the aiming mechanics. I am happy its working for some players, but for me, its unintuitive (precision aiming zone sensitivity drop making the reticle sluggish and unresponsive), its unpredictable (aim acceleration causing the reticle to lurch), and highly unrewarding (bullet magnetism). Halo 5 is perhaps one of the worst core point-and-shoot FPS games I have ever played. The only game worse in terms of aiming mechanics, was CS:GO for the console.

We will see what the December update brings to aiming mechanics.

Edit - I just read what’s being changed with the aiming mechanics. They are nice-to-have controller settings, but do nothing to address my issues with their aiming mechanics. I cant tell if this is making me more jaded about Halo or not. I grew a little bubble of hope for Halo 5, which has now simply popped.

The sheer stupidity of people in matchmaking. I swear the vast majority of people in this game cant find their -Yoink- with both hands, a road map and someone giving them verbal instructions.

I’m not sure if this is more being jaded or simply frustrated with the learning curve. I’ll be the first to admit I suck at Halo 5, and I do want to get better. But it’s hard to keep myself playing when I’m constantly getting wrecked in arena. It’s not a fun challenge to overcome and I’m really not sure what areas I need to address to get better, my aim, movement, map knowledge, etc.

It’s easily being jaded. A fun challenge is fun when you’re enjoying it. Having to deal with not only the frustrating competitive design of the game, but the elitist mentality it’s promoting by going all MLG Pro Gaming as a focus along to boot, is not something that should be considered fun. I can’t help but think that some of the people calling this “fun” are saying it on the basis that winning boosts their ego for some reason.

I just lost a UR RP Boost because my team happened to -Yoinking- -Yoinks- that couldn’t even recapture a single base, and our core got demolished after being base locked for 10 minutes on regular Warzone. There is nothing casual about this game, and 343 couldn’t prove otherwise, even when they sick their worst players on their livestream. Honestly, I have even less incentive to continue playing because of it.

I said this in another thread, I’m saying it here, I should not have to form parties or fireteams or whatever to enjoy a game. It has to stand solid on an individual level, and honestly I’m not quite feeling the return on my own investment with this game.

When after 2 days of playing halo 5 I had experienced everything that the game had to offer, and I just don’t have fun playing the game

so the only way to experience more from the game (unlocking reqs) is to grind away for hours and hours and hours playing a game that I don’t enjoy (mostly because of the terrible maps)

I was jaded after I finished all my placements in Arena - right before Thanksgiving. I was ranked everywhere from Silver I in Breakout to Onyx in Free-For-All and didn’t feel like I was able to win consistently in any of the gametypes anymore. Warzone felt too long and Warzone Assault would armory glitch every game.

After about a week off, I came back and something just clicked for me. I climbed from Gold to Diamond in Slayer and have been slowly climbing when I play other modes as well.

My advice guys is to take an extended break, play a secondary or tertiary game, and then come back to Halo refreshed and ready to have fun.

Needs more root with other game companies so we can see the relationship between the games and creatives. I have always wondered how indy companies related to halo might help me with get involved with halo in the easiest manner, but am short on connections, money, and time. Will talk more soon…

Nothing that didn’t already have me jaded three titles ago…

Every single match I play makes me jaded in one way or another. Every game there are multiple things that make me wish I could snap the disc and all of 343 in half.

They even said during the livestream that they weren’t having fun, and were visibly frustrated.

Aerial Melees/Ground Pound.

I am not playing anything deemed competitive until melee’s cooldown doesn’t affect GP’s activation AND I always melee before activating GP.

The ranged combat is fine enough, the CQB element greatly suffers… Most competitive settings have small maps and in Warzone/BTB, jousting vehicles isn’t fun.

I also am not really a fan of the new aiming system. The other Halos were fine, but I just can’t seem to get a hang of the new way aiming works, with aim acceleration. I wish I could switch it back. Also, I really dislike the low motion tracker range. With movement as fast as it is now, the range should be higher if anything.
