What features have been copied from other games?

I keep seeing people saying that they copied off of CoD and titan fall, but I haven’t actually seen any examples, just want to know what has actually been copied.

People will say ADS and thruster pack

Thrusters were in Halo 4, ADS is the one thing I hate about Halo 5, that and clamber.

Sprinting was obviously taken from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Sprint might have been implemented before SMB 3.

If anything, sprint in an FPS first showed up in Ultimate Doom (released in 1995). That’s at least one arena shooter FPS that I know from the days of old that has sprint.

Gun on the side of the screen GOLDEN EYE COPY
arena shooter QUAKE
no running on walls EVERY GAME

Super Mario sunshine was copied by 343
both have sprint
both have clamber
both have a jet pack
both have ground pound
both have thrusters
both are sequels to a game
Coincidence I think NOT!

Oh and you control something in game…343 copied pong

Sprint mechanics was implemented in Wolfenstein 3d in 1992. It actually resembles sprint in modern shooters in many ways: it limited mobility by not enabling players to sprint and strafe at once (which actually had more to do with the fact that early pc keyboards couldn’t register 3 buttons being pressed at once).

What people are complaining is “ads”, which is ridiculous, as it’s not that different than playing old Halo CE with fistick (or however it’s called in MCC) control scheme.

I remember it was possible to double jump in UT 2003/4 and catching edges was in Unreal 2 (2003). Also way the thruster pack works seems to be very similar to Unreal’s strafe jumping. Actually Unreal series was huge inspiration for Halo 1 and 2 (not only sci-fi universe, but also stuff like headshot-capable sniper rifle or dual wielding) as well, so I’d say everything is getting back on tracks.

All-in-all most complainers are uneducated and can’t understand how game’s developer isn’t as limited as themselves.

Yeah, shame people seem to forget that and instead give all the credit to COD:AW

That’s what I was saying Halo 5 is feeling like. I had mentioned in a different thread that it feels more akin to UT rather than CoD as what some people think. Thanks for putting more explanation in your version though!

Shooting guns in first-person.

The only reason things like smart scope and sprint are in Halo is because of Call of Duty, and you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Eh, still mechanically different.

Sprint-every generic fps
ads-every fps
thruster- CoD/titanfall (it may have been in 4 but not as a base trait, which titanfall and CoD did first)
groundpound-crysis
clamber-titanfall (a lot of fps games actually but titanfall would be the most known I thought)
holding in air- destiny (same as clamber though, in others, but destiny being most notable)
Ranking system- CoD ( that specific style of ranks)

Charge may be the only original idea 343i had. They wanna “innovate”? Do something that hasn’t been already done by someone else first. If you wanna just try to be the same as most other games, just admit it.

Ranking System- Didn’t they say Tier system ranking like Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Masters? Isn’t that StarCraft? lol

Imagine Bronze League Heroes Halo

It is not that these features were invented by call of Duty it is just obvious that 343 is taking features FROM Call of Duty in an attempt to steal fans. If they were smart they would know 99% of COD fans will never play a Halo game relgiously.

-Ordinance=Care packages
-Taking weapons off the map like in COD
-Perks
-Adding a powerful Automatic weapon called the SAW
-Sprint
-AAs
-ADS
-Loadouts
-I belive they even had weapon skins in halo 4
-Went to larger maps like iN Call of Duty
-Join in progress
-Took away the 1-50 and added progression system for Halo 4 like in COD
-Clamber instead of jumping now you jsut press A like in COD
-League tiered ranking syustem in halo5 just like COD

I could go on and on. If you don’t see that 343 is changing Halo to be more like Call of Duty then you are blind.

Ironically Call of Duty also uses a League type ranking system. Just another thing 343 is taking from Call of Duty

You are delusional if you honestly think Halo is turning into Call of Duty. Every single one that was listed here have been in many other games, using the “Call of Duty” card is not getting you anywhere. Call of Duty did not invent them, Halo did not invent them, so why are saying they are changing Halo into Call of Duty when that game was never creative or original to begin with? I dislike most of these ideas, but I am not going to call the newer Halo titles clones to another a game that also copied off those same features and mechanics from other games as well.

Guns, armor, aliens, vehicles cosmos, soldiers. The list goes on.
