What exactly is your plan for player retention 343?

343 made the switch to free-two-play in an attempt to compete with games like Warzone, Fortnite, Apex, Overwatch, and even Destiny. In the past Halo set the standard not just in terms of quality but features, I mean Bungie literally created the concept of matchmaking, game filters, and customization in an FPS game. Unfortunately, Halo was surpassed in these areas long ago (when Bungie left) and now can’t even seem to meet its own standards from a decade ago. For example, ske7ch said in his response that game filters were left out because objective based modes would suffer. That doesn’t seem to be a problem for COD and wouldn’t have been for you especially with all the new players you brought in with the F2P model. The issue now is that because you left out ALL of the core features (mostly created by Halo) that have been in FPS games for the past twenty years all these new players are going to look at this compared to everything else on the market and think that Halo Infinite is just a generic cash grab (rightfully so). So, by the time you actually get around to implementing features like game filter there’s a good chance you won’t have retained enough players to adequately fill all the obj. modes thus causing the very thing you claim to have been trying to avoid. This game launched more bare bones than most indie titles that are still in preview so the question “What has 343 been up to the last six years?” is pretty valid. I just hope you can flesh this game out soon before there aren’t any players left to play it.

The crazy thing is 343 is in such a position that they either have to essentially remove the monetization and fix the game modes or lose an absolute **** ton of players.

Ya know… the monetization wouldn’t even have been that bad if they weren’t being lazy about to cosmetics. I’m mean, the store prices are literally the exact same as every other live service game out there. The problem is that unlike others they aren’t creating new/unique cosmetics to sell. Instead, they are recycling old cosmetics (some of which are either in the BP or where at least advertised that way) and trying to charge outrageously for them.

Exactly 0% of the games you posted have a gametype filter.

Except Overwatch, they literally all do and OW still has the arcade for various modes so…

EDIT: as a matter of fact, as much as don’t like COD, I’d say they have by far the BEST game filter.

Summary

And thats where 343 f****d up. They promised us MILLIONS of customization options day 1 and then they turn around and strip us of the armor and customization we’ve had access to for like 20 years and sell it back to us for $20 or so a piece (colors included) and seeing all the backlash it put 343 in a spot to essentially remove the monetization and give us all the armor and customization options we were promised (essentially removing the entire monetization system) or lose a ton of players.

Unfortunate that it came to this, but I agree.

Actually, a good fix for this would be to just gift everyone the rest of the reach armor and colors that they’ve made and excluded from the store and reform the store with actual new original cosmetics.

Umm if they got rid of the predatory system I bet it would bring in a ton of players. Keeping them in will eventually hurt the game in the long term.
