What exactly does Halo feel like?

I’ve seen so many threads about this or does or does not feel like Halo. The question I have is, what does Halo actually feel like, what makes something Halo? And please don’t try to say something like no sprint, try to really explain what the Halo feel is. To me what makes something Halo is more thematic then gameplay oriented, Halo is what is in the universe not how the game plays. If we based Halo off only gameplay feel then Halo Wars would not even be Halo. So please share what you people think makes Halo feel like Halo.

Playing as Chief for the majority of a game, hearing him speak sparingly, but efficiently.

Thematic aspects do exist but there is indeed a core Halo gameplay feel. 30 seconds of fun and the holy trinity of guns, granades and melee. As long as you have that as part of the core design phisophy then you have a Halo game. Pure and simple. That is, of course, something that is valid for the core games of the series only. Thematic connections are the only requirement for spinoff titles such as Halo Wars.

From an objective standpoint, Halo is whatever the company decides it to be. To me personally, Halo should be a military sci-fi shooter with unique weapons, a balance between competitive and casual play, equal starts, good Custom Games, and most of all, fun.

Halo 3 and 5 are my two favorite Halo games because I have the most fun playing them. This is as simple as you can get.

It feels more like Halo than anything else. It has less of the traditional Halo feel, but it’s still very much Halo.

Though, ultimately, I agree with SpitFlame. Halo is whatever 343 and Microsoft want it to be, regardless of what fans think. If it’s called Halo, it’s Halo.

Halo is about everyone who plays it being able to enjoy themselves, be it the campaign, or multiplayer, or hell even forge or theatre, but the fact is Halo doesn’t just cater to the competitive, or casual communities, it tries it’s best to cater to both, this problem started with 4, which almost constantly catered to the Casuals, while Halo 5 caters SOLELY to the competitive players, repelling most casuals from Halo 5. I guess that’s what we have with MCC, but Reach had the best balance between casual and competitive, I hope Halo 6 will get the balance right, but Halo 5 feels far more like CoD/Battlefield than 4 ever did, mainly because Halo 5 took out all the “fun” aspects of the game, and what “fun” aspects it did retain were intentionally held back as post-launch content, which makes Halo 5 feel even less like Halo.

Like a 68 Chevy, a rootbeer float and lead paint.

Considering Halo changes from game to game, there is no real standard “Halo” feel.

A game

To me, it could be something about the designs; like the armor, weapons, vehicles, or even the environment. Something that for some reason brings back the feel I had for Halo dating back to the first Halo, or even Halo 2. Maybe some certain aspects about the design from the games.

Hmm… last time I checked it felt very thin and round, just like any disc. The case feels like plastic.

Anyways, read some of my more popular threads for how I feel how Halo should be.
