What does the "Upgraded Shields" Armour mod do?

Hi. Today I am looking for a genuine decisive answer on what the Armour mod does to increase your shield durabilty. Sorry to say, if you think you know, I don’t really want to hear it. If you have the mod yourself and have a lot of experince using it or some genuine numbers I’d love to know more.

I’ve seem a few posts where people say they think it gives you 50% more health. Which would be amazing, but after using it myself I seriously doubt it. I honestly can’t feel the difference. I’m still dying from sniper headshots, Shotgun blasts, plasma grenades, banshees bombs, fuel rod explosions, you name it. Frankly i can’t justify using it through my own experince, but I would like to hear of someone knows exactly how much better it is.

Thanks everyone!

I have both. I don’t use them. Because I noticed exactly what you are talking about. Same number of shots and I’m dead.

I’ve noticed I can sometimes take an extra BR burst in a duel, but its not 100% effective, kinda a letdown but it does need to balanced I guess

I’m glad that it actually doesn’t make much difference, since it would just be damn OP. Imagine if you could everytime survive one more BR Burst how gamebreaking that would be…
Maybe it’s only really noticeable when someone melees you?

I’ve got all 10 armor mods, and I ran with upgraded shields for a while as it was one of the first I unlocked. That being said, I believe it only gives you an extra layer of protection against normal munitions fire. A sniper headshot is still a sniper headshot, but it makes you able to take one extra shot from a pistol, br, dmr, so forth.

Ohh… I think that mod really works.

I’ve run across people who took two hits to kill with an energy bayonet, they definitely didn’t have overshield so maybe it was the shield armor mod.

First one I unlocked. Whenever I got shot in the body by a beam rifle I’ve noticed I still had like 5% of my shields left.
I unlocked a second armor mod that is a common instead of uncommon, and it increases shield and health recharge rate which I use since I can actually notice it.

It gives you just enough extra shields to survive a headshot with a sniper rifle. If you get headshotted with the sniper you will have somewhere around 1/10th of shield left.

it gives you a enough to make it so you’d win a firefight versus someone who didn’t have it. It gives about 20% stronger shields, just enough to survive a sniper headshot.

It’s a good mod for a user who gets into heads up fights a ton. I prefer Advanced Sensors as it’s just insanity.

Advanced Sensors is far more fun, couple them with silenced weapons and you’re essentially a ghost since nobody can see you on radar, and trying to pinpoint your location by sound is difficult when you’re using suppressed weapons.

Wrong. You can survive a sniper headshot with it which is COMEPLETE bogus imo. Its easily one of the stronger mods. It does nothing against brs and DMRs though brs have to be just a tad bit more precise on their bursts or they wont get the perfect. It helps against automatic weapons it gives you maybe a half second longer to live is all. it doest do much but it does enough to make it one of the stronger mods. Its funny because so far the two mods I feel are the strongest are an uncommon and a freakin common.

You might find that people can actually block Energy Swords and Bayonets. Timing a melee just as they hit you allows you to survive instant death and just lose your shields. This might be what you witnessed, also a fun tip (:

You might not notice the boost to your shields because by the time you get to REQ 5, everyone has also upgraded their loadout weapons. It’s useful, but ultimately the effect is a wash.

I don’t think other REQs do more damage…

I genuinely disbelieve you can survive snipers. After spending about a week with it I have died from countless sniper headshots. I think you are experiencing what Halo 5 needs tweaking; the Hitbox on Spartan’s heads is really off. I’ve gotten a lot of sniper headshots that should’ve killed people, but just count as a body shot. I know this isn’t a result of the Armour mod as the exact same player hid, recharged their shields and then fell victim to a headshot from my sniper. So I can tell you from experience that you still die from a sniper headshot.

No but they could be hitting you more often.

It creates even more imbalances in the game.

I don’t think so. It feels no different to when I don’t use it. I’m still only winning one on one gunfights less than half the time. It’s not giving me any real advantage in that particular field of combat. The other mods are way, way better. This can’t be upgrading shields by more than 10%. Which is basically a futile upgrade.

It would hardly be gamebreaking if it was balanced properly. Right now It’s downright useless. I’m not expecting to survive sniper rifle head-shots or stuck plasmas grenades, but one more burst of a BR would be good enough. Obviously you wont notice the difference when shot by a rocket launcher, tank, fuel rod or plasma grenade, so It’s not really a biggie. It’s only going to work in those rare one on one situations.
