Marines being a soft counter to air?
Air units destroy marines easy … how is infantry a counter to air?
It’s the whole infantry>Air, Vehicles>Infantry, Air>Vehicles

Marines do decent damage to air… air does not wreck them very effectively and they do more damage to air than air does to them. They are not a direct counter though. Engineer upgraded marines can do significant damage to air, especially in groups.
Think of it like Red-Yellow-Green where red is minimal damage and green is max damage like a direct counter (like wolverines against air). Most air is red against marines, but marines are more like yellow against the air. En masse, I have seen marines take down a condor that was not properly supported. Marines mixed with air can be effective anti air, and is sometimes better anti air than wolverines are. Especially upgraded marines.

All air units show yellow damage to infantry, not red which makes it 50/50??

In theory yes, but you can have more Marines/Grunts than you can air. And both finial upgrades add extra units to a squad which ups the damage output whilst at full health. Basically with a larger force; core infantry > air. With better results with final upgrades.

The issue comes down to numbers. A banshee costs 3 grunts, a hornet costs 3 marines (450 I think?). Either way, if your enemy is getting out an equal number of air to your infantry, that is a problem with your economy, not the unit.
If you look at unit cost, especially unit upgrades, it is much easier to get out 10 marine squads with rockets than it is to get 10 hornets with rockets. For one thing hornets with rockets require t3, so 1500 more power. For another they are 3 times the cost per unit.
10 hornets SHOULD beat 10 Marines because that just makes sense from a numbers and realistic standpoint. The idea of the soft counter is just that marines in enough number can hold their own against air as opposed to say equal population of scorpions. Soft counter in my experience just means stands a chance.
Of course the real counter would be your own air force, wolves/reavers, or leader powers
Good luck out there.

Only if it’s human air. Banshee’s are 40 at cap.
Now grunts they wreck air no problem.

True, but even in that example you can build reinforcements cheaper and faster than they could Banshees and would likely win that slugging match
