What does it mean???

I’m sure this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find a thread on it. What does Buck mean in the opening cutscene when he says, “I figure if God can hear how scared I am, so can everyone else”??? That is one of the most confusing statements I have ever heard. Like, I’m trying to decipher it, and explain why it doesn’t make sense to me, but just none of what he says in that sentence has any resemblance of a coherent thought. I award him no points, and may God have mercy on his soul.

Can you put it in context with the dialogue around it? It’s been a while since I’ve watched the opening cut scene.

Osiris was being briefed by Palmer to retrieve Dr. Halsey and to eliminate Jul 'Mdama if they have the chance.

He’s basically saying that he’s nervous about the mission. Tanaka’s asking if anyone wants to say anything before the drop, and Buck’s pretty much saying “if I say a few words, all they’re gonna be is about how I’m not sure about this.” He’s also saying that it should be obvious to the rest of the team, hence the “everybody else” part.

I get that he’s nervous and it’s obvious, but saying “if God can hear, so can everyone else” doesn’t make any sense. When you reference God hearing or knowing something, it’s usually because you’re referring to something that isn’t obvious or isn’t known by anyone. Of course God can hear how scared he is—and it just hit me what it means.

So, he’s been praying and everything he’s said in those prayers makes it obvious that he’s terrified, so he thinks that if he were to say a few words, everyone else would also be able to tell?

I don’t think it’s so much him “praying” but more like he’s saying “god knows how scared I am”. I never took Buck for the devoutly religious type. It’s more of a general saying.

He doesn’t see the need to pray to anything before the mission so he made a joke about it. This isn’t complicated.

That isn’t true for everyone. It’s also a tangent that isn’t appropriate for a video game forum. Let’s keep the discussion to Halo.

dude a lot of halo 5 dialogues doesn’t make sense the game had a horrible writer

I think he means that he is so scared that even god(who is faaar away) can figure it out. So, if his fear is so high that god can feel it, the rest of the team too
