All the recent posts about sprint vs no sprint, spartan abilities, and the evolution of halo caused me to make this post. I think people should go back and see what Halo really means to them. However, I know people (including myself) want to keep the same style of gameplay, in the sequels of their favourite franchise. But I also think that having fun trumps all other needs for the game. This is what Halo is to me.
- Unique online play, with emphasis on teamwork, vehicles, and unique weapons.
-Large sandbox, filled with fun stuff
- Stupid crazy custom games, where we choose the rules.
- Having friends over for splitscreen
- Intersting, in depth campaign.
I also know that this stuff does not apply to all people, (such as splitscreen). Im also on the younger side, starting in Reach. Sometimes I play halo 3 at a friends house, and its also very fun. I am by no means a halo vet, and I would be satisfied with the things above. What does Halo mean to you?

Pretty much as you said but with a few more
- Being able to be an elite
- No sprinting so that we can have actual good maps
-
Exploring amazing mysterious worlds that almost seem impossible as reality stands.
AA up the ying yang, with energy shields, with human and alien weapons and vehicles.
Literaly people have only recently started talking about the lack of AA in halo 5 and people try and make you feel like an idiot for liking it like theyre a republican and I’m a gay Mexican.
Halo 1-2 was all about being a super soldier that could have a shield to keep him safe and he could just run into battle like a juggernaut.
Halo 3-4 and reach expanded on that with abilities which to me was revolutionary to 1st person should and I think was the 2nd game to ever do it but I’ve never heard of the game that did it 1st but it at least was the 1st big name to have abilities.
At at some point vehicle combat became more of a thing as well.
I think keeping Vehicles combat in play is very inportant, as well
Halo is a game that I will always enjoy despite any changes.
Halo is a game that is underrated because narrow minded people hate any shooter that isn’t COD.
Halo is a game that has lovable, heroic characters accompanied by a massive plot.
Halo is, well, Halo.
For mp it is a fun, skillful shooter, where you pick up weapons and drive vehicles, the TTK is long and hip fire is mainly used.
Being a part of an amazing and intricate story that pushes the boundary of science fiction and fantasy. Do you know people who discovered Science fiction via Star Wars or Star Trek? Well I discovered the sci-fi genre because of Halo…heck I found an interest in playing video games and enjoying video game narratives because of Halo. So it means a lot and as a result I still rate it my number one favorite game.
I bought my first console - Xbox 360 elite 120gb when I was 10 or 11 years old, took me about 6 months to save up for and I got it cheap cause the slim was just released. It came with Halo 3 and Halo 3:ODST. Back then we had a 3G modem to supply the houses internet connection, with 12GB divided up between 5 people, an incredibly unstable 12GB at that. Due to this I had no online play, and I played the crap out of the campaigns on Halo 3 and ODST. Then Reach came along and I was amazed at the campaign and I played that came endlessly, completely offline. I once went to my friends house who had good internet and I brought my account on a USB stick and we played halo reach online for 12 hours straight, it was amazing. That account is colonel grade 3 now, and it was done almost entirely from replaying and replaying the campaign, firefight and forge. By then I was obsessed with the story, I got a copy of halo wars and learned about the story from there, read tonnes about what happened in the original two games. I went to a family friends property for the weekend who had their son’s old xbox original, I played Halo combat evolved start to finish in one sitting. I was devastated I could not play Halo 2 in time. When Halo 4 came along I was disappointed with the revival of the chief, I liked the character as he was in Halo 3 and didn’t like the direction 4 was taking. I finally got an xbox one last year and completed my first full playthrough of Halo 2. But then there was Halo 5. I was so angry with Halo 5’s story. I followed the advertising campaign religiously, every day I would google search ‘halo 5 news’. The advertised story looked amazing. The story of halo 5 was a huge let down to me, however I do appreciate the Halo 4 campaign a bit more now.
To me Halo has always been about a gripping campaign. And more recently an enjoyable multiplayer. I was unable to play online in the glory days of the older games however I am enjoying Halo 5’s online now. I like that 343 is trying to make a good multiplayer experience, but at the cost of a good campaign I think it is terrible. I grew up playing these games over and over and over again but it just sucks that I don’t even really feel like playing halo 5 through again.

Thank you for your response. Im in the younger category of Halo gamers (under 15), and I also wish I could play halo 1-3 (I know that there is the master chief collection but I cant really afford it).
Halo, to me, is a game where I can simultaneously both love and hate this community. That’s what a true Halo game is in my heart.
But jokes aside, interesting and creative maps, deep and exciting gameplay, focus on skill and teamwork, fun customization, endless Custom Games options, open-ended level design, epic lore, and a campaign that can make me cry (unfortunately only Halo 4 managed to do this).
To me Halo are:
• Long, beautiful looking, good story written campaign with boss killing, covies and Flood.
• Splitscreen.
• Firefight, fun gamemodes, custom game and a good MP (with Reach customazation).
• After-game lobby and ranks like Reach had.
• File share and a huge amount of all the Halo weapons.
• Music.
• Master Chief, Cortana & Arbiter.

I would recommend keeping an eye out for a preowned copy at your local game store. In Australia there is so many traded in copies that get sold cheap because the game had so much hate. The story of the original trilogy is what got me into halo, it is so superior to the current ones. Though the mechanics will be a lot clunkier than what you’ll be used to it’s a must for any halo fan.
To me, Halo is a game about playing as a super soldier wearing sleek, futuristic body armor while battling alien forces and exploring a mysterious world which, overtime, you found out it was a marvel of an anceint civilization who was technologically advanced than anything in the known universe. It is also a game where I like to mess around on some of the multiplayer maps as my custom spartan. I remember some of the merchandise Halo had back in the days more than ten years ago, and that had put a special place in my heart to this day. And that is what Halo is to me.
Halo is the Master Chief. Master Chief is the integrity of humanity. It’s why we’re all still alive you know. He’s really out there. Defending civilization and the prosperity of mankind that we take for granted. He’s the reason Halo lives on. We want to say because of the stories outside of him, or the games, but in our deepest heart where we store our heaviest secrets…it’s the Chief that keeps us fighting. He keeps the nightmares away in our children’s minds. He has given us all hope to defeat our own battles. To never cower down and face our biggest fears and do so with intelligence and fury. Chief is the reason we find light in the darkest days. That’s what Halo is. Believing. And believing in Chief. In ourselves and each other.

Everything you two said. Reach is where my journey started, I put countless hours in to that game. I’ve been here since 2012, Halo is what I really did during my teenage years. I was also able to go back threw the previous games and finish the fight. I’d like to add 2 more things to the list. What Halo means to me.
- A game that has a strong united community, where both devs and players help each other to make the game we love and put so much time in to even better.
- A game where there is a variety of things players can do, players can also make there little sub community’s around playing Competitive, Socal, Forge and many other examples.
For me Halo is team work, fun times in custom and social. And getting competitive with friends in ranked games.
A game filled with innovation and inspiration.
Used to build friendships and play with those friends as well as building an ever-growing community.
Full of story and beautiful game-play
Imaginative
and just fun.
