Ever since buying this game when it was released I’ve only ever played Forge. Of course, after discovering a year or so ago that Power Turret tanks are stronger than Grizzlies, I have to wonder, why even pick Forge? His UU is almost completely useless, (But I DID finally find one use for it) in team games Anders techs better, and Cutter arguably booms better and certainly expands easier. In 1v1 Anders surpasses Forge with a quicker rush and late game will have the added advantage of gremlins. All I can really see Forge doing is being a better defender in case of a leader rush. Correct anything that might be wrong here but where does Forge’s strength lie in?
Forge is a more safe sort of leader as in most match he is not particular weak but not particular strong either unless use correctly. Forge can be a real monster if left only as his heavy supply pads pay off in the middle game very effectively allowing him to possible double pump tanks for longer then anders or cutter. He is however strong on maps like chasms where he can easy double pump flamers claiming both hooks very easily-this work very well against Covy as it can take them a while before they can counter the early flashbang flamers. This works on other small maps too you can spam infantry into a covy base and it can be very hard to defend as long as the intial UNSC forge is quite large this is not hard for forge as it doesn’t take long to pump 15 marines or flamers within the first 5 min. Send me a msg on Xbox lIve Gt:cbenson1 I’ll play you in some skirmish games.
1v1:
Anders has advantage over Forge but Forge is better against covey than Anders, if you have trouble against brutes in 1v1 then think about using Forge, but since Anders is so heavily used you have to be able to deal with that.
2v2:
Forge is, in my opinion, the hardest UNSC to play in 2s (many others I’m sure will agree with me). Not only is he hard to play on the UNSC end, if it’s an expo map and you get click expanded it makes it harder for your covey as well. Bottom line unless you are 100% confident that you can hold off the enemy team for long enough for Forge’s heavies to start putting him way ahead, don’t use him. Also against pretty much anybody decent, 9 times out of 10 you will not have enough early game units to hold them off long enough, which results in you and your teammate taking a bunch of base damage and you having no way to even that out due to your lack of early units/tech.
3v3:
Assuming you are running UNSC/Covy/Covy which is what is normally run at 35-40+ ts, Forge is outclassed by Anders. The only advantage he has is the ability to go tanks better, but since 3s is very hog based, the only map this really helps him on is Deen. So really not much reason to use him here either.
Overall, the only playlist I feel Forge is viable in is 1s. Even then you have to know how to use him very well, since his early game is weaker than Anders, and if you let Andrs get on a double base and build up gremlin numbers and possibly get chain amp, you’re screwed.
Yeah I figured that cbenson guy was just rambling. Double pump flamers against covenant? Yeah great idea… until 6+ banshees show up. I don’t play much 1v1 but the times I do I have the most trouble against Anders and Arby. You can’t go hogs cause she wins that tech race, and you can’t go tanks versus arbi cause he rages them down. And you cannot avoid going hogs because there is always the possibility of suicide grunt rush, so you delay tanks.
I don’t play 2v2 and 3v3 I only play random team so there’s that range of bad newbie to decent player pool of teammates. I think the only thing i have found Forge to be good at there is, ironically, a better air rush on Deen and to harrass back reactors. Force AA units than switch to tanks while your teammates have (hopefully)started their own attacks. Or at least you have a Cutter about to get to ODST and play the stall game.
But it sucks that both Forge and Cutter are just not a viable choices pretty much at all in high level play. Maybe if grizzlies weren’t terrible he could have a scary late game and actually trade with Ander’s gremlin/tank combo. Meat shield with medic marines and let grizzlies plow through PT scorps and gremlins weakened by marines. Thanks for leaving the game imbalanced Robot…
Actually what cbenson said is one of the best ways to beat covy as forge on a small map (chasms or pirth). A double pump of flamers will destroy anything they have before banshees and secure all the hooks on the map for you. As long as you’re quick about it you can get a large number of flamers on their base and they won’t ever be able to get a summit. Even if they are able to get a few banshees out use your surplus of cash to get a vehicle depot and get tanks/wolves and win. If you can’t get on their base before they have 6 banshees out then you’re really bad. Forge vs Arby in 1s, you can go tanks but you have to be aware of where the arby is at. Until you get canister you’re tanks are very vulnerable to an arby, since the only way you’re going to kill him with stock tanks requires you to throw a d-bomb.
> Yeah I figured that cbenson guy was just rambling. Double pump flamers against covenant? Yeah great idea… until 6+ banshees show up.
Nah, he knows what he’s talking about. He’s talking about the early game, before Banshees are a thing. The idea is to hurt the Covy with the Flamers so that Banshees aren’t a threat early enough.
In 3’s and even 2’s, what you say is often true because a teammate can make something that the Flamers can’t handle without delay, but in 1’s when Flamers hurt the enemy, they hurt the entire enemy “team” so something like Banshees get delayed.
Double Forge + Prophet/Arby/Brute can perform one of the most brutal cheese strategies in 3s. It’s no good against decent players, but both Forge make nothing but supply pads and feed the Covy player who goes Temple, factory, factory, supply, supply and pumps Wraiths none stop. Honestly, if they don’t scout it ASAP and put serious pressure on the Covy base it’s over before they can say “Hax0rs”! Full pop in 6-7 minutes, upgraded to Scorch before the 8 minute mark. Seriously boring for the Forge players mind you…
