What do you want to get out of CSR? Without trying say the kind of ranking system you want or think is the most ideal… what do you want the ranking system to give you?
For me I would think these three things are the most important things I would like.
-
Matchmaking: Accuratly places me into matches that are challenging. I don’t want to stomp on children nor do I wish to be stomped upon by pros.
-
custom games: when we get friends together and must pick teams, it would be nice to have something to indicate how we compare to each other. At the very least, something we can check in game (in the service record would be more than enough

motivation. Progression ranks like in Reach and Halo 4 work well on me… But I see myself bored when those things are achieved. However a skill based system means I will likely never attain max rank. A skills based system mean I never reach the to of a scale because I am human and will never be able to perfect in my numbers… Thus always have room to improve myself

bragging: nothing short of my rank by my name can really capitalize on this Wand
A system that doesn’t reward the losing team hence the 1-50. But People don’t care because the Progression system rewards them for losing anyway. I however don’t like it.
Ranked and Social playlists
I don’t really care for one, but if implemented make it similar to reach’s arena, More towards Personal Performance, rather than ELO which should never be in FPS. True skill is Personal Performance I don’t care what anyone else says or thinks.
That’s how it should work and I don’t need a number next to my name to tell me how good or how skillful I am.
What I want is simple. Give us a ranked playlist section where each game type has its own 1-50 score, rewarded by winning (Halo 3). Also make a social playlist where the current SR system is involved, independent from ranked games. I don’t see how this could make someone unhappy
I want points 1 and 3 from the OP. The H3 system seems best to me. Win - rank up. Lose - rank down. You win and lose as a team therfore the best player on the losing team is still a loser.

And look how that turned out.
I wouldnt mind if Halo 4 copypasted the league system from StarCraft 2. Just imagine the challenge of getting out of bronze league.
I liked the whole “ratings idea” in Reach’s Arena.
I just didn’t like how much it valued kills and didnt “de-value” deaths. Because kills out valued deaths in Arena… The highest rated player on the team was often the reason why my team would lose. That system rewarded the idiot that would run in and trade kills. If I got 10, 8 deaths and 5 assists… Why does the idiot that has 13 kills, 15 deaths have a higher rating than me?
Win loss rankings where great in Arena, but only if you play with the same team over and over.
Personal rating… I can trust it as long as the emphasis is rewarding kills, assists, distractions and other medals… While punishing deaths.
Not dying, keeping teammates alive… That’s what felt like a good game. Not “oh yeah, I ran in there and killed one before they got me”
