What do you want from a progression system?

The current system would be fine if the challenges were more generic. Instead of “get 5 kills with pulse carbine” have “get 5 kills with rifles” instead of “earn x personal score in x Playlist” have “earn x total personal score”

I’ve got all these awful Last Spartan Standing challenges so i wasted all my challenge swaps trying to get the other challenges to sync up. In LSS I literally can’t get Pulse Carbine kills, or personal sore in Fiesta. Just trying to maximize my earning with my double xp. It’s bad enough you’re forcing me to play LSS which i don’t like for the 2nd week. Either having dead challenges or wasting swaps is incredibly frustrating.

I honestly played more Infinite after i maxed out my Battle Pass in season 1 because i didn’t feel pressured by challenges. These hyper specific challenges leach the fun out of an otherwise great game.

Combination of all systems is essentially what we have for MCC, and it’s been really well received:

  • Per Match scoring, based on performance
  • Weekly Challenges are simple to complete but will require playing matchmade games or Campaign challenges
  • Seasonal Challenges to be completed over the course of the entire Season
  • Event Challenges which is available at all times during the Event period and not staggered like Infinite’s

With all these systems already tried and tested, it baffles me as to why Infinite’s system is so ridiculously anti-fun/fair in comparison. It’s not even an exaggeration to say that Infinite’s challenge system was designed to infuriate players into spending money on Challenge Swaps.

I love the idea of a progression tree that all players can progress to a high level in different areas more catered to their playstyle.

What I’d like to see for the progression system:
-Overall Rank (XP)

  • 1-100 prestige
  • unique cosmetic every 10-25 levels
  • challenge swap rewards every 2-5
    -Challenge Rank
  • could include skill challenges
  • total kills
  • kill style i.e. melee, snipers, vehicles.
  • wins in different modes
  • rewards could include unique cosmetics and xp towards Overall Rank

Would be cool to see them reward both time commitment and feats of skill. If they just ported over previous armor sets they could sell and cover rewards for 1000s of levels. specially if they keep the armor coating style alive.

I FULLY agree, I think the ranks should be based on how well you do! Someone that has played 20,000 games and won 10 of them shouldn’t be ranked a general when a person who has played 1,000 games and won 700 is ranked the same. I also wish they’d bring back actual ranks, (corporal, captain, general, etc.) not this (silver, bronze, onyx) crap. It seems like every time a game gets super good (halo 3) some new company comes and ruins it. Lets be honest, maps of halo 3 were 10x better than this stuff were getting now too…Sandtrap, Valhalla, guardian!!

I think you are mixing up the XP ranking system with the ranked system.
The XP system was corporal, captain, etc. and is not based on your skill, but on the amount of XP you have collected (and that is partly the amount of matches you played and part how well you did in those matches). That system is also meant to show who are loyal players and gives you a bragging right based on that.

How good you are is the ranked system, what now is bronze, silver, gold, etc., but that used to be just a number: 1-50. I personally like the coloursystem more then just a number.

Those systems could (just like in MCC) coexist. So the militairy ranks for the loyalty/XP rank and the coloursystem for your skill rank (how good you potentially are)

It capped based on skill. So a level 20-29 would be Captain grade 1, 2 and 3, then Staff Captain. No matter how much exp they gained they could not surpass that rank. Once they hit skill level 30 they would rank up to Major with whatever grade that corresponded to their exp amount.

There were new ranks at 10, 20, 30, then every 5 up to 50. So a player could have 10,000 exp and still be a relatively low rank compared to a higher skilled player.

Tracking to work and be done so in match not after when the server drops and i get no unlocks.

You could even go as far as having a branch within ranked…. Slayer/assist/objective twigs!

Possibilities are endless…!

I know 343 want to nail it but I’m not going to hold my breath for what they do release. If I don’t think about it I can be pleasantly surprised when it’s out in the wild!

5 credits per match, it’d take 240 matches just to be able to get one of the 1200 Credit large bundles, of which I think there are like 7-8 of in the files now on top of the other varieties of bundles.

Sounds like a hell of a lot of free player retention to me especially as they keep adding cosmetics.

I’ve said it before. There’s no reason it shouldn’t be like CoD’s system. You should have a rank and a battlepass BUT you also get points towards the battlepass for match performance wins etc, and the BP is supplemented with challenges like it is in cod and now. 343 are just being either 1) greedy and want to sell as much as they can or 2) are just lazy.

I think they’d still make plenty of money, its just enough where people would likely have some credits and feel like they don’t mind buying stuff in the shop, even if they didn’t have enough credits for a bundle and had to pay for it, the credits they already have would function as a discount. Also, 5-10 based on performance so there isn’t an abundance of AFK players (realistically with any type of progression system this will always be a concern)
Lastly and - arguably - most important, it would provide a way to earn things by just playing the game (something even H:5 had). It would also earn 343 a lot of goodwill with the community,
something they seem to be in dire need of. Additionally, It would eliminate the stigma in the community of using items purchased in the store. Currently, when someone is using customization they paid for, no one looks at that and says, ‘wow they must play a ton’, instead they think ‘ughh this guy’s a whale’, or whatever else.

It needs to be based on wins/losses and personal stats (weighed against the other teams stats as well but once the ratings are stabilized, that shouldn’t matter because you’re playing against people with similar skill level).
If I do very poorly but my team wins, I gain a little for the win but lose more for my personal performance. If my team loses but I went 25&7 with two captures, I’ll lose a little for my teams loss but gain more for my personal performance. It’s comically simple.

Win/Loss is a standard point value, let’s say 5pts.
If I break even, 10&10 and the opponents are similar skill levels, maybe gain a few points, say 2-3? If I break even but my opponents are all substantially lower than me, I’d lose points.

Similar to how chess ratings work. I’m around 1600 right now on chess.com. If I win against someone with the same rating, I gain 6-8 points. If I win against someone at 1800, I gain 11 points (and they would lose 11). However if I lose to that 1800, I only lose 4-6 points. My opponent was substantially better so my penalty is mitigated and vice versa.

I want MCC Tokens.
I level up? Give me a Token.
I complete a basic challenge? Give me a Token.
I complete a more challenging one? Give me Two or Three Tokens.
I was the top scorer of my team or of the FFA match? Give me a token.
I complete the weekly ultimate challenge? Gimme 5 tokens!

Let us trade Tokens for items in the shop so that Grinder players can earn cosmetics as they please.
Meanwhile players that are cash-cows can still spend money on Credits to spend on cosmetics.

Basically, rework the shop system to be something more akin to Rainbow Six Siege.
343 still gets their money.
Players still get their happiness.
