What do you want for Spartan Ops, Season 2?

I’m very much looking forward to the next season (assuming there is one; I hope there is) but I want something more than just new maps and new missions.

One thing I really want to see is new vehicles. Unless the Broadsword or Pelican can be brought Spartan Ops as drivable vehicle, I’d like to see the return of the Hornet or Falcon. The Covenant also need some new ground vehicles, like the Revenant, Spectre, Chopper, and AA Wraith.

You see, episodes 6-10 had a lot of the Ghost and Warthog, and during these missions I couldn’t help but think “I wish I had more options”. The Gauss 'Hog and Rocket 'Hog only appear in ONE mission in the entire first season, and the Covenant only have 3 vehicles, not counting the incredibly useless Shade Turret.

EDIT: From what I’ve heard, it IS possible to add things like new weapons and vehicles, but ONLY for brand-new maps. Unless someone from 343i says otherwise, it should be viable for any new maps in the next season of Spartan Ops.

There’s also a matter concerning weapons; I liked it better in episodes 1-5, on missions like “The Didact’s Gift” where you had massive stockpiles of ordnance, with plenty of ammo crates to refill your loadout weapons (and even some ordnance weapons like the Railgun and SAW).

Episodes 6-10 all too often forced me to rely on Covenant tech; I hate being forced to throw away my favorite Battle Rifle, or DMR, or Light Rifle because there’s no way to restock on ammo aside from getting killed and respawning. What happened to those ammo crates spaced throughout the levels from before? They’re much more scarce in episode 6-10.

I also would very much like to see some new locales; the first season took place almost exclusively on Requiem, with just one episode set on Infinity. Why not take us to one of those colonies we saw in the Majestic and Crimson Map Packs (Skyline and Shatter, for example)? Or how about Installation 03? Maybe a Covenant installation, like that Scarab factory we saw on the “Assembly” map in Halo 3’s Mythic Map Pack? Or how about let us board a Covenant ship? Just a few ideas.

That’s just some of my thoughts on the future of Spartan Ops. What do want to see? Got any ideas? Share them.

I’d like to explore the Infinity more, maybe drive the Broad Sword into a space battle alongside some frigates and stuff. Something cool and unique

No more reusing environments over and over again, but I’m sure that is aiming way too high.

> No more reusing environments over and over again, but I’m sure that is aiming way too high.

Yes that was terrible back tracking, but I would be okay with reusing environments so long as they only do reasonably, like if we cleared out an enemy base once why are they pack their again? They should add a Broadsword mission for the first chapter for season 2. Also try not to make Crimson have to do everything it feels like everyone is incompetent. It is so silly like in the videos Fireteam Majestic is pretty awesome, but when you play as Crimson its like they can’t do anything right.

I’d like to see a Broadsword mission, as well as the vehicles in the Mega Blocks leak.

They can’t add new vehicles or weapons. That would involve writing new code and creating new animations, along with creating an update that would be able to support the new code and animations. Sure, its possible, but its not logical. 343 isn’t going to waste time and money on something that doesn’t accomplish much.

Personally, I’d rather see a Pelican mission or a Broadsword mission, as those are possible. I’d be fine with reused environments, but they need to do it differently. How about creating a large map, and then having us go to a different section of that map each time the mission is reused. It would add variety.

Less buttons to push :stuck_out_tongue:

More levels like the Infinity missions.

“Crimson get to the server room!”

“Crimson, we need you to get to the server room!”

“The bad guys got back into the server room, get back in there!”

“Um…Crimson? Yeah, server room again.”

Make it based on Installation 03.

I think they would. A lot of people have been asking for a UNSC aircraft, and anything they could add to future Spartan Ops episodes, they could probably add to future DLC maps as well.

Hmm an “All of the Above” selection would have been good to have.

We can definitely expect new locales as Requiem is toast. New vehicles? Maybe. The new Mega Bloks Halo ONI vehicles might show up. If so, that would not only be very cool, but would bring a very new twist to the story. These are ONI specific vehicles. I can easily see where this would come into play.

As for not repeating maps, that is very unlikely. Getting a 10 episode/50 mission season MUST have reused maps. You can’t expect 50 new maps per season. WEll, not without paying at least as much for a whole new game. Is that feasible then? People already complain about maybe having to pay 800MSP ($10US) for a season 2. Come on folks, that’s a drop in the bucket compared to what we got for FREE in Season 1. I’ve already compared SpOps to Reach’s Firefight before, but for the sake of it, here is a brief synopsis:

Halo Reach: 10 FF maps over the course of 2 years. Some we had to pay for. Same game types over and over again.
Halo 4: 15 LEVELS (not just a small/medium Map) at launch FOR FREE. Reused levels provided different play experiences, mission objectives.

The proof is right there that SpOps is better than FF (this coming from someone who LOVED FF in Reach). I really didn’t mind the reuse of maps/levels. I can see how it was necessary. If the cost of season 2 is between 800-1600MSP and we get yet another 10 episodes with 5 mission per episode, it will be TOTALLY worth it.

As to where we would go? Hmm, human colonies, covenant worlds, Halo rings or other installations…The opportunity is endless here.

New enemies? Hmm, unlikely except for possibly a new Covie to find and kill ala Parg Vol from Season 1. As for Promethean? Well that would be tougher to introduce as they were the Didact’s minions. However as stated we could find new Forerunner installations that could have Prometheans on them.

I for one would love to see Engineers again. Not a new enemy, but a good choice for a reintroduced “race.”

New locations, definitely. Maybe better dialouge as well. Less repetition in missions. And just little things. Like when Crimson was captured and the other three got to watch one spartan assassinate that elite. That was interesting. More cinematics would be greatly appreciated.

Option to turn on checkpoints (sometimes, infinite lives can be useful, like when exploring outside the map).
Skulls.
Theater support.
Scoring.
Less ‘kill everyone in area to progress’.
Co-op scaling.
Solo scaling.

> The proof is right there that SpOps is better than FF…

Yep. I only played ODST firefight maybe 2 times online and I rarely played Reach firefight (except for Cr).

Additionally, bringing back some firefight playlists, especially score attack, would be fantastic. SpOps is fun, but i dont feel that it necessarily replaces firefight.

I agree with everything you suggested Sliding Ghost

> not counting the incredibly useless Shade Turret.

I wouldn’t say that.

In E3C5, if you camp at the top of the Forerunner structure, let the Elites keep manning the Shade turret. There’s sufficient cover for you to headshot them without taking damage. Easy Elite kills!

Yeah we need more creative vehicles than giant vases spewing Wraith mortars.

That’s an exaggeration isn’t it? The ammo crates are still there.

BUT I did notice there was a noticeable lack of precision rifles at the top of the grav lift in E9C5.

Before anyone brings up that the map packs would need to be downloaded by everyone in the lobby, keep in mind that Spartan Ops maps are not the exact same as MP maps. That’s why you can still get out of SO Complex (afaik).

Of corse there will be new locales if there is a second season, thats a given. I’m hoping we get new enemies for Season 2.

More maps, a greater diversity of objectives, basically I want a continuation and evolution of the improvements offered in episodes 6-10.

A space battle with the Broadsword at one point. Also a Pelican mission (anyone else feel like the Pelican in Shutdown was underused?), maybe rescuing marines/spartans and evacuating them?

More locales are a given. Requiem’s gone, so we’ll need new maps to fill the gap.

For enemies, I’d love to see a Scarab again (not the Harvester) but otherwise no. Besides, new weapons, vehicles and enemies would be hard to integrate without an update.

Also, less ‘kill everything then go here/blow this up/press button’ missions. They started to correct that in Episode 6 (in Chapter 3, the option to call in a Covie airstrike if you’re quiet), but I haven’t seen that since. Maybe a mission that revolves around being stealthy, otherwise you get faced with a massive onslaught of enemies.
