This was a very sudden and long thought I had in reply to Fossil Miners78’s topic of “What if Halo had…” and well I actually just wanted to know what other people thought about the idea. Now I know it may not even be possible (for Halo 5 or maybe any future ones) but the idea itself I wonder what other players think of it. So here was my sudden idea:
A matching playlist of a large scale map (I mean like 3/4 New Mombasa size from ODST) where the two teams are Spartans vs ELITES, like Warzone with capturing locations but like way more (like 7 or 9) that are spread out, and the two teams only use their faction weapons, Forerunners are neutral and attack both team, objectives are to capture all bases to drive the other team out of the city, side objective is for the Spartans to find a way to get Cortana to put the Forerunners on their side, and the Covenant may find a way to contact Warden Eternal to put them on their side. No or extremely high score to win (like 10,000) and well it be at an hour time limit.
Man I can’t imagine how big it really could be. No in size, but talking about the effect it could cause in how people see multiplayer gaming. Your idea is fantastic.
Sounds interesting, but implementation would probably be difficult , we have people dropping off for 20 minute matches let alone one or ones . But I’m gonna go with need salt .
Sounds amazing, would need at least 8 more players a side though and server demands would be insane.
The idea seems fantastic
but there are a few problem to implement this idea:
- Map “size”. Like actual size in GB, with all the details, AI, scripting… I guess it would have about 10+ GB, just too much for one map
- Servers. if you want to have BIG teams, I think 343i/Microsoft needs way better servers. They can handle 24 on dedicated servers, but more (for that map size I would think of 20v20 or something like that)
- The players themself. How many people actually want to play hour long games with no pausing? There would be a huge amount of quitting. You could do join-in-action, but what if you join a game, have to play for 20+ minutes before the match is over, but you have absolutely no chance to win it?

Hey thank you for the compliment Marco! And thank you for the actual technical things behind my idea too. Yeah I kinda knew before how drastic and too large my idea was it would not really work for Halo 5 and it is a very very very niché group that could fully engage in the game, but the fact you thought of how it would technically work, I really appreciate you thought about my little wishful idea so seriously! So really SCT 13 Marco thanks for the reply!
Now in your own opinion (which I now place on the level of Einstein haha) would it be a possible idea if they created a game to support it? Like if tgey later create a second installment of ODST and this was the multiplayer expiernce designed for it?
It would be a lot of programming that would have to be put in and a lot of time, but it would be awesome.
This is an amazing idea. If only 343 could make it work. I would probably be on this mode most of the time.

Hey thanks fellas! And yeah it would be a very major project and risky in any game really, but i appreciate both of you like my little halo fan dream idea haha XD

Salt? Im sorry but what does that mean?

Yeah the programming which to me is practically magic haha would really be a big task.
It does sound cool, but would be better suited as a co-op mode where the spartan’s are the players trying to accomplish what you laid out. As another person commented on this thread, hour long matches aren’t the best match for a multiplayer game type. But when treated like a raid and the group of players commit knowing the time it would take it would be very do-able for groups of like 6-10 players.

I like this one too, but bluntly I think it would dilute halo abit. We already have that sort of thing in Warframe.
