what do you think of the new sound team, composer?
I think they’re doing a fantastic job!
Loved the sample track they gave us a while back; I have high hopes for this aspect of the game as well.
Halo 4 is shaping up to be a seriously fantastic game.
Honestly…It’s a disgrace to Halo.
Until I can hear more and actually play along side the gameplay, it’s an abomination to the community.
I think the little we’ve heard is awesome. Obviously it doesn’t beat Marty’s stuff but I guess that’s because Marty’s amazing scores were tied to memorable parts of the game. I have high hopes for Halo 4’s soundtrack.
I’m gonna get stoned for saying this, but I’m going to say it anyway: It’s awesome to some extent, but it doesn’t sound like Halo.
If you would ask me what it sounds like I would say, tentatively, “Mass Effect”.
Halo is all about emotions. Some other game soundtracks beats Halo in terms of action music or ambient music, but I would be hard-pressed to find any game soundtrack - maybe even any movie soundtrack - that conveys emotion as well as Halo. Need an example? Unforgotten, Heroes Also Fall, Rain, Before the Fire, Ashes - for starters. Nowhere in the pieces released so far do I hear the same emotional depth. It’s just standard action music. Yeah. With some electronics thrown in.
Even the older soundtracks’ action music have emotional depth - they all told a story, and they all sounded unique. So far, the Halo 4 tracks I’ve heard don’t tell a story. They don’t sound unique, they don’t scream “Halo”. Like I’ve said, when I’m reminded more of Mass Effect than Halo… that’s a bad thing.
That said… I’m full of hope for Halo 4 and it’s new soundtrack. I’m confident Neil Davidge knows Halo well enough to understand how to have a Halo soundtrack made well. He’s said that he’s created over 3 hours of music, and we’ve barely heard 10 minutes of music in total so far. There’s definitely got to be more than just this, so I’ll reserve judgment for when the game comes out. I hope I will be proven wrong, and not be disappointed.
The samples already sound better than this boring Reach OST (worst OST IMO).
Halo 4 OST will be epic.
The guy did say that he wanted to bring something fresh into this and he is using different techniques for sound capture, plus this is a WHOLE NEW TRILOGY, so you’d expect something different.

i think they are doing a great job with the music so far
i have already made piano sheet music form the music from the 343 vidoc ( working at 343 ) it was a little easier to do then the music by Martin O’Donnell but still i like it very much
it has in my opinion more of a discovery feel to it
I especially like the way Neil Davidge works with the drums in that piece
that and there recording the soundtack at abby road so the sound quality is going to be good !

I think it sounds fine …
And im happy it sounds a little different then other halo’s .

Well, there’s this.
But besides this, the rest of the music sounds kinda generic. The ViDoc score has been growing on me, but it’s still nowhere near as good as most of Marty’s music.
