What do you think of Halo Infinite?

After having seen the campaign overview and our experience in the beta, you as fans or new to the series, what do you think of what Halo Infinite will be like, do you think Halo will finally return to its past glory, or will it just be another Halo? I look forward to your opinions, comments and experiences!

I think 343i have done well to compromise between classic and modern, from playing the technical preview I genuinely had fun that I haven’t had in Halo in a long time & the campaign overview looks like it’ll be interesting, especially with the chaos I’m going to inflict with the grapple shot (★‿★)

Highly skeptical. What we’ve seen so far has been very visually impressive and I love the emphasis on balance in multiplayer as well as an impactful campaign. Unfortunately I do not like the way this game is going from the outside looking in. It’s following all of the major gaming trends, none of which have ever worked for halo in the long run. I think 343/MS doesn’t believe that a traditional Halo experience can succeed in todays modern market and it’s sad. Things like fractured armors, armor effects, monetized paint coatings/armors, lack of forge/coop/assassinations, etc are so frustrating to see. It’s insane to me how anyone is ok with this.

Overall when I look at the game I see all the telltale signs of a destiny-esque development cycle and that is my biggest fear. The majority of games that follow such trends are dead within a month, halo setting trends instead of following them used to make it the exception to those rules, now it is just another example like the rest.

It isn’t my dream halo but it is halo. As someone who grew up on it thats enough for me at this point. Its a compromise that hopefully appeals enough to all eras of fans.

Can halo ever be what it was anyway?
I’m not sure it can.

Do I wish it was a feature complete launch?
Absolutely yes.

Am I worried for where they take the narrative and how it continues on from guardians?
Very.
I want more narrative consistency more than anything.
In the end it’ll be my mp game going forward or my last halo I look forward to.

Its been a wild ride either way and I’m grateful for the hard work put into infinite.

You are talking about the way to monetize and about the battle pass, right?

I’m very optimistic about it. From what I played during the flight, it felt like a good mix of classic Halo and modern FPS games. The story so far looks like it has potential to be great and I’ve enjoyed the multiplayer as well.

1 year after launch Halo Infinite will be the best Halo of all time.

343i have finally subdued their egos and are going to make a game that feels/plays like a Halo game, if this had been 343i of old we would’ve just gotten a BR game, but they’re a bit wiser this time around.

whether or not the story will be good is biggest question on people’s minds.

My experience with the technical previews has me very excited for Halo Infinite. I wish the campaign co-op was available off the start, but I usually play through on normal by myself for story purposes before going through on legendary with a buddy so not the end of the world. Overall, this is the most excited I have been about Halo since Reach! Can’t wait for December!

Everything surrounding monetization in this game, including less traditional aspects, like releasing it on the older generation and as a T rated game.

The whole game seems to be built around monetization. But it goes further than just that. How anyone thought halo needed an open world game with customization is mindboggling to me. Think about where those resources could’ve been better spent elsewhere (i.e forge, firefight, co op campaign). Theres a reason this game is releasing half finished.

So far in the mp beta I’m a bit disappointed. I love the gameplay style, the graphics are beautiful as well as this battle pass looks great! I am a bit upset with the inability to filter game modes at the moment as well as Oddball and Capture the flag aren’t good right now. I heavily dislike the fact that the ball carrier’s movement speed is reduced and the ball has a 2x hit requirement for a kill. This makes it heavily difficult to have fun as the carrier and gives too much of a handicap. I also dislike the inability to capture the flag if your team’s flag has been stolen. The flag is a 2 hit kill and you have no overshield or speed increase so that was an unnecessary change. I hope this all is fixed before December! Otherwise the game is looking great.

I thought that was always the case?

What do I like about Infinite so far:

  • Sound effects. Weapons have a nice oomph to them that makes them satisfying to use.
  • Gameplay feels fun.
  • Game looks nice.
  • Music is incredible, from what I’ve heard so far.

What I don’t like:

  • Absurdly limited multiplayer options. Want to play free for all? Sorry. Want to stick to slayer? Too bad.
  • Loading times are criminally bad, even with my NVMe SSD. I assume it’s because they’re using heavy compression to reduce the size of the game, putting the loading bottleneck on the CPU’s ability to decompress, and I’m running on a Ryzen 3200G.
  • Performance issues on PC. I’ve encountered moments in-game where a full second of frames was dropped.
  • No red vs. blue. I strongly prefer that over outlines. I’ve sometimes found myself confusing teammates for enemies.

As a campaign player and classic fan, I’m happy that Halo looks like Halo, plays like and that we’re getting a bigger campaign.

However I’m still concerned that some Halo 4/5 elements may subsist or that the game may be balanced too much for PvP. And the lack of coop and proper Halo HUD at launch is just awful.

If the campaign proves to be good and that 343 manages to deliver the promised missed elements, then the game will succeed. Hopefully it will feel unique and will bring back both newcomers and veterans.

Actually you are right about this, there is no way to get credits inside the game, but it is fully on pay to get. Pay-to-earn type. I made a post recently about the battle pass problems, you might be interested.

I am. I’m glad that we’re getting a bigger campaign with more depth. I was concerned about the customisation, but since it’s only for equipments, then I think the result will be good.

I totally agree. The lack of coop, forge, classic Halo HUD and lowered reticle, no red reticle on PC… The game will clearly be released unfinished.

Once all these basic elements will be back, then the game will be perfect. And 343 will finally be able to deliver 9 years of new content.

Overall I think it’s a lot of fun. But there are a few things I hope are changed. Not a fan of the challenge system, I think ball and flag should be one hit kill, and would definitely like a bit more variety as far as playlists go.
