I kind of wish I could play it on Xbox. The versions of Halo: Custom Edition I’ve seen add all kinds of new weapons, enemies, and even new level designs to the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved; stuff like new versions of the Assault Rifle and Battle outfitted with grenade launchers, a sort of shotgun-like “Brute Needler” (not sure what it’s actually called), and tons of other favorite weapons from later Halo games like the Carbine, SMG, Spiker, and more.
I wish they would make an expansion to Halo: CE Anniversary with the option to play the modded Campaign from Halo: CE Anniversary. That’d be awesome.
I used to play standard Halo PC, and Custom Edition for days on end when I was younger. I can still remember what maps were the best to download right off the top of my head.
Halo Custom Edition was pretty much my entire late childhood. There used to be tons of servers with unique maps, most of which were loaded with extra content. Really active community too, with people having their own clans and skirmishes.
The multiplayer component is a giant shell of its former self nowadays. Everyone only speaks Spanish, even in the American servers. The vanilla servers are all 16 players on small maps, what few there are. The vast majority of servers are either zombies, snipers-no-shields, or some stupid plugin where you spawn with sniper/rockets and there’s wonky medkit-teleports and vehicles spammed all over. It’s damn near impossible to find an actual normal game of Halo.
Thankfully the Campaign side is still active. You know, it’s not just limited to remasters of the Campaign. There’s a lot of original singleplayer missions people have made as well. Takedown and Lumoria are some of the better ones.
