What do you think of Assists and the award system

343 seems to have made it easier than ever to earn an assist. In the Bungie days it felt like you had to at least take down shields to earn an assist, but that is no longer the case.

I have personally always loved assists, and I like that there are medals for them now too. I feel a team’s assist count is a measure of teamwork and an individual’s assists are a credit too, which can be a redeeming factor should they break even or go negative.

They can be controversial though, many players seem to hate them and believe it means their kill was stolen or it is something that bad players get when they die after a failed attempt to kill another player. What are your thoughts on assists?

Without assists, you’d get nothing, every time you popped an enemy’s shields only for someone else to get the killing shot. It’s a great way to prevent those “that -Yoink- just stole my kill!” rage moments. It’s kind of ridiculous to hate assists and think they’re only for bad players. I’m surprised to hear people actually think of them that way.

Fine by me.

I agree with what you say right there. At least I don’t need to -yoink- & complain for getting nothing because someone just mopped my potential kills.

Ikr? It surprises me as well but friends of mine and random players over the years have made statements that have led me to believe that assists aren’t as universally popular as one would think. I pushed one of them to defend their position once and they basically said it felt like being yoinked, then they made a medal for it, and finally they made it easier to come by. I think they’re just more competitive people who feel like they’re always playing lone wolves even though every assist is a kill that your team got.

Getting an assist can be fustrating and annoying but it still gives you the satisfaction of knowing the enemey is dead

Well, it’s true, an assist does mean that you weren’t able to close the deal. On the other hand, it’s better than getting nothing.
