Noble Six, a fan favorite, regarded as a lone wolf effective hyper lethal spartan. We know most of Noble Six’s back story is shrouded in ONI shadows. If you had to take a guess, what do you think Noble Six’s story could be?
There’s actually a rather extensive history of B312’s early life on Halopedia.
Most of what we are missing backstory wise is just some of his more detailed military service, which if I had to guess was probably a lot of covert-operation type stuff since he was a pilot for the Sabre program for a while.

COVERED IN BLACK INK
I think he had little to do with the covenant until reach. He mostly just messed up some “innies”
I think he mainly took part in covert and stealth operations such as silencing Innie Leaders and destabilising Covenant groups here and there. His Superior used Six like a Grim Reaper until Holland asked for his transfer to Noble Team as Six’s Superior, for whatever reason, was unable/did not deny this transfer

Canonically I don’t think they actually have a backstory. I think Noble Six is essentially the same thing that Bungie had in mind for Master Chief, they’re just a vessel for the player to project themselves onto to become a part of the story. However its much easier to do it with Noble Six than it was with chief because you can change the spartans gender to match your own, all the customizing you do to their armor actually shows up in campaign. Since Six really is just a vessel for the player, I feel like their backstory is whatever you decide it is. Though if you did want a probable answer, Six was a spartan 3, so they were likely sent on a series of suicide missions to take out high value targets such as Covenant mines or factories along with a bunch of other spartan 3s. After they surprisingly survived the missions it probably caught the eyes of ONI. ONI then likely sent them on to assassination missions, or some other type of solo mission giving Six the reputation of a lone wolf.
Six is vaguely detailed as having been a “hyper-lethal vector,” and as Colonel Ackerson’s “Private Grim Reaper.” In addition to this, we’re also made aware through the campaign that they were a test pilot in the Sabre Program.
Basically, I’ve always taken this to mean that Six has been a very valuable military asset at the beck and call of high command and allocated around as needed; their assignment to Noble being, coincidentally and fortunately for Humanity, their last assignment.
On the metanarrative side of things, though, it is true that Bungie employed their tried and true protagonist philosophy on Six, namely: Let the player occupy the role. With Spartan B312 being fully customizable visually to the player’s whim, this is even truer than it had been with Chief and the Rookie. Accordingly, I think Bungie very much intended for each player to imagine Six’s past however they liked.
