What do you think made the population drop?

yeah man a dead game critisized by thousands is better. Everyone agrees h5 has worse art style, worst story, worst music. But yeah its better than infinite everyway despite it not even having the population of halo 3 or reach or any other game in mcc(xbox).

but yeah i get you. You are a h5 fanboy still mad that those things arent present in infinite. Go play h5 if you want those things. We dont want old things in this new halo game. If i want to play old things, I would play h5.

Just the echoing “Were aware” response to everything but no action being done.

finite is the worst halo we’ve ever had to suffer with, i hated H5’s story and MP even though i played the yoink out of it, i played the story once on heroic, then on legend, an didn’t touch it again until they added campaign scoring. and i only played warzone assault cause at launch there wasn’t a social playlist so after i got my rank the first time i never came back. i grinded all of the armor through warzone assault and dropped the game when i got them all.

only recently like 3 month b4 finite came out did i start playing H5 again, and it was a torturous experience to relearn it. then finite dropped and during the first two weeks it was a joy to play.

then the campaign was released and desync started to effect everyone BTB broke an 343 went on their merry little two week vacation while the game turned into a total dumpster fire. with no new maps where by this point in H5’s life it had at least 4-5 added to it, add to that there was no pay gated armor as you could grind it out like i did.

so I think i speak for most if not all of the true halo fans when I say this the absolutely worst halo maybe even the worst video game of the last decade (excluding cyber punk though at least that game was somewhat fun and had a good story) even assassin’s creed unity wasn’t as broke as this game and ubi made all of it’s DLC free as an apology same with the aforementioned cyber punk.

  • Very little content at launch
  • Broken BTB
  • Forced Crossplay
  • Worst Battlepass I’ve ever seen
  • No content updates since launch
  • Straight up lying to your fan base and thinking that it wouldn’t have any consequences

Literally not a single major update since release for what’s supposed to be a Live Service Game.

Desync was the nail in the coffin for me. The store was strike two. The lack of social features and absence of communication is another good point.

It’s time for a new studio. 343i needs to go. They are a liability for Microsoft. Nothing more. Probably much less.

most folk left most likely due to…

  • trash servers
  • lack of anything to honestly do or accomplish that makes it worth while to spend your time playing
  • some knowing that it took 6 years and it’s worse than any other prior game, and thus is on par with H5 and MCC at launch
  • aside from campaign and MP there’s nothing to do
  • custom games work for whenever they descide to
  • theater is borked
  • the store being generic and overly priced
  • the ‘improved’ customization being overly limited in a few places
  • the UI sucks
  • the game CHUGS in the main menu
  • practically nothing was changed from when it was in ‘beta’ so it may as well still be in beta
  • the challenges being to an extent infuriating. sometimes even promoting bad team work
  • no actually good progression system
  • ranked is borked
  • the server composer sucks so much it may as well be holding a rainbow flag
  • the events being boring and generic
  • the content of maps being terrible
  • the content of modes being slim
  • modes like BTB braking for an unacceptable amount of time
  • people looking back at what 343 has said about the game and feel lied (technically yes and no… from a certain point of view)
  • people disliking how silent 343 are
  • the ‘live service’ of the game is slow compared to H5 which wasn’t a live service game
  • the fact that it doesn’t feel like a AAA game and more of an cash grab given how iffy a lot of things are but the shop works a-okay
  • the fact that it is F2P as an attempt to excuse everything
  • people being so dissapointed that they’re waiting till S2
  • what little you do earn in the game doesn’t feel rewarding and intern boring or even not worth it at times
  • the game feeling bloated. IE challenge swaps and double xp filling most of the BP, along with emblems being split into four things to bloat the weekly rewards
  • weekly rewards not really being worth it most the time
  • some being annoyed that new modes are being removed like Atrition
  • some are annoyed at the cosmetic design (imo so far it’s fine, and not fortnite levels… yet)
  • the ‘new’ slipspace engine feeling like a waste of time. given that the game doesn’t look better than H5 and most ‘new’ things have been in past halo games in someway (equipment and abbilities) or the fact that others have managed to add things to the prior engine that this game has (the grappling hook mod to CE)
  • no way to dissable crossplay
  • nothing in terms of modes for ranked
  • the RNG aspect to get certain modes (IE certain modes from QP and SWAT) and thus not really being player friendly
  • aim assist being iffy
  • some claiming it to be hard to aim in the game
  • some people seeing 343 as incompetent and intern leaving thinking there is no hope for the game
  • the fact that 343 has seemingly given up any further devolopment on HW2, H5, and MCC for infinite
  • the engine also seemingly leaving 343 with the innability to improve or even at things and thus making things take stupidly longer. making it basically being SOURSE SPAGETIE 2.0
  • FOMO with items
  • some are mad at the dumb descision by 343 to outsource devs
  • some also being not only done with 343, but also microsoft for seemingly allowing this to be the next gen of their flag ship series
  • the terrible vehical ballancing
  • the grenade/weapon ballancing
  • the fact that even ESPORTS teams are done with the game
  • 343 banning geo-filtering but still doing nothing about the servers putting players into regions with 100+ ping by not giving a region selection option…

and so on and so forth… i most likely forgot somethings, but i’m sure ya’l get the point, people ain’t happy. now though we should take the numbers with a pinch of salt given how it’s just steam player numbers and not xbox players… it should also be considered that steam is the biggest market for PC gamers, so if it’s failing there… it most likely isn’t doing too hot on the game’s original platform either.

that also being said, not all of these are the reasons for everyone. just a mixture of these is all… these are just the complaints that i’ve seen around from YT comments to Waypoint, certainly abundant issues talked about a lot

Lack of live service and issues such as cheaters, BTB breaking and desync. Desync would effect people who don’t have great internet speed the most. This was probably the majority of players.

Also, the shop was very stingy, lacking real content (using stickers and emblems as filler). The prices in the store did go down but I think that it should go further. 10 EURO should be the absolute maximum and have highly enticing content

That’s quite a good comprehensive list. From speaking to my friends who have all quit, they point to the following:

  • It’s boring and repetitive
  • It’s not an enjoyable social experience (particularly with customs and BTB not working for so long)
  • Lack of playlists and content
  • Total lack of personalisation and customisation…you can’t be your own individual Spartan
  • Hit reg and desync issues
  • Other games are simply better and more enjoyable

I finished the Tactical Ops event pretty quick as I’m fairly decent twitch shooter and can play angles fairly well. As such I had some big scores in that event. Come back to ranked this week and got hammered with a kd around 0.3 in a few games as I’m now being matched against Onyx and Diamond players probably because my social games have affected my hidden mm ranking. Cant be bothered playing a few hours of crap games getting hammered while it sorts that mess out now.

Lack of content in combination with crap match making means I’m out for the foreseeable future. Might return for season 2 but coop is the only guarantee of me playing much at the moment.

Lack of gameplay depth. It’s hard for me to put my finger on it exactly, but the range based balancing is a huge part of it. Guns are balanced based on their intended range instead of ease of use. It makes the AR too strong in most fights. Automatic weapon dueling is not interesting because it too heavily relies on who-shot-who first. Combo that with RNG mechanics like bloom and a headshot modifier on every weapon, and gunplay feels super inconsistent. That’s the number one reason for me at least. The overall lack of content is a big part of it as well, but if the gameplay was better it wouldn’t bother me nearly as much.

Two months later, still lack of content. Not cosmetic items. Game modes, game types, playlists. Thing that any common sense player would’ve had at launch or added quickly. It’s very mind boggling.

that last one ‘simply better and/or more enjoyable’… really just sums it all together in a nice lil bow.
your friend’s reasonings are completely understandable. and great additions to the list

The faith of Halo in the hand of 343i is the reason.
