Personally, I think (and hope) Halo Infinite will shift back to the covenant as a primary enemy with the Guardians in the background. I also expect the Flood to make a return thanks to all the super-sleuthing the Halo community has been doing on the Zeta Halo rumors.
Cortana brings peace to the galaxy by plugging the Infinity Stones into Halo and wiping out half of all life. And the gameplay will be perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Jk. I personally hope the Didact has some role in stopping Cortana. He’s in the Domain after all, and it doesn’t seem like he’d take too kindly to someone that isn’t a Forerunner seizing the Mantle. Not to mention I’m sure he’d especially object to Cortana’s use of Halos.
I think it’ll open a year after Guardians. Infinity will be the last mobile base of the unsc constantly on the run from Cortana. Without the full support of the former UNSC theyre forced to scavenge for weapons and gear where they can find it (which is why chief has different armor).
Meanwhile Cortana has made a deal with Atriox and he has become the leader of a reassembled covenant following her threat broadcast across the Galaxy. Not having access to as many Prometheans as the new covenant, Atriox’s army has become her new main force.
At some point early on the infinity suffers heavy damage and makes a slipspace jump to zeta Halo, where the majority of the game will take place, and it makes an emergency landing. After arriving the chief and what’s left of the UNSC scour Halo for any kind of weapon to use against Cortana and the covenant.
While there they uncover mendicant bias who while still trying to atone for what he did vows to help chief take down Cortana.
Well, as it seems it’s a bit of a retro look…which I really like, I hope it gives us a look at 117 from another angle through a moving journey. I hope his helmet off is a gesture that we may get to finally see him and know him more personably. I’m really excited!
I guess I also want Halo : Infinite to yell from the mountain tops, “Let’s game!, and the industry see that the good ‘ol fashion gaming spirit (developers and gamers having fun together) is still alive. I’d like for 343 and Microsoft to set the example for other developers to follow. The gaming industry needs a big boy from the block to set the example and heal what other developers (I won’t mention names, but we all know them) have injured and taken advantage of.
I’m excited about Halo and thankful to have 343 gaming with us!
I have a theory. It has been said that Halo Wars 2’s story will impact The next Halo game (which we know know is Halo Infinite.)
We know, from the end of Halo Wars 2, that Installation 09’s firing mechanism is disabled. We also know that Cortana intercepts the ring with a Guardian.
We know that Anders is on the ring and she knows how to interface with its systems, even ejecting an entire section of the ring during Halo Wars 2.
Ander’s whole purpose of riding the ring into the galaxy is to get a distress call out. What if Anders, seeing Cortana’s technological supremacy asks her to go to the Ark to assist the Spirit of fire? I
Anders is smart, she would sense something is off about this whole situation. Cortana just is here for the Ring. So, Anders destroys the ring. Either by activating some self destruct mechanism or perhaps flinging all it’s important components into space; Library, Pulse generators, and finally, the control room, sacrificing herself. (That would be quite the cutscene)
It’s also possible that Cortana lets Professor Anders record a distress call. She knows Anders was Dr. Halsey’s student, so it could be used as bait to draw Dr. Halsey and John out from hiding.
With Installation 09 destroyed, Cortana goes after another Halo Ring, Zeta Halo. She uses Ander’s distress call which gets Infinity’s attention (assuming Blue team is on board or at least John & Halsey) they head to Zeta Halo’s location.
A trap is sprung and Infinity is shot down onto the ring.
Cortana sends in her reformed Covenant to do war with the survivors. But at some point, either the Covenant or UNSC discover the Ring’s dark secret. It’s storied past…and The Flood. There are multiple Proto-Graveminds in stasis on the ring. More than enough biomass, on the ring,
to form into a Gravemind. With the Gravemind now formed Cortana may ally with it. Assuming she has the Logic Plague of course. And that’s as far as I’ve thought it out.

How will the covenant play a role though? Jul mdamas faction was the biggest threat to the unsc and they were defeated. If the covenant are in the game then it will be either the banished or the grunts from balaho and any other species that choose to join the created

Since cortana is cloned from doctor Halsey brain the mention of red team being spartan 2s might intrigue her to help them

Well at the end of Halo 5 Cortana calls out to all the species of the galaxy (basically join me or die). I figure she’s going to unite all the Covenant factions under one banner. Then at some point in the game she’ll lose control of them. Just wild speculation on my part.
Also, I wouldn’t expect the Banished to show up in Halo Infinite for a few reasons.
- The casual fans won’t understand who or what they are. - It would further overload the story with more characters (a big criticism of Halo 5). - The Halo Wars storyline is usually kept separate and isolated from the main storyline.
I think we’re back to a sort of last stand situation. Seems to me as if Infinity took refuge on a Halo and went dark. The entire look and feel of the tech demo was one of abandonment and being alone in nature. Which is a big contrast to the tech heavy ODST through H5 games. I wouldn’t be surprised if Infinity is basically shut down there to avoid Cortana finding them through any comms or whatever. We basically saw them explore the ring if you ask me. A more down to earth feel, similar to CE.
If it is indeed Zeta Halo, Flood will show up. I also expect part of Halo Wars 2 to relate to Infinite. Wouldn’t be surprised if Infinity and Spirit of Fire will in the end be the start of a anti-Cortana fleet. Will the Covenant be enemies again? Perhaps, but my money is on Arbiter still siding with the UNSC.
Finishing what has been started with previous games. But that is just a guess.
Hopefully the defeat of the Guardians with them all being lured into a trap and then letting off a couple of nova bombs blowing them all up.
Halo.
Oh I really like the way it looks like it will go with only one exception, that they don’t bring back the Flood.
I’ve had a headcannon in which the Didact plays a role in defeating Cortana. He’s in the Domain, probably would object to folks who aren’t Forerunners obtaining the Mantle (especially if such folks are using Halos), so perhaps he’d be willing to at least somewhat shelve his burning hatred of humans if it means being able to help kick the Created out of town. We also can infer that there’s a population of Forerunners out there somewhere even though Fractures muddied that up. Although they obviously vowed to stay out of the galaxy after activating the Halos, that was 100,000 years ago and the folks who made that vow are long dead. If today’s political discourse is any indication, the very charismatic Ur-Didact could change plenty of minds. After all, without the leadership of the Forerunners, the inhabitants of the Milky Way released the Flood multiple times and very nearly activated the Halo Array.
So, the Didact would obviously have a far greater knowledge of the Domain than Cortana. The Domain is apparently intimately linked to the Guardians, and Cortana appears to have reduced Warden Eternal to a mere shadow of his former capability. It would seem the only thing stopping the Didact from already taking the Guardians from Cortana is him being sequestered to a different part of the Domain. Warden would never have discovered his presence because Cortana weakened him before the Didact was composed. The Didact has the means to stop Cortana, but cannot do it on his own. Chief must weigh whether accepting the Didact’s help—someone who enslaved millions of humans with the Composer and indirectly caused Cortana’s rise to power in the first place—is a morally sound decision. Can the Didact be trusted after everything he’s done? Do the Didact’s motives—stopping someone who isn’t a Forerunner from holding the Mantle—invoke the old “enemy of my enemy is not my friend” saying?Nonetheless, due to there being no other options, Chief must set aside his concerns, take the gamble, and help the Didact get full access to the Domain. Upon doing so, the Guardians are removed from Cortana, Warden Eternal is restored to his former role as keeper of the Domain, but little did we know, stopping Cortana was only part of much larger game the Didact has been playing. In addition to convincing Chief to help him get full access to the Domain, the Didact has also been convincing the fabled surviving population of Forerunners to return to the galaxy and take control as soon as Cortana is defeated. Cortana loses control of the Guardians, hurray hurray, but then an unstoppable armada of Forerunner ships, lead by the Didact himself (if Cortana can be reborn into the physical world so can he!!), show up to fill the power vacuum and restore order. The end.
This sets up the conflict for the next game(s), puts the story back on track to what Halo 4 was establishing (ya know, “the Forerunners have returned”), and reminds us that the Didact is the Thanos of Halo, not an “extraneous” character.

Story:
I would like a more definitive ending, where the game doesn’t end with a ton of confusion. Cliffhangers have worked well in the past in Halo (I.E. Halo 2), but as this was supposed to be the end of the Reclaimer Saga it would nice to see most of the current character and story arcs reach their conclusions (Maybe not Master Chief’s, but most of the current characters). I’d like to see Cortana’s plot unravel- whether that happens in the game or even if the game is set after Cortana’s scheme fails (but if they do fast forward, hopefully they at least explain how she fails). I’d like to see Mendicant Bias involved, especially if it’s how Cortana is ultimately foiled. I’m really okay with whatever direction 343i chooses to go, as long as it’s a good story and doesn’t screw the poooch in this area like they did with Halo 5.
Multiplayer:
I’d like to see larger maps with playlists that allow more players to join in- almost like Battlefield where 64-128 people can enter in ongoing mini wars. Of course there should still be 2v2, 4v4, 8v8, maybe even 16v16 but Halo should really push the bounds of what XB1 is capable of with the player count in a few playlists.
Mechanics:
I would like to see a continuation of the current controller configuration and movement system, to include keeping sprint. Maybe to satisfy those who don’t like sprint 343i could offer a “classic,” controller configuration for Campaign which allows players one BMS to move at relatively the same speed as sprinting. In MP modes the new movement system (including sprint) should be default for playlists, but 343i could add in classic playlists with an older movement system to satisfy that demographic of players. But above all else, everyone should be able to sprint in Halo Infinite should they want to.
