WHAT DO YOU THINK DEFINES SKILL IN HALO:REACH?

So, community, what do you think defines skill?

To me, I think skill is being the smartest player you can be, like having a strategy set, or just being able to outsmart/outplay a different player is skill.

To kill more then you are killed, to win more then you lose would be the simplest answer to that question and welcome to Waypoint Asunder.

Something more than raw twitch aiming skill.

Tactics vs pure aggression, like in previous games.

Using whatever button is assigned to Armour Abilities.

Why else would it make players invulnerable and able to completely destroy map flow and movement and hence a former large part of the Halo series.

There’s something about that button.

So not only do you constantly play the game you hate so much, you also go out of your way to come to this forum and talk about this game that you really hate.

Methinks you have more of an affinity for Reach than you think is cool to let on.

I think it’s all about the W, boys.

K/D matters not. Nearly everyone with the highest also has the lower percentages of wins. Not everyone, but most. Like playing MT Crazy King and Headhunter for months while just going for the easy kills. LMAO!!

100% bloom.

Playing tactically. Toying with your opponents through attacking and retreating. I usually kill a guy, back around a corner, throw a grenade while he’s coming around, and then finish him off. I’ve gotten several multikills by doing this correctly. It is also effective for luring enemies away from an Objective for an easy flag cap or bomb plant.

> 100% bloom.

Best answer ever LOL

Sword Block. Even Urza agrees :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

For Team Slayer, its pretty basic. Of course this works only if you always search by skill, then it should land you as close to 1.0 as possible.

(Kill+Assist/Deaths + Win/Loss)/2

For me that would be

(1.4+1.28)/2 = 1.34

Halo is a mental game. Playing smart is the best skill to have.

Aiming skill will work against newer players, but it won’t always work against good ones.

Ability to win in a balanced environment.

Out playing another player is skill.Winning more than you lose.Killing more than your killed.Like someone else all ready said.

K/D

> So not only do you constantly play the game you hate so much

I spend more time on this forum than playing Reach each week and that was because I was holding out for Halo 4 being good, now it’s basically Reach v2 I’ll post less because it is obvious 343i don’t care about feedback or making a good game and are just interested in introducing as many mechanics without balance ala COD.

> Halo is a mental game. Playing smart is the best skill to have.

Playing smart in Halo CE was essential, the other Halo games not so much.

People were throwing grenades in Halo CE to move weapons/powerups strategically while in Halo 4 we’ll have icons telling us where they are that ruins yet another great aspect of prior Halo games.

> Aiming skill will work against newer players, but it won’t always work against good ones.

That’s more about bloom being inconsistent garbage.

> Ability to win in a balanced environment.

Halo CE where plasma weapons were actually useful.

K/D and win percentages. Not always together but more or less either being high or both balanced. That and running up killing sprees, frenzies and running the other team up 100+ deaths in objective doesn’t hurt either.

Halo in General:

Aiming
Movement (Strafing, Crouching)
Situational Awareness (Using Radar, knowing when to attack, when to reload, when to use grenades, etc.)
Teamwork (Communication, Tactics)

Map Knowledge (not really a skill…)

Reach:

Shooting (Pacing)
Using Armour Abilities (Yes these actually take skill… such as knowing when to use them, and the best way to use them)

All of these contribute to overall skill. Skill is quite hard to measure however. You can’t just look at someone’s K/D or W/L, because there is no way to tell who they played against/with.

Ex: Someone who has a 0.90 K/D in MLG is likely better than someone who has a 1.80 K/D in LD.

This is a great question. Especially since many people on these people like to complain about skill gap. Without a mutually agreed upon definition for what skill is, it is impossible to discuss the concept of a “skill gap.”

Being able to use an AR to kill a DMR player at medium range.
