What Do You Think "Darker Gameplay" Means?

I was wondering what exactly it means to have “darker gameplay” in Halo 4. Any theories?

Not as fun and casual, less grunts suicide or running away when the see you, no more “funny marines” that say stupid things then die within seconds, less bright and happy colours and more realistic colour scheme, less “run and gun” and more though before action as well as a story with bigger impact on the player and heavier emotional response from Chief and others.

It’s just going to be more psychologically mature. Touch on the character’s role and philosophy in the game. Make their challenge more serious than just a point and shoot atmosphere.

Suicide Grunts aren’t dark?

Not in high-pitched voices they aren’t.

They were slightly intimidating in Reach with their harsh alien growls and screams.

cinematic experience Ohgodwhy.jpg

> Not as fun and casual,

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!

> less grunts suicide or running away when the see you,

I hope so. Grunts always manage to delay their deaths by panicking. The less panicking, the easier headshots.

Grunts that go kamikaze do my job for me. No thanks.

> no more “funny marines” that say stupid things then die within seconds,

I can live with that.

NO! Halo has lost it’s luster too much.

The shine was strong with Halo in the CE days. Now look at it. Dark red Goldies! That makes no sense!!!

> less “run and gun” and more though before action

Swarm behavior has always been what Grunts do best. Grenade throwing… not so well. Unless they throw grenades like in H2 or CE, then I’d like them to have faster tosses similar to H3 fuel rod gun Grunts and Reach Elites because H3 Grunts are self destructive with grenades and Reach Grunts are no better.

Sure, but I rather see grunts that actually try to kill you, in ODST they were awesome at grenade kills for example. Grunts are supposed to be the equialent of a Marine, not a mad cow ^^

Well, not dark brown and realistic like your everyday FPS, but neither fancy colours for the sake of colours, but unison themes and somewhat effective “camouflage” colours responding to the environments. Moe Halo CE, less super mario. The enemies looked mean despite colours in CE, they sure can do it again in Halo 4

I want my enemies to be intelligent, the grunt “swarm” behaviour should be used as a strength, not an excuse for weak AI. Team shooting would be effective, sending out a grunt “scout” while the others cover, if an ally dies, try to kill (not run) or at least throw a grenade.
Grunts in ODST, especially Firefight, were awesome at killing. Especially with grenades but even with standard arms, simply because they would shoot first and ask questions later, sure they did panic too and suicide, but not all the time, and not when firing a gun would be at least as effective.

Well I hope its not actually dark. I wanna be able to see lol. I’d like to see scarier enemies and more gore.

Maybe Chiefs flashlight is broken.

Master Chief’s gonna be grumpy from his sleep. Obviously, he’s not gonna be cheerful, which impacts the gameplay and mood. It’ll be dark alright.

I’m taking it as “More angsty” or to put it another way “More like Twilight.”

Darker gameplay?

Something called light settings.

It might just mean a more gritty atmosphere… I personally hope to be in a situation sort of like Kat’s in the Deliver Hope trailer, or the Believe Halo 3 trailer.

i think they mean more mature, but i hope that that doesn’t just mean more gore and swearing (doubt it will though)

its going to be in the dark, duh XD

on a more serious note i expect it means that the stakes are higher, they go deeper into characters, the enemy may be hell bent on destruction. maybe all of the above, who knows? one thing for certain is i am seriously looking forward to it :stuck_out_tongue:

The word Epic comes to mind

Reach 2 confirmed.

-_-

A more serious atmosphere, more violence, more sad moments.
