I was thinking about halo infinite and saw someone mention a possible ending to halo 6, about The unsc vs cortanas army.
But what do you think the army would be? Prometheans? Covenant?
I would think it would likely consist of mechanical troops as the goal seems to be pretty much the enslavement (or forced pacification depending which term you prefer for the scenario and how you see it) of the species inhabiting the known universe.
Therefore, recruiting biological beings for the army would be taking unnecessary chance for compromising that goal by arming potential opponents, living beings have their own minds.
Other than that, it would also likely put loyal subjects on risk contradicting the whole pacification thing, disarming the known universe & then rearming it.
And that is while it seems to want all the guns to itself, taking lives seems to be fine as long as no other is the one taking lives in fights. The absolute power over others.
And as to why taking lives is seemingly fine, those EMPs surely caused biggest disasters for a long time, airplanes crashing to land, the famine after electrical equipment wont work for storing or moving edible resources to megacities, absolute chaos followed by famine in form of riots and infighting over resources and so forth.
Calculated casualties over gaining absolute control, so to speak. The usual authoritarian story.

Joking aside it would certainly be mechanical in nature. Organic lifeforms cannot be controlled in the same manner. Cortana would likely override her subjects and act as an AI hivemind of sorts.
I’m pretty sure her army will consist of Promethean-esque bots to be used as her own military, while much larger things such as the Guardians will be the police of the galaxy. I assume there’s already plenty of Prometheans she can convert, but maybe she could also create some of her own for her own army. Hell, maybe she’d even convert some of her loyal followers into a hybrid of metal and flesh for more complex and powerful machines. She sounds like the kind of overpowering ruler that’d do things like that.
Probably a mix of Prometheans, Sentinels and Covenant remnants.

- Prometheans (hope they get a redesign in both gameplay and artstyle) - Forerunner sentinels and alike - Grunts* - Jackals* - Drones* - Elites* - Brutes* - Hunters* - Skirmishers* - Huragoks**Covenant species will not be regular “Covenant”, they will probably have gear/armor/equipment/weapon of some kind created by Cortana, or at least some units will - I also hope not everyone of these units will have a jetpack like Halo 5’s Covenant, that did normalize them too much.

That’s a really interesting idea. How should she controll them though?
What if she composed all her subjects? Maybe then they wouldn’t know hunger or pain? Either way I would love to see what kind of match ups we can have.

I’d assume others, to various degrees of willingness. (Even more Hunter needler spam? Please no.)
Kind of hoping they take the “Is Cortana infected with the Logic Plague?” and run with it, and let that show in her army.

Sentinels wont side with cortana.They dont attack you in halo wars 2 or halo 4

Huragok I dont think will play a part.Because of their unique communication I do t necessarily see hunters or drones siding with Cortana

Absolutely. They would be better not having any organic needs. An army that follows every order, has no need to eat, drink or sleep and has no free will would be a devastating force to be reckoned with!

Sandbox wise would be much better for them to be there as enemies
