What do you think about the REQ-Pack system?

Hi Spartans.

By now, I’ve played over 100 hours in Halo 5 Multiplayer. I have all common, uncommon, rare REQ-cards, and lots of ultra rare and legendary.

But I don’t really know if I like that unlock-system or not. I remember the time in Halo 3 where you had nearly nothing to unlock, about 10 armors, helmets etc. and that was it. And sometimes I have the feeling that in Halo 3 you played another match just because you have fun, and now you play another match, to get some points to buy the next REQ-pack. What I notice is, that everything in Halo 5 is about these REQ-packs.

Is that just me and my friends, or do some of you think the same?
And would there be a better unlock system, like in Call of Duty?

I’m very interested in your opinions.

I hate it
It was much better in halo reach
the packs only has bull -Yoink-

I was talking to my roommate about this the other day, and how the REQ system kind of make the game frustrating because you are working towards something (which is good) but because you don’t know what you’re working towards it makes it really frustrating when you get a lot of stuff that you don’t care about or want. We talked about what the best system would be, and how they could easily take a mixture of all the armor systems so far (3, Reach, 4, and 5) to make something that is truly quite special.

In 3 armor was primarily unlocked by beating campaign missions and unlocking achievments. 4 did this a little bit too. Both Reach and 4 had you unlock most armor by leveling up in multiplayer, although Halo 4 did add unlocking armor by completing commendations and specializations, and the REQ system being very random does have some benefits. All of these things could easily be combined to create something really cool.

Imagine an Armory similar to Reach’s that showed you all the armor in the game, and how to unlock it. But unlike Reach, multiplayer shouldn’t be the only way to unlock things, and after unlocking things they weren’t stupid expensive to buy. Completing achievements, commendation progress, playing the campaign, and multiplayer level progression should all be ways to unlock sets or pieces. Also like Reach, there should be a drop-down menu when selecting a base armor, except instead of attachments it should be a list of skins. Skins that are all unlocked by spending credits (because REQ points are dumb) on packs. You should only be able to wear pieces that you have the base set for, so even if you happen to get a skin for armor you don’t have, you would be able to look at the base piece needed and figure out what you need to do to go get it so you could wear the skin you just got. Everything would be connected. Microtransactions could allow you to buy credits, allowing DLC to still be free, and armor would mean something again. It’s the best of both worlds, and makes all aspects of the game worth playing, even if you are only a multiplayer person, or a Firefight person and tend to like customization.

The Req system needs to go, imo.

Its not fun playing to open a random pack that you don’t know what you’re getting.
Id rather set a goal on what I want and try to get it, instead of luck.

I just play to play now, I don’t even care about the ranks since they are just going to reset all the time, and I sure as hell don’t care for opening req packs.
So now I play just to have fun, and that only lasts so long with the limited amount of playlists and maps.

yeah I don’t like it

In all honesty, I’m not sure of how I feel about it. I’m leaning towards not that great of a fan, especially since I so rarely play Warzones (which is mostly what req packs are for anyways).

I don’t like the REQ system that much for two main reasons. First, it defeats the purpose of customisation system, because you can’t really choose armour that is meaningful to you, or get armour by completing a challenge. Second, it is also a bit pay to win in Warzone. Someone who buys REQ packs is going to have many more useful REQs (Scorpions, Banshees, etc) than someone who does not. Someone who pays for REQ is also more likely to get a useful loadout weapon such as a DMR or a gun with the Energy Bayonet attachment.

There is one positive thing about the REQ system though, which is that you can play with cool vehicles and weapons more often. In previous Halo games you couldn’t just go play using the Sniper Rifle for a day or something. You had to beat the other players to it, and then you may die with it quickly. The REQ system eliminates that, which is nice.

i liked the halo 4 commendations idea if you wanted a specific armor piece you had to complete the commendation for that piece of armor get legendary ones made you think how good of a spartan you were

They need to add specific Req-packs like vehicle packs, customization packs, or weapon packs.

You have some really good ideas man, I like them. Maybe you should be in the game-design team of 343 Industries :stuck_out_tongue:

A good combination would probably be the best thing. Keep the REQ-packs for warzone and microtransactions. Different challenges for the customization parts and so an. Much likely as you said.

I honestly like the req pack system.
