What do you think of the campaign ?
I am personally disappointed… The Halo 4 campaign doesn’t have the same quality of the Halo (Bungie) game. The beginning of the campaign is awesome! When Chief is falling in the space and the Halo 4 screen title appear for example, yes it’s awesome! But after that the story go nowhere. Nothing is explain… Why the Covenant are ennemie ? (now I know but it’s not explain in the story) Why we have Spartan 4 ? Why the story need the Spartan 4 ? We almost never see the Spartan 4 in the campaign.
Ok, the ending is truly beautiful. But the Legendary ending is poor… I don’t want to spoil but what we see in the Legendary ending was not a good 343 Industries idea.
I don’t want to play the hater or something like that, but please if someone does not like or like the campaign I will be happy to read your opinion.

I do not dislike the campaign but,it’s not my favorite. I do not like how damn short it was though. Four and half hours!
I don’t like it. A lot of the plot points could’ve been explained better and it only really made sense when the book Silentium came out…5 months after the game released. That’s not good.
Meh, they didnt explain it well and quite frankly all it was, was revenge this revenge that, push button, more revenge. So I would say story was it was bad, you shouldnt have to read book to understand it. And gameplay wise horribly repetitive, and generally not fun.
For everything they did wrong with multiplayer I feel like they did right with the campaign. I was extremely impressed by the depth of the storyline and how much of the book canon it included. Loved it.
I really enjoyed it, but of course there’s always room for improvement.
If you don’t understand why the Covenant are still enemies, it’s really not hard to figure out. There’s always a difference in opinions, and after something as strenuous as the Human-Covenant war, relations are bound to be fragile with members of both species wanting to eradicate the other.
They explained the role of the Spartan IV’s in the Prologue. They were meant to replace Master Chief and the other SII’s and III’s that were KIA.
My issues are mainly about the gameplay. Such as the lack of any real big battles like the Scarabs in Halo 3. Those were amazing, and the Lich doesn’t even really come close. The Scarab at least moved around and wasn’t 100% scripted in it’s movement. Not to mention I expected something BIGGER than the Scarabs, 343 really should’ve taken out all the stops for that.
The short 4 hour span of the Campaign was also disappointing. I was hoping for a story as long as Halo 2, and when I heard there were only 8 missions that was a bummer.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t a explain a damn thing. Why are covies there? Iunno.
How come a device meant to imprison a Forerunner can easily be turned around and used by said forerunner as, not only his ship, but an attachment to a even bigger ship.
However the true meat of it, Cortana and Master Chief, was tolerable, if a bit out of character and melodramatic. But I got what it wanted and enjoyed it for what it was.
Oh, but it also destroyed in type of concern of threat or stake for Master Chief in the long run, as I know now that’ he’s invincible.
Fall from space? No problem. My armor doesn’t even get a scratch anymore. Nukes? Pfft. No problem. Space magic? No worries, no ones smart enough to actually use what they have against me.
I thought it had some the best storytelling to come out of the series so far. However, what really hurt it for me was its pacing. The entire thing just felt so rushed to me. If I hadn’t read the books that lead into the game then I probably wouldn’t have had a clue what was going on.
Like you said, the game started out on a high note, but never really let us have a moment to breathe, take it all in, and start thinking about just what in the world was going on. It just puts its foot on the gas peddle and keeps on going.
Aside from the storytelling woes though, the missions were what really irked me. Its not that they were bad, but there just didn’t feel like there was anything to them. I understand that the “enter an area, clear out all of the enemies, and move on to the next one” is Halo’s thing, but this was really 343i’s chance to show us something new.
Give us some more choice like we had in missions like Mombasa Streets or Halo, some tension like in 343 Guilty Spark, or introduce something we’ve never seen like some puzzle solving…just…just…something besides the same old thing with a few more scripted events.
If there was one thing that should’ve changed in Halo it should’ve been the way we played the campaigns, and the multiplayer should’ve stayed closer to its roots.
Anyway, this is my 2 cents. I enjoyed the campaign, but didn’t love it. Its easily the best part of the game for me though, but that’s mostly b/c of how much I disliked the way the other modes turned out.
I liked the use of quick time events, and I was really intrigued with John 117 and Cortana’s relationship. I wish the Didact was explored more, he just felt like a dude he said “I will destroy the earth, and I will get my soldiers to shoot the protagonist.” Not very interesting. The campaign was short too. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign, but they can definitely do better with the story-telling aspects and length.
I thought it was really good, but not nearly as good as it could have been. There was no character development other than Chief and Cortana, but we already knew about them. They also didn’t explain things every well. They said you wouldn’t have to read the books to understand, but that isn’t really true. If you don’t read them, you’ll probably be really confused.
The story could’ve been better. I would’ve taken it a different way. I liked the characters. I loved the prologue. I’ve had more fun playing Halo 4’s campaign than I’ve ever had playing any of the others. It has the most replay value of all the Halo games, in my opinion.
It did feel too short in the end, although I didn’t actually have a problem with the time it took to complete. The story just felt like it progressed a little too quickly. Too simple, too convenient.
Overall, though, I thought it was the best campaign so far. It was fun. They just need to work on stretching things out and cool it with all the “press and hold X” crap.
It’s dead to me. There’s barely any incentive now, besides playing Co-op.
My disappointments:
Chief is a shell of his former self (low jump height, fall damage, no flashlight)
Easter eggs are more in context with story/lore and hidden well, but are very lackluster (sometimes punishing)
Exploration (in a conventional sense) is mostly pointless (barely any solid ground outside of maps)
We’ve been having the same Skulls for 4 games now (they could have implemented a new set of game modifiers, call it something like ‘Promethean souls’, so LASO isn’t destroyed by harmful effects)
Scoring, Theater, Skull Hunting, and in-game Terminals are gone
Didact was heavily advertised as Chief’s nemesis but barely made an appearance. Also, there’s a lack of character development for supporting cast. Hardly any info given on Covies. Barely any conflict and later, cohesion, between Covies and Prometheans can be seen. For majority of the Campaign, they seem to be operating separately. It isn’t until Spartan Ops where they can be seen working alongside each other. Even then, the lack of enemy variety makes encounters very repetitive. By the end of the Campaign, we’ve seen all their tricks.
Sections featuring Vehicles have been a core Halo feature, one which Halo 4 did not do very well.
First of all, the Ghost run was placed too early in the story. Might as well have made it a cutscene since we know Chief’s going to make it. Second, it did not feel distinct. Nowise10 has uploaded a first person Ghost run, why couldn’t we have had that? Third, it is simply unpleasant. That you can get launched out of the map at random or flip the Ghost and die shortly after.
Then there’s the Lich. It was defended by waves of 2 Ghosts + a Wraith and this is where things can get very frustrating as you have limited resources not to mention exiting a hijacked Ghost may cause it to blow up at random. The Lich can suffer from an invincibility glitch, sometimes it does not deploy the grav lift, sometimes you can just step right in without having to engage any of the aforementioned vehicles. There’s basically a lack of coordination.
Lastly, the Midnight Broadsword run. Depth perception is hindered, the trench is very limited, it’s just awful.
QTEs are most definitely casual catering and I felt like I was being babied when being told to press B to kill the Elite. They are only productive from a story perspective (cutscenes still accomplish that better). As gameplay devices, they hinder mission replayability, especially when there are no variance in difficulty.
Compare CE PoA to Dawn.
Cryotube:
CE: On Easy, Chief remains in the cryotube. On Legendary, the game skips right to the exiting cutscene.
H4: No difference. Chief always starts off in the cryotube.
Opening door:
CE: On Easy, Chief is rerouted into a dark room with a broken door which he must bash open. On Legendary, he can take the direct route.
H4: No difference. Chief always pries open the door.
Where to go:
CE: You are eventually guided by a marine.
H4: Chief gives hints where to move during the elevator climb, on all difficulties. ESP maybe?
Elite ambush:
CE: On Easy, Chief comes across an Elite in the dark room. On Legendary, the Elite’s not there but there’s human blood stains on the wall.
H4: No difference. Chief always gets ambushed by a sword wielding Minor.
The Didact was a bad antagonist barely said or did anything, you know I was expecting a lot more from him considering that we were finally going to encounter an actual forerunner, with 343 hyping him so much with his symbol appearing all over the internet. Telling the main and vital points of the story through terminals was a very bad thing to do and to me is bad story production and to make it worse we can’t watch them in the game. That kind of thing does not give the player (well me at least) a good gripping experience of the story and campaign. This was about Master chief facing his biggest threat yet, humanity has never been in so much danger, sorry but I didn’t that feeling, I didn’t feel as if the chief, humanity or anyone was in an over whelming amount of danger.
The majority of the levels and objectives were boring to me far too repetitive and it felt like a chore going through them. Also far too much was going on at the same time in a short of a time, Cortana’s rampancy, understanding the didact’s motives and reason etc. They need to at least added an extra 2 or 3 levels becuase the whole story seem very rushed and crammed in, an extra few levels would have been needed so the story would unfold and pan out more naturally, the campaign just holds very little replay value for me I have absolutely no desire to play it over again.
The music in this game wasn’t all that great, it wasnt terrible music but it wasn’t great either. It just didn’t seem to give halo 4 an identity they way Halo 1-3’s music did. I know this term has been thrown about a lot but the music wasn’t iconic or memorable, a lot of it felt dull and does not stand out, a lot of those tracks could fit into a number of games or movies, it just doesn’t hold it’s own identity. I still think Neil Davidge should have used the actual Halo them, I know he’s the new composer but imo the Halo theme should have stayed.
The only thing that was done extremely well in was the graphics and it seemed like 343 concentrated on that more than anything else, now that might not be true but I got that impression. Just basically all glitz and glamour.
Anyway those are my thoughts on it i tired to keep it brief and not ramble on too much.
Out of all the halos, honestly the best campaign. So emotional, so mysterious. I really, REALLY like this campaign. I Ike the bond between chief and cortana. I liked when the UNSC found chief, and when master chief had to save the world once again, the soundtrack during everything was PERFECT.
I give the campaign a 10/10
I give halo 4 altogether… An… Infinity… Out of 10.
Truth.
I enjoyed the campaign and feel it set up strong potential for future games. However I was a bit disappointed in how short it was. Beat the game in like 5 hours and the ending seemed to just pop up on me, I was holding out for a twist that extended the game a few more hours.
