What do you think 343 could've done differently

with halo 5? I mean when I saw the ad for the game I thought you could choose between either playing as Locke or Master Chief. And you either kill chief/Locke. Not playing both in one campaign story

I think 343i should have put more character development in the game. When you watch a TV series and someone dies and you feel sad, it’s because throughout the show, the character developed with backstory and watching them behave according to their personality. When cortana died in Halo 4, I felt great grief for the chief (I’m a poet hehe). I feel like if anyone (except chief) had died in halo 5, it just wouldn’t have the same effect. I don’t feel the emotions of characters. They’re just moving people with names to me.
Other than that, great campaign, and a great set-up for halo 6

story, art, and ultimately who the multiplayer was designed for. A lot of diehard fans of the franchise are actually losing interest because of this hypercompetitive esports shift. the maps aren’t as big or relevant to the backstory like they use to be. And armor design and customization in terms of both armor and color palette is a joke.

You make a good point

More Sandbox missions, rather than just random open areas that you are funnelled through corridors to get through.

Oh big time…like they should have a 3rd option for the color of the armor

Improved servers, more regional servers, better net code…and a whole new experienced network and development team that know what they are doing with online multiplayer gaming would be a good start.

Whilst we’re at it…the UI is crap as well so they need to fire whoever was responsible for that mess and a hire a new team to implement something decent.

WAY better campaign flow. The story is decent, but the execution is horrendous. Can’t even begin to describe how badly they paced the story.

Release the game with an entire roster of gametypes. Absolutely unacceptable that all gametypes weren’t available at launch.

Better structure to Warzone. It’s a great idea, but it plays like a less thought-out invasion gametype and double the players, making the experience a real cluster****.

Forge: I think the advanced UI is nice, but it’s too big of a leap for casual forgers. We needed a control option to be like that of Reach/4 so less experienced players could comfortably forge while advanced forgers could still take advantage of the new controls as well.

Oh, and the multiplayer maps are terrible. Fire whoever thought “Hey! Let’s make every map a tiny cardboard box with a series of tubes and boxes to make the game play slightly different from every other one!”

Jesus. Look at the variety of Halo 3’s maps. Small, Medium, Large, Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, and VEHICLES were all available to the classic 4v4 playlists. (If they wanted to revive the Halo name and make it a MLG staple again, maybe learn from the most successful one, DUH!

Campaign wise they shouldn’t have lied to us about the whole chief vs Locke thing.

Multiplayer wise- should have never given autos the amount of power that they did. Should have had party restrictions so that teams of 4 could match randoms.

Should of been teams of 4vs teams of 4. Randoms vs randoms.

Halo 5 isn’t my least favorite Halo game, but it has by far the most things I would change…

  • Having 270 emblems to unlock is unacceptable. In no universe is that fun or even okay…
  • Dedicated servers = Server browser. There is absolutely nothing to gain from having one without the other. N.O.T.H.I.N.G. Maybe if there was a solid Gold medal for doing so that says ‘I have no common sense’ or something, but there isn’t…
  • Hire a writer that can deliver what was advertised, and can create something comprehensive, so we don’t have people saying they don’t understand the story.
  • Campaign scoring, earnings and leaderboards were removed for nothing. Provide SOME form of offline arcade-scoring component within Singleplayer.
  • Random unlock systems don’t work. Bloated AND random unlock systems work even less. Unlocks reward you for playing. Making them so endless and random makes them ‘not’ rewarding.
  • Split-screen yada yada
  • The aesthetics are getting predictable and repetitive, especially human/UNSC settings. Draw from reality. There is no reason they should all look exactly alike. Halo 1, 2, 3, even Reach, all use realistic textures, objects, and settings, and as a result, the maps all look and feel different; unique. The Pit looks nothing like Rats Nest.

Also, for the love of all that is holy, not all ‘new’ gameplay mechanics have to lower your weapon. Halo 5 has the least gun readiness in the series. If they had a single creative bone in their bodies when making these mechanics they would’ve at least built them around some form of gun readiness. Thruster was implemented pretty well in spite of this but even COD lets you shoot during Clamber. If you’re so eager to add your own gimmicky spin on the gameplay with each installment you make, take time to think about the long-term, and not the short-term. Ask yourself if they help the game as a whole package instead.

Damn near everything.

I agree with all of you…when I saw the e3 trailer of halo 5 when master chief was in the desert and the guardian came out I thought that was gonna happen but no…when they showed the Locke/chief trailer I thought you had an option of either taking them alive or dead…I hate they 343i just fooled us like that

Delay, launch with full playlists/ Game-modes. Even consider Classic H2/3 style playlist.
