What do you look for in a clan or community?

G’day everyone, I have a question for you all!

Regarding today’s Halo clans and communities, what are the key aspects that you look for before joining or remaining a member?
I understand that everyone may have different responses, but I would love to hear all of your perspectives; as each perspective will hold truth behind what makes a good clan or community.

Thank you & I look forward to reading your responses

I’m in a clan, have been in the same one for about 10 years now. But I keep an open mind in the competitive scene that is clans. The most important thing for me looking for one.

  • Skill Range
I play ranked a lot, so I look for clans where the base membership has a higher ranked value. My highest is 25, I want to push to 50. So I look for those around 20 or with a clan that has players with that. Skill is one thing but also being likable and getting invites to events which goes both ways. If I join a clan though I would rather just be invited while I’m online to things then sign up to them and wait for things to happen. Waiting for things to happen kills the experience altogether. Being included just makes it easier and more fun to get teams going in ranked or other events when all I have to be accountable for as a member is if I’m online and playing Halo.

  • Social Aptitude
Cannot tell you how important it is people are normal. Like Halo’s made some weird people, clans make even worse. Toxicity is fine, shooting dead bodies and tea bagging is hilarious and its all just a game but like random shade/hate speech and derogatory comments is just weird. People who think politics or knowledge of modern wars and tactics makes them better at the game or delusional, believing that they are some actual enabled Spartan because they role play with a gamer tag or have some code of ethics after doing a random parkour jump map.

  • Hours Available
I’m in Japan, so I play mostly US EST all nights or all mornings. Most times I’m always on a US West server and Halo’s largest population is without a doubt in the US but if there aren’t many members that play on US West or when I’m on, I’m just not interested. No point joining a clan that is dead in my timezone. For me Clans are all about getting friends together to play Halo, if I can’t do that I don’t really care about the clan.

I also believe that clans should be competitive, so If I was looking for a clan I would want to join one with a pretty good reputation and is constantly going against other clans. This is just a sign of activity and all in all to help build personal brands, skill and friends. Clans that stick to themselves and do customs inward is cool, but you just hit a ceiling. How many custom games can you play and so on.

I stray away from new clans, new clan leaders too. Clans are started best at its core as a group of friends. If its splintered off from another group even better (they usually do things that the group they left didn’t) the best clans in my opinion were all started as a people coming online together to get things done.

Thank you for your in-depth responses, I agree with a lot of those points

The highlight for me would have to be:

> For me Clans are all about getting friends together to play Halo

I believe this is a important foundation for any clan or community, as it’s important for there to be a genuine connection between those who are in the same group.

A great analyse of your experience, thank you again for your great response
