One thing I didn’t like about Halo: Reach was Bungie’s approach on realistic type maps. Maps that you would look at and say “Oh, it makes sense they are fighting there” Like Boardwalk and Countdown (Even though I did really like countdown, just using it as an example). Maps that hap pipes running down the walls and small poles that would ruin many a grenade throw. I loved how they looked and all but game play wise they were a little annoying. The most popular maps in Halo were ones that were really simple like Blood Gulch or Avalanche or Valhalla and such. I don’t want to make this sound like a big deal because it really isn’t but still I want to give my opinion. I also think great maps have lots of light and are just basked in the virtual warm glow of the sun. I think Haven looks a lot better than Adrift because it is much brighter and just has so much more simplicity to it you know? The new Forge map and longbow look great but Adrift just doesn’t match my play style I guess. I do think that what map you play on will determine the primary weapon you use, like using a BR on Adrift because it’s closer quarters, or a DMR on Longbow because it’s a ranged map. Grenades too. I would use Frags on Adrift because I could bounce it around a corner and leave it by a door for an enemy; and Plasma on Haven because I could use it to keep enemies away from top center.
What do you guys think about the new maps?
tl;dr Simple maps sometimes>Complex maps.
you mean the like only 3 maps we know about? they are good i guess
I like both really, as long as they play good and have a nice layer of new paint I’m happy.
Well I really should have said I prefer Haven over Adrift, I really do like how they both look. I love Adrift’s sky box.
From the 3 or so we know about they look amazing and I think thay will work very well with the new game types like regicide and infinity slayer. Plus I like that back story on why red and blue are fighting because we are in war games on the unsc infinity. All around I think it’s going to be good .
Yeah I agree, the canon multiplayer is a pretty cool idea.
Haven looks promising with it’s “Get on top” style of gameplay akin to most of the older halo maps. I am not sure about Adrift yet. I feel like the geometry of the map wasn’t being used well by the people who tested it because it is a bit more complicated. Longbow looks pretty good, but idk that much about big team map layouts outside of Valhalla =P but overall I am pleased so far.
The new maps look pretty good.
Haven looks really reminiscent of Narrows, but I see the inspiration of a Wizard-style, circular, two-tiered map. It looks like it will be fine for more simple gametypes like Slayer, Oddball, or Regicide.
Adrift is the map I’m like the least of the maps we’ve seen so far. It just looks average. It looks like a mix between Countdown and Condemned, two of the maps from Reach I liked best. As with Haven, I think it will do well with simpler gametypes like Slayer and Oddball.
Longbow is definitely my favourite of the three maps. It’s a BTB with multiple bases, plenty of room for vehicles, and just enough cover to prevent players on-foot from being completely decimated from them. Plus, I just like snow maps. I really can’t wait to get some playtime on that map.
I’m glad that Certain Affinity is helping out with the maps, they’ve made some good stuff in the past. All I want, however, are spiritual successors to Sandtrap and Zanzibar. I miss Objective games on those maps, and I want to have similar experiences in Halo 4.
To be honest, I didn’t like any map in Reach, I just tolerated some more than others. Hopefully halo 4 has better maps.
