What do you expect from Forge mode?

After seeing the Halo2A forge system I’m getting really hyped for what Halo 5 might have to offer.

Weather

time of day

terrain theme

skybox theme

water placement

object skins

object grouping mechanic

new objects

Honestly, I’d be happy if they just ported the H2A forge over to the new engine. But if pressed, id go with more scripting. I could do some really cool stuff with that…

Considering how furiously 343 and Microsoft emphasize Halo’s place as a ‘next-gen’ title, then I expect nothing less than a Forge mode that lives up to the enthusiasm. A mode that is, for all intents and purposes, a whole generation ahead of its predecessors - something that will make past forge iterations look like sticks and stones. In-depth scripting capabilities, huge forge canvases, diverse palettes, NPC-spawning/manipulation, particle emitters, sound cues, and other advanced options would be ideal. Elephants, Pelicans, and other universally desired sandbox additions would also go a long way in helping Halo 5’s Forge legitimately live up to all the talk.

Halo 2A forge with more explosives (i LOVE explosives) more scriptable objects, and massive vehicles and canvas (Pelicans, Phantoms), AI would be cool, but probably wont make it in, unless forge for firefight/campaign (which would ROCK!) Sound cues, location labels, water, more terrain manipulation, better building building mechanic. Weather and Time of day would also be cool, but not needed. Texture editing would be awesome (or at least choosing object texture), and large scenery objects / crashed versions of vehicles (massive Ragnarok/ Valhala like towers in scenery, and burning pelicans as Decor). At least some of this will be in it, and i cant wait!

I’m expecting the pieces to look like from the ones in that Breakout map

Keep Concrete Pallete/Skin for the pieces though

I would like there to be a forge item which is just an already completed map. In fact they could just call them maps, and have these pre-set on the disc! And when you go into matchmaking they could be the automatic ones you play! I think I have just revolutionized Halo. Stosh ain’t going to know what hit him!

On top of everything in Halo 2 Anniversary’s Forge mode…

  • Skybox maps from every multiplayer map (including DLC) and Campaign mission- Forge palettes matching the architecture, textures, and style of the corresponding levels- Set pieces like corpses, gondolas, Phantoms, wrecked Phantoms, laptops, signs, Covenant crates, etc.- Generating lighting on a toggle with automatic lighting generation when saving the map- Water blocks with editable dimensions and proper water physics and underwater effects like in Halo 3- More realistic and practical visual effects like night, snow, rain, and fog, as well as sound effects- Light bridges and detailed pieces of architecture from corresponding levels- Decals and particles like bullet holes, scorch marks, smoke, fire (that does does damage), and blood- Placeable waterfalls with and without mist and foam at the bottom, grass pieces, and more trees!- Objects with normal physics actually interact with the environment after being placed- Every single weapon, vehicle, and piece of equipment that is available in the Campaign- Many more versatile terrain pieces and explosives!!- An option to make objects not solid to put them in the background for better performance (and fun minigames)- A group object option to be able to duplicate and move grouped objects (real grav lift rocket ships, anyone?)- Human and Covenant ammo crates with weapons inside as well as ammo packs- More advanced scripting, gametype options (this falls into custom games), and a much higher object countYeah, this list is essentially Far Cry without the bad gameplay, AI placement, terrain editing, or time of day options.

I would really like to see a forge that hap more than just falcons warthogs and mongooses but maybe a pelican and phantom on bigger maps

H2A’s Forge is great but very, very limited. The terrain options get very repetitive, and you can hardly create diverse maps with it. It’ll always be cliffs and sandy ground and some flat grass.

If 343i want to step it up, they’re going to have to allow us to create unique looking maps. That means much more terrain diversity (not just samey ground and cliffs) and different skins for all the objects (for Natural objects: snow, desert, grass, earth etc; for Structures: UNSC, Civillian, Forerunner, wooden, rock, sandstone, Covenant etc.). I also think they should allow time of day settings (sunrise, afternoon, subset, midnight etc.) and maybe some effects (rain/snow storms, sandstorms, thick fog, weak fog etc.).

Or better yet, give us a full map creator!

ETA: just to clarify, around three textures for the terrain/structures would be enough, it’d be unreasonable to expect any more than that (until DLC, that is).

Have to disagree there. I despise the concrete. That’s why we need multiple texture types.

Confident in some amazing maps to be made.

The return of the purple/orange filter, either that, or night/day/sunset variations of certain maps.
Weather filters.
being able to place enemy AIs on the map

More diverse terrain choices
