What do you all actually want?

A good content rich Halo game that actually improves on what we had circa 2007 and has at least the level of content we had circa 2010.

Not wildly shifting core gameplay from loadout shooter to advanced mobility to the dreary compromised half measure that is Halo Infinite.

What exactly are these new things that Halo fans are hating for no reason? People have been doing this “you all just hate anything new!” schtick long before 343 even entered the picture. I have no idea why people seem to have this assumption that because players haven’t taken to 343’s changes to the franchise after all this time, it must be the player’s who are being unreasonable rather than it being the result of the devs mishandling the franchise.

If your decision making and design process is flawed from the outset or otherwise just doesn’t mesh with your target audience it doesn’t matter how many times you change the input because you are almost always going to end up with the “wrong” output.

But sure people are unreasonably upset being given questionable core gameplay and a fraction of the content while the whole game is built around squeezing extra cash out of people on top of the usual full price you have to pay to get the “full” experience.

There are actually times in competitive where playing an Elite is downright unfair, because the head’s hitbox is in a different position than a Spartan’s. Understandably so quite frankly but it really sucks to go up against when you can’t headshot the enemy from every angle, like you can a Spartan.

Match composer. Please. I just want to play games with my friends that aren’t the modes we hate, and I want to stop getting slayer 70% of the time I play quick play matches. I haven’t had an oddball match in MONTHS.

And hopefully by the time ten years rolls around they’ll have added forge and coop…

It’s a lot easier to hit the body though, which means the headshot isn’t really needed since you only get headshot bonus when the shield is down

So let’s see, I’d like:

  • Various bug fixes, desync yada yada
  • At least double the amount of maps for both 4v4 and 12v12
  • An additional 6v6 or 8v8 mode for the maps like Behemoth and Launch Site that don’t quite fit the player count of either arena or btb
  • The return of classic gamemodes/variants such as one flag, assault, infection, grifball, classic btb with set vehicle spawns from the very start, invasion (which would probably need to be partially reworked), PVE stuff like firefight, etc.
  • Forge
  • A robust custom game browser
  • Some classic weapons to return, such as the shotgun, grenade launcher, maybe the fuel rod gun, and maybe some equipment, such as the grav lift. Stuff like the DMR can wait, we don’t need it
  • Some new armor linked to achievement unlocks, especially for campaign achievements
  • Playable elites, I want my dinosaurs damn it. Have it either through Invasion ala Reach, or as a preferred species toggle that gets automatically disabled for competitive.
  • A general increase in vehicle health/resistance to bullets and plasma shots, with explosive and hardlight staying as damaging as they currently are to further emphasize their roles as vehicle killers
  • Controversial but either doubling the amount of shots it takes the shock rifle to emp or removing the ability completely. It’s a little overtuned at the moment
  • The plasma pistol regaining its ability to EMP vehicles with an overcharged shot

You really don’t play comp. Do you know how a 4 shot works? If you did, you’d get why playable sangheili are bad for competitive.

And to preface: I LOVE Sangheili. I want them back. I DEARLY want them back. But not for competitive. Just for social and asymmetrical modes. But let’s begin.

To 4shot, you have to land 3 to the body, then sweep the shot to the head. You don’t aim for the head all four times. It does not take all 12 shots to kill the Spartan either, you will get the kill on the 11th shot if you do it right, 12th is fine too.

But you have to adjust your aim up to the head on shot 4.

You cannot do this from behind with your enemy is Sangheili. But you can do it from any side against a Spartan. Furthermore, the Sangheili head is a bit forward. So based on the angle of the Sangheili opponent, you have to shift your aim in any other direction.

You might say, “That’s just what happens. Get good.”

Sure.

But it is an advantage that basically, you’d be foolish not to take. It is unfair and there’s a reason basically no pro player wants Spartan and Sangheili competitive matches. Spartans are simply easier targets with less variables - and less variables is always better for competitive. Consistency, rather, is what’s the most important thing…

and competitive Sangheili introduce a myriad of variables… and for what? A different playermodel? Twice as many animations, entirely different customization options, VA work, etc. Sangheili need SO MUCH and have to be adjusted very particularly to have a similar hitbox - but NEVER identical - just never works out that way, and for what?

To unbalance the Competitive sandbox?

tl;dr it hurts consistency and is unfair - but playable Sangheili should 100% be allowed in customs, socials, asymmetrical game modes and so on. Just not in competitive.

And it’d be fun if they were default for Stalker Rifle slayer.

I said nothing about adding them to ranked, lol.
You are really fully of yourself

Id would really love to have a Sanghili core really miss invasion one of my favorite game modes

You addressed none of what I said.

Listen, Gus, I’ve earned the right to think highly of myself. If you can’t handle that, that’s your own fault.

Forge, co op campaign, and the rest of the older features that made halo what it is today. Is this your first halo?

My first Halo was Halo 2 in 2004. So, no.

This was an earnest question.

I addressed none of what you said, because I wasn’t asking for them to be in ranked

Thinking highly of yourself and being full of yourself are quite different.
The fact that you don’t know that difference speaks volumes

I suppose I should ask what you want then? I definitely see you active on the forums and youve been playing halo for a very long time so we all should respect your aspect, too. Youre a long time active member of the community. Your input is valid for sure.

I can see that in a competitive sense… but wouldn’t it be easier to force players to play as Spartans in competitive modes then and let social modes have fun with Spartans and Elites?

I know the difference, but quite frankly Gus, given the likes and endorsements you’ve given particular bad faith actors, I’m not really sure I care to waste the time explaining it. Unless you can demonstrate some level of respect for me by not liking posts that address me as a man.

You know what, that’s a really good reply. For what it’s worth, I didn’t really make this thread to participate in it but moreover to let others say what they want. But screw it. I’ll list it all.

Gameplay
Vehicles: I want more vehicular variety and maps to play with them more freely on. I want multi-crew vehicles that are fun and rewarding to play in equal measure. I desire legacy vehicles from every game to return, re-imagined if need be, for they have been missing for far too long. (Spectre, Prowler, Mantis and or Cylops - latter preferable. Pelican, Phantom, Spirit, Condor maybe.) Some Halo Wars 2 Banished vehicles would be lovely to see as well.

Weapons: I actually really have no issue with 80% of the sandbox. I think the AR, Commando, Plasma Pistol and Ravager need adjustments.

AR, I’d increase the damage and the minimum spread, but decrease the rate of fire, magazine size and maximum spread.

Commando, I’d downright remove or more than halve the bloom. Recoil balances it just fine.

We all know what the others need.

Past that, I’d like to see weapons like the Spiker, Brute Shot, Magnum, DMR, and the old Forerunner Light Weapons to return in some fashion or another. I’d like new original Banished weapons as well.

Actual gameplay? No issues aside from a meh radar. I prefer the idea of the first flight’s radar, where you appear only when sprinting and shooting, rather than at all times in a radius. Encourages really tactical play but that’s obviously not for everyone. Otherwise, the desync should be fixed, I’d like universal collision to return and past that… Gameplay’s basically perfectly tuned to feel fantastic.

Customization

Well this is a weird mixed bag.

I hate the armor coating system and wish it would just go away. But I do love the materials that coatings provide. I’d love absolute freedom with it all but understand why we lack it… and it saves me from seeing some truly horrid combinations, at least… But, I still can’t use blue/white in the way that I want and that’s got me frustrated. So, something better would be great.

Not a removal, but a more in depth coating tool. Perhaps we could unlock patterns, materials, or colors and materials combined. Purchase a coating? Boom. That coating’s colors are yours to use. I would really like that and it’d be good business, but it’s a multi-layer system that 343i has hard baked in for them to use instead of us so I get why that would be REALLY HARD to implement, especially for a team as… Well, difficulty-prone as 343i.

Emblems: These just need a complete rework, I hate everything about it. I want full control over my colors, -Yoink!-. Flipside, maybe some emblems don’t need options - don’t really care to see people whitewash Sergeant Johnson, for instance. But otherwise… Yeah. Also, no Halo game needs to ever launch without the prior game’s emblems. They are at LEAST PNGs, PLEASE just let me USE THE VALKYRIE EMBLEM I HAVE USED SINCE 2004, FOR FRAK’S SAKE. GODS. I do not want to purchase it! But I will likely HAVE to, UGH.

Bodies: No gripes here. We’re wearing really thick suits. I don’t expect to see much more than waistline changes. The armor pieces we wear - and what we’ve seen in the TV show - and what we had before Halo Reach, showed a really uniform getup for the Spartans. Hel, the TV show, shows the undersuit differences. They aren’t minimal but they’re smaller than one may think. Even if Silver is a different timeline… Hey, y’know? It’s a good demonstrator since the art direction is basically nigh identical.

Outlines: Eugh, I hate these but understand their existence. Thing is, it’s superfluous. Because you only see those coatings at the end. So… I don’t know. It’s weird and I’m not a fan, but whatever. I just wish there were better choices, since I’m colorblind (Deuteranopia). I use yellow for enemies to highlight really hard, where they are. I can’t process some greens as anything but grey, but it effects my reds too.

AIs: No gripes, but why do we have four greens? Anyway.

Voices: No real gripes. I would like a husky voices feminine voice that sounds like she’s from the southern US though. You know, for representation purposes. Speaking of which…

Representation: Gotta’ say, I’d like some pride flags and coatings. It’d be really lovely to have. Body shape wise, I’d like for more body shape options to exist… But not in ways that disrupt the armor plating. Others here have said they want better representation, but Mjolnir was very androgynous up until reach, which divided the fanbase quite a bit, but made some women in the fanbase feel represented, which is nice. If a middle ground can later be found, that’d be great… But please, not at the expense of people outside the binary or people who’ve switched the 1 to an 0 or vice versa, y’know?

UI/UX

HUD’s perfect, wouldn’t change a thing and people who want classic options are getting those sometime soonish. Very cool! Looking forward to color options!

Basic menus: Functionally fine but seriously need an overhaul going forward. Looks like a futuristic distillation of WIndows 10-11 but doesn’t put function over form… much, uh… much like everything since Windows XP.

Story, Campaign, setting

I like where they’re going. I love the characters, setting, story, I like the return to form, I love how everything is going, flat out. I like the mystery, I like the catch-up, I just really hope it pays off. No actual gripes here worth mentioning

Bascially, I have my wants… But 343i isn’t doing too bad in my eyes, for what I want. I want more playlists or whatever, I want better competitive options and I want more maps but I know those are all coming down the pipe so listing them is frivilous for me tbh.

Thank you for asking, anyway. I actually do appreciate it. Lots of folks maybe rightfully come at me sideways - because I do much the same. But between art, welding school, maintaining a polyamorous relationship, and constantly being the target of pearl clutching legislators everywhere in the united states, on top of dodging the rusty claws of poverty as hard as I can… I don’t usually have the patience to bother with folks who don’t respect me anyway.

So thank you.

It would be, absolutely. I think that would be the best option and it’s what I expect them to do in competitive. But I don’t have faith they’ll do it until people complain like crazy because I guarantee that 343i will try to have their cake and eat it too. They always do.

Except it’s usually a cupcake without icing. Infinite, at least has icing. But could maybe use sprinkles.

EDIT: IDK where I got the huge words from at the beginning of this. My bad.

I bet they will do playable Elites at some point.
It would be a great way to sell Armor by having a few armor cores to modify.

  • Covenant (Halo 3 Style Armor)
  • Banished (Halo Reach / Infinite Style Armor)
  • Heretic (Halo 2 Heretic Elites Style Armor)
  • Arbiter (Self Explanatory)

Follow the money.

If you type a “-” or some selective other symbols below a line of text it will do

343 isnt doing a terrible job. They are continuing to add content which is awesome… i just feel like its too little. So many players have left and its honestly disheartening. I dont even play anymore and ive been playing halo as long as you. I started with halo:ce when it first came out and halo 2 was my first multiplayer halo. It just feels like the launches are getting worse with every new release. Feels bad.

Well for one, they are understaffed again and they have to put more people than usual on bug-fixing and quality assurance updates than content creation; hence why we had Season 1 Extended and only two maps coming in Season Two.

They have to focus on fixing their game before adding content to it enmasse.

Listen, I HOPE they do.

I just don’t… want uh. Them in comp. Just for fairness.

No huge disagreement here… But this game DOES feel amazing to play, we can’t deny that.

Still, I feel ya’. I really do.
