What do we lose when the servers go down?

Despite its many flaws, I do enjoy Halo 5 and its many features. Most of all, I love Halo 5’s Forge mode. It’s one of the best in the entire franchise and gives us loads of stuff to play with and create. However, Forge as well as Custom games and Warzone are online only. So what happens to all of our forge creations and maps when the inevitable server plug is pulled? Will the only thing we can interact with be campaign? If that’s the case, there won’t be much reason for me to keep the game after that. Not only that, but all of the REQs that 343I spent countless hours creating will be wasted and useless. I vaguely remember seeing someone post about Forge on Twitter saying that they would try and see if they could convince 343I to allow offline Forge. Does anyone know what became of that? And before anyone comes to me with the “Halo NEEDS dedicated servers just to run!!!” crap, I’ll refer you to Mr. Gamecheat13 who proved that Custom games and Forge could work offline without any issues. And 343, do not ever give us an online only game again. I fully expect Halo 6 to have fully functional offline features including split-screen, custom games, and forge. If those features aren’t there, I will have no reason to be purchasing Halo 6. Thank you.

If the servers for Halo 5 shut down for good, then there’s no way anyone can access multiplayer.

That won’t happen for a good 10 years +. Halo 3 is still operational. I wish H2 on PC was though so that I could collect the multiplayer achievements.

I wasn’t saying anything about the servers’ lifetime. But at least, the servers are gonna last for quite some time but having the MP only accessible by staying online is wrong. So I hope all upcoming Halo games will local MP.

I know you didn’t however I just included it.

Have to agree with mastergamer. The servers will more likely be online long enough that you won’t even care when they go offline. H3 on Xbox 360 still has servers. So can you really say you will really care about H5 content in say 10 years?

Well, the servers on Halo 3 are more likely to get pulled when the XBL servers for the 360 gets pulled. I’m sure some people are gonna go back to their 360 and play Halo 3 or Reach at the very last minute to say goodbye to those 2 games just like how Halo 2 was treated when the servers for the OG Xbox was about to be shutdown.

To answer your question: Mostly no (unless -yoink- happens to it)

Edit:
I just notice I never mentioned Halo 4 on my comment.

Everything but campaign…?

No Internet? No game for you.

Forge would be so easy…

If anyone cares about Halo 5 in 10 years I’ll genuinely be surprised.

-Yoink- I never though about that. It would be cool if when they eventually turn the servers off they could allow you to use your said features offline. Though I don’t think you have to worry about the servers going offline any time soon. We’re in 2017 with Halo 5 and you can still play Halo 3 online, a 9 year old game that’s on the previous generation xbox which is 12 years old. Then again, Halo 3 was extremely popular and basically made the 360 what it was. Who knows how much 343i will care about H5 a few game entries down the line especially if said future entries are better than H5 in every way (hopefully).

As for split-screen, H6 will in fact have it! Not sure if it’ll be offline or online though…
