What do we know about the writing team?

Or more importantly, do we know anything about the writing/campaign team? I’m just worried that after Halo 5’s travesty of a story, Infinite might follow up with an underwhelming yet not a lore-ruining story. Ever since Halo 5 turned the Halo lore into a joke more than 5 years ago (can’t believe it’s been more than 5 years), it just feels like the EU is the only thing that’s carrying the plot these days and I have low expectations of Halo Infinite’s story because of this.

P.S. I know that Brian Reed left the campaign team some while ago, so at least I don’t have him to worry about.

I know very little about the inner workings of 343, but after all the fan feedback after H5’s dismal story, I’m more hopeful about the direction 343 is taking Infinite. We still have to deal with the Created Uprising and all that entails, but I’m hopeful the writing team is operating with the fan feedback in mind.

Not much is known about the team that are directly writing the story, however, Joseph Staten (former lead writer of previous Bungie Halo games) took up role of project lead last year. Given that the game got delayed a whole year, it could mean revisions to the story to shift more to a narrative that is self-contained and full of mystery like Halo CE.

Paul Crocker is the lead writer.

He is well known for his work on the Arkham games which were well received.

Nice, I really enjoyed the Arkham games, and I’ve been a fan of Staten too obviously. Hopefully they can weave a great story

Brian Reed isn’t involved so that’s all I need to know to assume it won’t be awful. Plus the 2 cutscenes we have so far were nice and slow, grounded, and wholesome. Not worried about the story whatsoever.

Isn’t he an Associate Creative Director now? So I wonder if he got replaced, switched positions, or is working two positions or something? Maybe the narrative is complete and he switched positions because of that? Idk

I don’t know who is all on the team but I do know of two guys that I have confidence in… even though I forget their names. The one is I think the narrative lead? He did a big breakdown of the thought process behind the 2018 announce trailer and it sounds like he knows what he’s doing. The other guy I know of was a writer for the Batman Arkham games which I adore so I’m excited that he’s on Infinite. Sorry again I don’t remember the names but I’m way more confident in Infinite’s story after learning those two are big players in creating the story/narrative.

Don’t you mean Dan Chosich and Paul Crocker? But like I said to Hotshot a few minutes earlier, the latter is now an Associate Creative Director, so I don’t know who’s gonna be filling his boots if at all.

Yep I believe those are the guys. Hasn’t the game essentially been content complete for a good while now? Just polish time. As in no more major changes to the story. Staten even completed the game twice when he was brought on.

Possibly, I guess

Also hopefully the creative juices behind the narrative and style of Halo Wars 2 will have some influence on this game, that story and especially the style and cutscenes were awesome. Even if you don’t like that style of game, at least watch the cutscenes on YouTube, they are phenomenal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7S2LKKU-Eo

It was good, but I did feel like it fell short of my expectations. They spent all this time hyping up atriox and then he barely shows up the rest of the game. Vastly underutilized in my opinion.

If the style and grit carries over into Infinites story, I would be happy though

I agree, I liked HW2 but felt Atriox wasn’t given a lot of screen time. They make up for it somewhat with the comic-book series “Rise of Atriox” and the brief appearances in “Awakening The Nightmare”. We know that Escharum will be involved in Infinite, so that should be interesting for sure. I would definitely like to see the campaign given a stronger focus than the multiplayer, since most players start with the campaign first and eventually play multiplayer.

I feel like halo wars 2 was just a build up for atriox character for halo infinite. Didact was a great character in the books , but many dont read those so he kinda fell flat in the game for those who don’t read the books. Its still not the best , but at least atriox has some build up in a game.
The campaign and mp has its own teams and seeing as mp is ftp then we’re going to be paying full price for a single player game only, so with that in mind i’d of thought sp will be much larger than previous halo games. If it isn’t id be kinda disappointed.

Listen, I hope to God whoever wrote Spartan Ops and H5 does not touch the plot/script of Infinite. However, I do think they did a really good job of world-building and whoever had a hand in those projects should continue on in Halo, but just be repositioned where they could contribute best, ideally in the lore masters departments, creative design, brainstorming sessions etc. It’s not all bad, it’s actually some really good stuff but it’s just unrefined. They should have had someone with some story telling talent scrub it before it went to market. Much like Joseph Staten is doing with Infinite I believe actually.
